May I request a with Kris? You've been dating a few years and buy him a couple ring. He gets annoyed and you have an argument. Make it a happy ending. Love you Xxx
You gently held the tiny box as you made your way back home. You had spent weeks freaking out over what to get Kris for your anniversary. His gifts were always so heartfelt and meaningful. For your last anniversary, you got him a card from the drugstore down the street and bought him a plushie. Honestly, you felt as if your roles were switched when it came to anniversaries. Wasn’t the girl supposed to give good gifts and the guy supposed to give really crappy ones?
It’s not like you didn’t love Kris or forgot your anniversaries. It’s just that you were never good at giving gifts. Honestly, you didn’t expect or want that much so you figured Kris wouldn’t make that big of a deal either, but he always outdid you every year.
And with every passing you felt like crap.
This year, however, would be different. You had been saving up for this gift for a few weeks and were so excited to show it to him. You had stumbled upon these couple rings when you passed a jewelry shop and curiosity got the best of you. You were just browsing initially, but when you saw the rings you instantly fell in love.
You and Kris were never really into couple clothing or items but after four years, you figured why not? It was a public display of your love for each other and a symbol of your relationship.
You quickened your pace a little bit so that you would hopefully beat Kris home, but when you opened the door and saw the table set for dinner and few candles lit, you knew that he had already been there for a while. Normally, this would make your stomach turn in guilt but not this year. This year, you were giving him something that had meaning and that you had put thought and effort into.
And the poor guy wasn’t even expecting it.
You were just hanging up your coat when Kris walked in, dressed up in a suit and carrying flowers.
“What’s the occasion?” You asked him as you gave him a hug.
“Happy anniversary, Baobei.” He handed you the flowers as you leaned up to peck his lips.
“Thank you so much. They’re beautiful.” You looked him up and down and then realized your casual attire. “I can’t help but feel under dressed.”
He took the flowers from you and put them in a vase that was waiting on the table.
“Well, go and change and then we’ll have dinner, okay?”
You ran off to the bedroom to find a beautiful evening gown laid out on the bed with matching shoes and accessories. You couldn’t help but stand there with your mouth hanging open as you marveled at the extravagant fabric.
You put everything on and quickly fixed your hair. You heard the front door open and slowly made your way to the dining room. You couldn’t help but gasp when you found a man playing the violin as Kris sat at the table and waited for you.
“You really pulled out all the stops, didn’t you?” Kris stood up and pulled out your chair.
“You look beautiful. And yes, I did. But only because I wanted this year to be special.” You sat in the chair as Kris pushed you into the table and sat down across from you.
“I also have something special for you.” You put the ring box on the table and slid it over to him. “Happy anniversary.”
You watched his face as he took the box and opened it.
You were confused when his face scrunched up and he looked up at you.
“Why did you get this?” Well that wasn’t the reaction you were expecting.
“Well, your gifts are always so heartfelt and mine are just generic and boring. This year, I wanted to actually get something special. This way, we always have something that reminds us of each other.” You held up your hand to show him the ring that was already on you finger.
“How much did these cost you?” Now you felt as if you were being interrogated.
“That’s kind of rude to ask about a gift.”
“You know that I don’t like you spending all your money on these kinds of things!” He was starting to raise his voice, which you didn’t appreciate. You could tell things were getting heated because the violinist had stopped playing and made his way out of the room
“Yes, but I wanted to Yifan! I don’t see why you’re getting so upset! I thought you would be happy.”
"How can I be happy when my girlfriend is going out and wasting her money on little things like couple rings?”
You stood up and slammed your hands on the table.
“It’s not stupid, Kris! It is a physical, outward symbol of our dedication to each other! Something you talk about all the time. You say how I’m your one and only and there isn’t anyone else in the world that you would rather be with. Well, now I can see that these ‘stupid’ things don’t matter to you!”
“NO!” You had had it. You actually put your heart into something and it ends up to bite you in the butt. “Don’t baobei me!” You took off the ring you were wearing and stormed out of the room.
"Where are you going?”
“I’m taking all this crap off and then I’m going out for a drink.” You pulled all the jewelry off threw it onto the bed. You were about to take the dress off when you felt Kris’s hand on your wrist.
He turned you around to face him. You could tell he was hurt. Part of you felt guilty but the rest didn’t care.
How dare he put down something that I had put so much thought and effort into? Who does he think he is? He’s allowed to do nice things for me, but as soon as I do something for him it’s not okay?
“I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to get so upset back there. It’s just…” He turned away and you could see the tears forming in the corners of his eyes.
Oh god, what did I do?
You reached up to touch his face. He normally wasn’t so vulnerable in front of you. Especially after a fight.
“I didn’t want you to go out and buy those rings because…” he pulled out a tiny, velvet box from his suit jacket.
Oh my God…
“I had already went out and bought you a ring.”
This isn’t what I think it is…
Your suspicions were confirmed when he got down on one knee and the violinist ran in and started to play.
”_______, I know I can be a little emotional at times and say some really stupid things. Like just then. But, I would never think that our love and dedication to each other is stupid. I know that you’re probably really angry with me right now, but I can’t live another second without you as my wife. So, _______, will you marry me?”
You felt warm tears stream down your face and you sat on your knees in front of him.
“God, I’m so stupid. I’m so sorry.” You rested your head on his shoulder as he held you.
“Does that mean…”
“Yes, of course I will marry you.” You felt his lips crash into yours you stayed like that for a while. You had to breath so you pulled away and rested your forehead on his.
“I love you so much.”
