The Flight's Greatest Crimes

The eleven Flights, while sharing in some values, differ greatly in others. Each flight glorifies its own version of Perfection - and each has its own sins it considers most heinous. Of course, these aren’t universal, but here is something of a shorthand of what each flight considers the worst sort of trait.

Earth: disloyalty. Earth dragons value consistency; like the very stone they stand on, they are reliable when nothing else is. A disloyal dragon, however, is untrustworthy and can’t be relied on.

Water: rigidity. Water dragons predict the future, but that knowledge is useless if one cannot adjust oneself to meet it. A rigid dragon, one who cannot bend and flex with the ever-changing Now, is unable to make best use of the present or to prepare for the future.

Wind: prejudice. They are travelers who value their wide experience; even those who do not travel will provide hospitality for those who do. An inability to respect and understand differences runs directly against the Wind way, which glorifies differences, as varied as the rainbow.

Fire: cowardice. The Flamecaller’s children are intense and passionate, a trait they pour into their work at the forge and their skills at war. A coward - a dragon who is too afraid to act on their passions - shames themselves.

Ice: carelessness. The Southern Icefield is harsh and unforgiving, as are its inhabitants. A single mistake can cost lives; Ice dragons cannot afford to be careless.

Lightning: laziness. Lightning stands for industry and ambition; it would not exist without hard work and dedication. Nothing can be achieved through indolence; a lazy worker holds both himself and his coworkers back.

Light: deception. Light dragons value Truth above all, and strive to find it in all manners possible. Deliberately hiding or spreading false knowledge is their greatest taboo, as it compromises awareness of the truth.

Shadow: predictability. Morality is somewhat absent in the Tangled Wood, where dragons live on their wits and darkness hides all deeds. They value trickery and sleight-of-hand. Where even life is a game, the opponent’s ability to guess your next move can be deadly; it is best to be fickle and unpredictable.

Plague: self-distruction. The Plaguebringer’s creed is simple: survive, no matter what. Honor and strength is to fight and live, despite all odds. Giving up and harming one’s own life is the ultimate shame; it is admitting defeat. Plague dragons find it utterly disgusting and un-Plague.

Nature: wrath. Nature flight’s value is life itself, and of course they will fight to defend it; if a few lives are lost to preserve many more, well, that is Nature’s way. Deliberate and intentional destruction, however, is despicable, denying what all Nature fights to protect; it renders the loss of life meaningless.

Arcane: ignorance. While most Arcane dragons will admit their ignorance - why else would they constantly seek to know more and more? - it is unthinkable not to try and solve that. Ignorance itself may not be a bad thing, but accepting it without seeking further knowledge is.

A Guide on How to Work with Your Mercy

Hey guys! So I thought this was a pretty obvious thing to understand but apparently it isn’t. So, with the help of @bpd-wrench, we decided to make a list of a) what your Mercy is trying to say when using the dialogue wheel and b) what you can do to help keep your healer alive! Both Wrench and I have a good amount of time on Mercy and have got a lot of healing in, but despite that we still struggle with communication between other members. So, maybe give this a read so next time you play competitive you can know what your Mercy wants!

What She’s Trying to Say:

  • ‘Group up with me!’ This can mean a few things. The first one is, you are pushing too far or you need to back up. If you’re far away from your group and your Mercy uses this communication, you should come back! The second one is if you need healing and are too far away. For example, if you are on the other side of the point but there is too much people around, your Mercy may ask to group up. That means try to get over to her so she can heal you without being killed by the other team! Finally, this may be used when Mercy is being flanked. Wrench and I both have to use this sometimes if we are being flanked by a Tracer or Genji. Hell, sometimes it is even a tank on us! So please, listen and come over so you can save/help her!
  • ‘Acknowledged’ Unfortunately, this one needs to be explained because apparently people don’t get it. If you say you need healing and a Mercy says she knows, it means she can see that you need it. Be patient. She may be respawning and have to get back to you, or she may be healing a squishy or someone with significantly lower health than you. Try to be patient and she will get to you when she can.
  • ‘Need Healing’ Why would a Mercy need healing, you ask? It isn’t too hard to grasp. This will mainly be a competitive only thing. Like most tend to do, Mercy will be targeted so she cannot resurrect or heal anyone. The issue? This leaves you on the point/pushing with no healer whatsoever. If Mercy says she needs healing, its her asking for a second healer. More info in the next section about who you should pair with her!

That pretty much covers what your Mercy is saying using the wheel! The only other thing I can think of, is if she says thanks and she’s dead. Most of the time it’s sarcastic because the team left her to die. Whoops.

What You Can Do to Help:

  • Listen to what she says using the dialogue wheel and follow suit.
  • If you’re playing Zarya, Reinhardt, Torbjorn, or Winston give her armor or a barrier/shield. You want to help her live longer so she can keep you alive. By prioritizing her with these things, you will have a grateful and safer Mercy!
  • If she wants a second healer (see ‘Need Healing’ to understand how she’ll show this) pick one! Personally my favorites to work with are Zenyatta or Lucio. Zenyatta may be best for attacking because he does more damage and can heal at his leisure, and Lucio can be best when it comes to defending because he can speed boost everyone back. That is just my opinion though! Ana can work just as well on attack, just make sure you give the right person your ult!
  • Check in on her every so often. If you see a tank on her and she is trying to get away, attack that tank! Even if she does get away, she can still be targeted. If you save a Mercy, she’ll go out of her way to save you.
  • If you’re playing Pharah, or Winston and you see your Mercy is getting really low on health/being flanked like crazy, go up in the air above her. Let her take to the skies, because it may as well just save her life.
  • See a Mercy falling in a hole? Maybe Pharah, Lucio, or D.va booped her off. Go to the side so she can fly up to you! It will make your Mercy cry tears of joy and she’ll make sure to prioritize you when it comes to healing if you do save her.
  • I have to reiterate this because after speaking to multiple Mercy mains, this is the biggest issue: watch for flankers. Especially in competitive. People want to ult, but you know what they want even more? For your Mercy to not ult and bring you all back right after the other team uses their ult(s). So, they do the logical thing and target the Mercy. Please watch out for her! So many offense characters and tanks like to bully Mercy, so keep an eye out for her. Even though she has a gun that can take down a squishy if she’s good enough, the extra help is always appreciated.
  • If you’re playing a tank or defense character try to stay near your healer and protect them- especially on defending because once your Mercy is gone, the other team can push through easily if you don’t have another healer!
  • Finally, thank your healer! I can’t say this enough. You don’t have to say thank you after every time you get healed, but it’s nice to say it if she saves your ass from a particularly situation or when she resurrects you!

These aren’t the best tips, but they come from my own experiences as well as from what my friends and other Mercy mains I know have said. Try to keep these points in mind and look out for your healer! The last thing you want is for your (possibly) only healer to switch off out of frustration because they aren’t getting any help!

noorhelm appreciation week day onewhy you love them
Do you understand? It’s just because my heart is jumping out of my chest. No, but I can’t breathe. It feels as if I’m going to die.

Want to know what really pisses me off?

Sherlock’s “I love you”–the first time that this character, as far as I’m aware, has said these words–was to Molly. I know that there are plenty of people out there who will disagree with me (which is absolutely fine and completely your right), but those words belonged to John Watson and John alone. The nature of John and Sherlock’s relationship is what’s been debated for over a century. John and Sherlock’s relationship is the one that’s been coded since the unaired pilot seven years ago. John and Sherlock’s relationship is the thing that’s made this show what it is.

I like Molly’s character. I understand why they kept her around, despite her not being ACD canon. But for her to be the person to whom the “I love you” was directed was cruel, not only because it was a lie that reduced her to a one-dimensional pining ingénue whose sole purpose in the story was to serve (yet again) as Sherlock’s unrequited love, but because the show’s romantic arc has always, always been about him and John.

Those words belonged to John. The trailer’s editing very purposefully led us to believe that he was talking to John. The BBC’s teasing heavily implied their love story come to fruition. This was queerbaiting like I’ve never seen before.

We’ve been waiting for that “I love you” since 1887; to dangle that in front of us only to rip it away at the last minute was sadistic on a whole new level. They didn’t need to include that scene; they didn’t need to make Sherlock say “I love you.” They could have easily left that out of the script. But instead they took those sacred words, and they stole them, from both John and from us.

Even if this episode turns out to be a fake, even if they do end up canonizing Johnlock, these words have been tainted, and that’s something that they will never be able to fully undo.

Everyone involved–Sherlock, John, Molly, and the fandom (Johnlock and Sherlolly shippers alike)–deserved better than this. I just don’t understand how they could be this deliberately cruel.

while i’m at it, something else i’ve noticed in moffat’s writing is this constant need to up the stakes, to make every threat bigger and better and scarier than the one before. it’s happened in doctor who - at least, up until the point where i stopped watching - and we just saw it happen in sherlock. there comes a point where having a “villain of the week” is no longer enough: you need to introduce something that’s a) impossible to anticipate (usually because it’s so completely off the wall that you can’t even understand what’s happening, let alone predict it) and b) changes the dynamic of the show completely. it’s like he has this constant fear of being boring, and to avoid that he keeps boosting the threat level until it just becomes totally improbable.

moriarty was the endgame of series one: fair enough. sherlock’s “death” was the endgame of season two, taking it one step further, but was still believable and interesting. season three was weak primarily because it didn’t have a main villain (unless you count mary, which i don’t), but pulled itself up at the last minute with a big twist: moriarty is back! it worked the first time, so we’ll take it a step further and make him even more terrifying by giving him the power to literally defy death. and then they couldn’t follow through on that, so in season four, they basically panicked and went “THE ANTAGONIST IS SHERLOCK EXCEPT SHE’S EVEN SMARTER THAN HIM AND SHE CAN CONTROL PEOPLE WITH HER MIND AND SHE’S A CHILD MURDERER AND AN INSANE PSYCHOPATH AND THE MOST POWERFUL TERRIFYING PERSON IN THE ENTIRE UNIVERSE!!11″ and the holes inherent in that theory, and the hoops they had to jump through to pull it off, just made the whole thing collapse.

it’s similar to what we saw happening in the later stages of doctor who. the old “classic who” format of having a monster each week that had to be defeated, along with a series-wide arc, was solid and reliable - but as the show gained traction, they tried to turn it into a blockbuster. it had to be more exciting and more dangerous and on a progressively huger scale, until every episode was some kind of threat to the world as we know it, except the tension isn’t really there, because it’s all a foregone conclusion. we knew they wouldn’t really kill off john watson; we knew the universe wasn’t really going to be torn inside out. we already know the ending, so all the fireworks involved kind of lose their spark. this isn’t by any means unique to moffat - a lot of shows fall into it, when they’re dragged out for too long. supernatural went from fighting monsters to fighting the devil to fighting a being even more powerful than the devil until it all just fell to pieces.

because here’s the thing: raising the stakes doesn’t necessarily make everything better, not if it’s all that the show is capable of doing. it just turns it into a one-note drama full of explosions and forced dramatic tension where everything matters so much that in the end, nothing really matters at all.

hello everyone!! as some of you may have noticed, this blog has been running pretty slow lately.

the truth is that while we both very much love this blog and love running it, the two of us are going through some hard times in our lives, and its very mentally draining on the both of us. we just dont have the energy to be constantly posting things on to here. we’re still trying our best to reblog some stuff every once in a while, but i hope you can all understand why we’ve been quiet lately!

also we’re both lazy as fuck but idk maybe thats the depression talking lmao

Okay, so I'm rewatching Season 1 and getting annoyed with Alec. I know that Clary came out of nowhere, and at the same time as Valentine coming back looking for the cup. I understand that he's wary of her, and doesn't trust her. But am I the only one disappointed with his treatment of her? He's a real jerk to her, and it doesn't look like that's going to change in Season 2... You have any thoughts as to why he's like this? Other than jealousy of her relationship with Jace?

Honestly, I know this is a bit harsh of me, but I’ve never particularly minded Alec’s treatment of Clary???

Don’t get me wrong, he does some bad shit in season one. He messes up. But I think his big fuck ups are more policy-related, particularly all that shit when they’re dealing with Meliorn. In general, I don’t mind his behavior to Clary. Yes, he’s a jerk. That’s undeniable. But also… that’s it??? He doesn’t like her. He shouldn’t be as mean as he is, but I don’t think there’s any reason why he has to like her, either.

And I think very little of his behavior actually has to do with Jace. While I certainly don’t think he’s thrilled that Jace is interested in her, I don’t think his attitude toward her is motivated by that jealousy. I don’t think he’s jealous that Jace likes her, I think he’s genuinely upset that his brother and his parabatai is trusting her over him. Jace could have no romantic interest in Clary whatsoever and I think Alec would still treat her the exact same way. Because Alec is in charge, and Alec is trusted enough to be the leader, and Alec is used to his siblings trusting him, and listening to him when he makes important decisions. And then Clary comes along and suddenly Jace and Isabelle are going along with her decisions instead of his, even though they’re frequently reckless and dangerous. I think Alec is equally devastated and angry that Valentine’s daughter - someone they’ve known for days - is being given more trust than he is. I think he’s angry, and I think his anger is justified.

That being said, he doesn’t need to be so mean to her. But at the end of season one, he’s not mean anymore. In 1x12 they have a perfectly civil conversation where they thank each other and everything is great. Alec eventually starts being mean to her again in season two, but honestly, Alec is going through such an unbelievably shitty time that lashing out in some way seems completely inevitable.

Like I said, I don’t think he should be so rude to Clary. But I also don’t think he needs to like Clary. Ever. He can accept her as part of his social group, and as Jace’s sister (or whatever she is at the time lbr), and as someone he sees on a daily basis, and still not like her. You don’t need to like everyone you know. I think as viewers we get used to the idea of the ‘main gang’ of characters in a story, and we’re used to them all being friends. But I don’t think that’s actually necessary. Everyone has people in their life that they dislike. As long as they can keep their attitude in check, it’s not a big deal. I personally wouldn’t mind if Alec never liked Clary, so long as he starts treating her a little better.

Do you suppose the showrunners fully appreciate how the fandom feels about Susan Vasquez?

i mean look at her.  why wouldn’t you want her on your team, whether she’s watching your back in a firefight, helping you pick up chicks, or banging your face off?  do they understand how much we love her?  how important she is??  the fandom took one look at her and was like “yummy butch latina you are very important to us” and while this fandom has its share of fuckery like any other, the way it treats Susan Vasquez is one thing it gets very right.

More Susan Vasquez 2017!

I don’t understand why is everyone hating on The Final Problem.

The episode was absolutely brilliant. We got to see Eurus play with Sherlock’s head by making him be in control of his logical side while being completely overwhelmed by his emotional one, which has always been one of his biggest challenges. The plot twists were exactly on point, and Eurus cruelty and psychopathy went beyond my expectations, especially in regards to the truth about Redbeard. She made Moriaty and Magnussen look like saints. The episode played with our emotions at every turn, as much as Eurus did with Sherlock’s, John’s and Mycroft’s.

And the thing is, if you claim you hated the episode, it’s either because 1) you didn’t pay enough attention, or 2) you’re just bitter Johnlock didn’t become canon. The episode wasn’t perfect, there were a few plotholes, but nothing major, that could undermine any of the key points necessary to the understanding of Eurus’ game or the unravelling of the episode.

And I get it. Queerbaiting is a bitch, and people have the right to be frustated about Johnlock not becoming canon. But consider this: Moffat and Gatiss have stated several times over the past few years, that it would never happen, that the ship would never become canon. So if you deluded yourselves into thinking that there was hope, when the creators of the show stated otherwise countless times, you have only yourselves to blame for being angry.

Here’s an idea..

How about you keep your Tamlin hate OUT of the Tamlin tag? It’s sickening to see posts like “The only redemption is him dying.” The fact that you people are writing things like this is disgusting. Some people have even been sending deaths threats to Maas saying that she better kill him or worse in the third book.

Him dying would NOT be redemption so just STOP.

You all NEVER would have said this stuff while reading the first book but now that Rhysand went and got your panties wet in the second one you all do a complete one-eighty and want nothing more than for him to die. Really? Do you not get that he’s struggling because of what happened Under the Mountain? Do you not understand that what went down under there seriously screwed with his head? Oh, and news flash, not everyone deals with recovery the same way and he is clearly having a hard time with it.

You want to hate him? That’s fine, but do it in a different tag. You all love calling him a tool so much how about you stick to your “Tam the tool” or “Tamlin the tool” tag? I’m tired of seeing your hate flood a tag that I am trying to enjoy, it’s upsetting and it’s bringing me to the point that I can’t enjoy the series anymore because of the way that this fandom is acting.

The Unknown - Part Two

Wow.  Ok, so thank you to everyone who left lovely comments, reblogged, and liked Part One.  It means so, so much to me.

Also, I was rereading Part One and realized there were a couple of mistakes.  Sorry about that.  I tried to catch all of them in this part, but who knows, right?

“im dying squirtle” lmao if Tumblr Gold was a thing, you deserve it for that one.

Yeah, right after shoplifters, fiction-kin is my next most disliked group on Tumblr. I totally understand that one could spiritually relate to animals, kind of like having “the soul of a wolf” or “I was a wolf in a past life” or something like that (though not “I have a phantom tail” sort of thing). But fictionkin by definition are based on something that doesn’t exist! SMH, why do people think that is in any way valid?

Taylor.

Honestly, i don’t even know how to start this. Absolutely no one understands. I’ve walked around for the last month and a half feeling extremely lost and sad because i thought i wasn’t going to be able to see you in my own hometown in February. I tried contacting Taylornation on twitter, i tried getting your attention here and nothing worked, but i won tickets at one of your AT&T events. I was the 13th winner. TAYLOR, I WAS THE 13TH WINNER. You can’t even say that its a coincidence. I suddenly feel happy again. 2016 was tragic for me, completely and utterly tragic. My dad got really sick, i didn’t graduate on time, and slowly i started feeling really void inside. The only upside to 2016 was when i saw you in Austin, 4 days before F1 i decided to drop everything and just leave. I drove 5 hours to see you and it felt like freedom. No one understands. No one understands what it’s like to be at one of your shows. No one understands how free and young and happy you suddenly feel for two hours. No one understands how much it means to share the same room with you, and thousands of others who love you as i love you. No one understands what its like to turn to the person next to you and suddenly see their pain and worries fade away the second you come on stage. Seeing you is like seeing that best friend that moved away to follow their dreams with their wings spread wide open every blue moon. Seeing you is that feeling in your stomach that feels familiar and warm. Seeing you is being hit with waves of love for two whole hours when nothing else matters. Sharing the room with you is knowing that your life is going back to normal when its over, but in that moment you feel fearless anyways. They don’t understand that i don’t have to physically know you, to love you. I know your heart, i know your intentions and i know theres a small possibility that you love me as i love you.

I’m seeing you in my hometown on February 4th, and i’m counting down the seconds until we share the same space again.

I love you, i love you, i love you.

PS: LOOK AT OUR FIRST SELFIE TOGETHER. (OKAY YOU’RE JUST ON MY BLANKET DETAILS DETAILS)

Go with The West Records. It’s the easiest to understand and the absolute closest in quality to television/movie work.
