Understanding Elizabeth Midford

So. I don’t usually involve myself in petty fandom feuds but HOLY. SHIT. This is pissing me off. We’ve gone through 100+ chapters and people STILL don’t understand Lizzy’s character? They manage to rationalize Kuroshitsuji enough that they give Sebastian feelings even though he’s a hungry demon who made a pact with a 10 year old boy because he sensed his soul was broken, desperate, and malleable to more further corruption. They manage to do all this for a DEMON but can’t find it in their hearts to apply that analytical mindset to a darling 14 year old girl whose human emotions drive her every decision?

“She’s selfish! She only wants to make Ciel smile so things can go back to the way they were!”

“She doesn’t understand him! She’s always trying to change him, that bitch!”

“She’s so ANNOYING. Like, her voice!”

“Oh my god, did you see her standing there in the third panel? Like who does that! RUDE.”

So in an attempt to bring some basic level of cognition into these…“arguments” I’m going to go through them one by one and you can disagree if you like. But please refrain from using derogatory terms, unsubstantiated arguments, and referrals to “proofs” that are nothing more than blog posts made from those who wish to paint Kuroshitsuji in terms more favorable to them and whatever else they ship.

1. “She’s selfish! She only wants to make Ciel smile so things can go back to the way they were!”

Elizabeth Midford is, by far, the LEAST selfish person in the whole damn manga. This girl spent most of her childhood loathing the physical strength she possessed because the person she loved didn’t like it. She chose to shoulder her anguish by HERSELF because she didn’t want to burden Ciel (or her brother or her mother or her father) with her personal worries.

Lizzy is also incredibly aware that things can NEVER go back to the way they were. She expresses this concern to Sebastian when she admits that she wishes Ciel would talk to her more and that the only reason she overdoes her cuteness is because she wants to see Ciel smile. Why are comedians so outlandish and over-the-top? Because they want to see their audience laugh. Lizzy took that mindset and applied it to her goal of cheering Ciel up. Furthermore, the Easter egg chapter proved ONCE AND FOR ALL that Lizzy is perfectly aware of the change that’s occurred within Ciel—that he’s no longer the happy, smiling boy of years past.

Lizzy KNEW Ciel didn’t remember why the egg was nostalgic and if she was really selfish, she would’ve thrown a fit—had a full on temper tantrum then and there but instead, what does she do? She outwits the game master himself. Lizzy sets up an Easter egg hunt that she made up completely off the cuff, wears a happy smile throughout the entire event, and when Ciel hands her the egg what does Lizzy do? She laughs and wishes that the egg would bring CIEL lots of happiness. HOW IS SHE SELFISH? HOW. Selfish would be throwing a tantrum because Ciel didn’t remember the way things used to be. Selfish would be bringing up the past EVERY FRIGGIN SECOND. Selfish would be forcing Ciel to comply to the shared etiquette of their past.

Instead, Lizzy is SELFLESS. Instead of throwing a tantrum, Lizzy wishes Ciel happiness. Instead of bringing up the past, Lizzy tries to ignore it because she knows it makes Ciel uncomfortable—that’s why she’s never asked him about “that month” even though she desperately wants to know what’s happened to the boy she loves. And instead of forcing Ciel to behave the way he used to (sweet, sympathetic, loving), Lizzy is learning to accept him for who he is now—how many times has Ciel ignored her? How many times has Ciel left the country without telling her? How many times has Ciel purposely hidden things from Lizzy and then disregarded her concern with a wave of his hand? Lizzy is learning to accept this new Ciel—this closed off, distant Ciel because she KNOWS something terrible must have happened to him. Because instead of crying and whining like she did at the beginning of Black Butler when Ciel refused to take off his ring, Lizzy has learned to ACCEPT. And that, my dears, is called character development—something Ciel hasn’t undergone since the beginning of this manga.

2. “She doesn’t understand him! She’s always trying to change him, that bitch!”

There is NOTHING about Ciel that Lizzy is trying to change. If anything, it’s Sebastian who’s always prodding and provoking Ciel to become darker—more cruel, less empathetic, and more focused on getting his revenge. She threw a party for Ciel at the beginning of the manga because she thought that might make him smile—fun colors, fine music, seeing Bard and Finny crossdressing…heck, even Ciel took a page from Lizzy’s book when he dressed the F5! It probably took Lizzy HOURS to choose Ciel’s outfit, decorate the mansion, coordinate the whole event and it probably hurt like hell to see Ciel dismiss all her hard work so casually.

As a reader, it’s easy for us to say “HELLO. Doesn’t she know? He was abused and tortured by the cultists! He made a deal with the devil to escape that wretched place, how could this dumb broad think a simple party would cheer him up?!”

And the answer is…Lizzy has NO IDEA what happened to Ciel. (Hindsight is a gift, ain’t it?) She has no idea that he became so desperate to escape the cult that he sold his soul to a starving demon. Lizzy is does not know what Ciel went through and this boy is doing his damnedest to make sure Lizzy never knows. Because he wants to keep her pure, ignorant, and encased in light.

People always point to the party chapter as Lizzy trying to “change” Ciel but all she wanted was to put a smile on his face. She even admits that she overdoes it at times but everything she’s done comes from a good place. Everyone wants to see their loved ones happy and Ciel is the boy Lizzy loves best of all—of course she’s going to try everything under the sun to try and put a little smile on his face.

And Lizzy DOES understand Ciel, to the best of her ability. She’s never once asked Ciel (or Sebastian) about his time in the cult. She uses games to figure out Ciel’s secrets. (Ex: Easter egg hunt—this is where Lizzy knew Ciel was only pretending to remember their Easter tradition and where Lizzy’s suspicions were confirmed—something life changing and drastic DID happen to Ciel during “that month.”) She doesn’t force Ciel to take her to public events because, let’s face it—as the only daughter to a high ranking marquess that serves directly under the queen, Lizzy’s bound to be invited to dozens of soirees a week. And as a gentlewoman of the aristocracy, Lizzy’s going to need an escort. In Victorian times, it was typical that the fiancé escort his bride-to-be but here is Lizzy—sweet, traditional Lizzy—ignoring precedent because she KNOWS Ciel dislikes social events. (Keep in mind, this is information being pieced together by a 14 year old girl who’s been taught to be an “unknowing angel.”)

Elizabeth understands the change that’s come over Ciel, knows that he won’t be interested in the same things he was interested in before. But in spite of Ciel shutting her out, in spite of Sebastian’s constant presence, Lizzy is still working her hardest to try and bring some happiness to Ciel’s life because she loves him. She loves him so much that Bravat was able to take Lizzy’s desperation and devotion and use it against her.

Let’s not forget—the reason Lizzy continued seeing Bravat was because she thought he could help her make Ciel happy.

3. “She’s so ANNOYING. Like, her voice!”

I think this is the most common excuse people use to not like Lizzy. They critique her high levels of energy (even though Finny and Soma are equally vivacious), her love for beautiful things (even though Ciel is probably the vainest little boy in the whole of London, England), and the fact that she “doesn’t understand” Ciel (counterargument already presented above).

You know, in a lot of ways I see Lizzy as a Scarlett O’Hara figure—strong, determined, unflinching in the face of danger. But also very, very misunderstood. Lizzy only behaves with an exorbitant amount of energy because she wants to make Ciel happy —to bring some sunlight into his gloomy, pessimistic world. The end results are not always successful but the intention behind Lizzy’s every action is pure—as pure as Soma’s decision to help Ciel simply because he saw him as a friend. Lizzy puts on a vaudeville for Ciel in a misguided attempt to help him heal and move on from whatever is tormenting him.

4. “Oh my god, did you see her standing there in the third panel? Like who doesn’t that! RUDE.”

Black Butler is told from the perspectives of Ciel and Sebastian. We only get brief glimpses into Lizzy’s psyche so it’s impossible for us to codify her completely. What I do know is that some people out there will always hate on Lizzy—whether it’s because they dislike her voice (well that’s her VA’s fault, not Lizzy’s) or because Lizzy “gets in the way” of someone’s ship. I’m not here to reason with those who refuse to be reasoned with. This is me expressing my adoration for a flawed, misguided, but pure of heart character whose unconditional love for a changed, callous boy makes me admire her all the more.

Oddly enough, people seem to relate “understanding” a person to “knowing exactly what happened to them to make them this way.” And to me, this is really giving Lizzy an unfair shake. By this definition, Lizzy could never understand Ciel because she doesn’t know what happened to him in that one month that’s made him the way he is (reason: he flat out didn’t tell her and uses every opportunity to prevent her from finding out. Ciel is so concerned about protecting Elizabeth’s goodness/light/purity that on the Campania, when Sebastian was slaughtering all those Bizarre Dolls, Ciel shielded Lizzy from seeing the carnage because he wants her to remain innocent and unaware). To quote Albert Einstein, “Any fool can know. The point is to understand.

I think Lizzy understands Ciel—she can sense the pain, the resignation, the drive towards something greater that Ciel is working towards. This is best exemplified in an early chapter (after Ciel’s fallen asleep and Sebastian is serving her tea) where Lizzy expresses sorrow that Ciel won’t tell her anything. Sebastian comforts Lizzy by telling her that while “It’s a difficult question for me as a butler…[I can tell you] one thing…He [Ciel] was able to spend a nice, free day with everyone.” To which Lizzy retorts that she wishes she could believe that. Elizabeth may not know what happened to Ciel during that month, but she understands.

This then brings me to my next and final point—people wanting Lizzy to “accept” the situation by stepping aside and leaving the manga. Well, to quote Michael J. Fox: “Acceptance doesn’t mean resignation; it means understanding that something is what it is and that there’s got to be a way through it.” — And this is exactly what Lizzy’s doing. She’s fighting for a way to help Ciel, to help him move on, to do anything that might benefit it. Lizzy’s accepted the situation but she’s certainly not resigned for it—Lizzy’s a fighter, and she’ll continue fighting for the boy she loves until the very end.

Further discussion is encouraged. But, please remember: refrain from using derogatory terms, unsubstantiated arguments, and referrals to “proofs” that are nothing more than blog posts made from those who wish to paint Kuroshitsuji in terms more favorable to them and whatever else they ship. I am not disparaging other characters or ships—I merely ask that you don’t refer to those “did you know” blog posts that’s caused so much strife in the Black Butler fandom. Thank you.

A/N: This was mostly written as a personal / cathartic piece. I considered keeping this private, but then I realized someone else out there might need this as badly as I did. This is by far the most emotionally taxing piece I have ever written. The content is heavy and I cried while writing it, so be careful if you choose to read on. Please do not read if you are triggered by self-hate, (self) body-shaming, or similar themes. I would hate to upset anyone else…if you ever need to talk, I’m here.

A turning point or Azanina talks [3]

Last episode let us enjoy a beautiful dance scene; the “date” with Charioce was nice too. Nevertheless, another scene catches my eyes. The scene that shows some Azazel’s development and get a food for thought about future Azanina relationship. However, let’s I try to speak one at a time.

Nina suddenly remembered about her crush on a mysterious “arabic” guy (who didn’t even bother her thoughts in episode 5) and got a motivation to buy some food. According Hamsa, she still keeps his ring. Rita mentioned Nina’s blushing from Azazel. Yeah, Azazel again. It’s already the second time as she confirmed our triangle. “The heart is a fickle thing”, — Hamsa said with the creepiest quack I ever heard. This sentence is very predictive and clearly implies the future love drama.

It’s time to give some respect to Azazel. Explaining demons his so-called plan he still said nothing about the red dragon’s personality. Even as Dante tried to figure out some details (pls don’t kill him in the next episode, I like his reasonableness), Azazel decided to keep the secret. Because of his pride though (“who do you think you’re talking to?” — omg, nope, Aza-nii, you forget about your bad luck), but he didn’t break his promise to Nina.

The key scene ofc was in the darkness. Nina made her revenge (we all remember the first episode) running into Azazel. It seems like in this case it was more painful. However, Azazel got used to troubles that happen with him when Nina is around and wasn’t mad at all. Kind-hearted girl worried about Mugaro’s loneliness, but Azazel is here only to give her some instructions.

I want to compare his behavior with second episode. Before Azazel was sure that yelling and shaking are the best way to explain something. He was very impatient, his gaze was supercilious. He roughly touched a girl breaking her personal space. Nina was just a tool for him, that don’t have or better to say shouldn’t have own will or wishes.

Look at this new Azazel. Yeah, he still can’t say such a common things like “please”. His words still sound like orders. His voice was calm though, he didn’t make abrupt movements. Azazel touched Nina again, her face, but this touch looks gentle enough. He understand that she is his trump card, but don’t depend on him. “Promise me that you’ll be there” — do you ask a tool for promise? His face said a lot too. No scorn, the gaze was serious; this “please” was here.

Because of new crush Nina don’t blush from him anymore. No one from them noticed it. Nina was a little offended because of Azazel’s attitude. She finally started notice that his plans can be bad. A good step too, cause Azazel’s appearance often obstructs her to see his personality.

The next episode might be a catastrophe. A little misunderstanding was always a part of Azanina relationship. Now it’s time for them to run into truth. Will Azazel have a chance to turn Nina into a dragon again? The fact that he don’t make her doki-doki anymore can’t stop him from his rebellion. It could be a conflict between them. Nina will see his dark side too.

However, don’t lose your hopes. I’m sure that Azazel’s falling will be the beginning of his redemption arc. Nina will see the dark side of “Chris” too. It’s a good question why she will be a prisoner with Jeanne. The eighth episode spoilers even show us Azazel’s torture. The suffering touches both. Will they find their happiness? Will see~

I will try to do it this weekend since today i’m a bit busy but I will write this one for you as a thanks for being so sweet to me and as a promise to reply to the others ^^

have a great day pup <3

//Jimin found about jungkook’s radio program one night after a really long day at work. he usually put on his earbuds and blasted loudly his favorite artists but that night his ipod had run out of battery and he didn’t have any music stored on his phone so his only option was to tune in the radio. and oh boy does he not regret it at all.

//jungkook has  melodic voice, sweet and that exudes warmth but at the same time is deep and boyish, really charismatic. no wonder he works at a radio station.

//the program varies from listening to jungkook’s song recommendations to reading letters from fans asking for advice. the host can go from a total dork that tells the most ridiculous jokes to a sweet caring boy trying to help a lost soul.

//jimin finds himself listening to his show every single night from then on. he has the show tuned in while his night shift at the convenience store, which always helps him overcome the night with a better attitude.

//taehyung laughs at him, says he’s obsessed. Jimin likes to say he just knows how to appreciate the good things in life.

//Jungkook opens about himself sometimes, and jimin learns he’s a young man -but slightly older than him- that has struggled his own in life as many others and uses his experiences to give advice to his listeners. Jimin loves to hear those stories, feels like jungkook is opening up to him only and not to hundreds of anonymous people that listen to him as well.

//he’s tempted to call, talk directly with jungkook those nights the phones are opened to the spectators, but he knows he’s shy and would stumble with his words a lot. also, what is he supposed to say to jungkook? “oh hey i’m jimin, big fan of yours. i love your voice and i love you too, marry me?” nah, too creepy….

//so he simply sends letters to jungkook for the other to read. he usually shares his own struggles, tells jungkook how difficult is being for him to manage the student life, living on his own and have his family so far away. jungkook is always sweet, reassuring, tells JM to keep fighting for his dreams like he did some years prior, shares his own story so he can give jimin the will to keep going. jungkook tells JM they have a lot in common taking in consideration his letters, and jimin likes to think jungkook’s voice softens a bit while talking to him after reading his letters, and his heart stutters happily every time jungkook dedicates him a new song he’s found recently.

//it’s a sunday that finds jimin working a morning shift. he hates it, because not only he had to woke up really early, but he doesn’t have jungkook’s sweet voice helping go through the boredom.

//the good thing about it is that he can afford sit in a corner and read a book, or try to catch up with some work he had been delaying, since just some grannies come for some shopping.

//he’s immersed in one of the books he’s supposed to read for a report when someone enters the store. a young boy, dark hair and darker eyes. he’s pretty attractive, but the side glance and small smile he throws jimin when they lock gazes tells him he’s a bit shy. the boy strides to the farther aisles in silence, jimin focuses back on his books.

//”Hello,” says the boy and the single word has jimin’s head snapping towards him, it sounds slightly familiar. the boy raises an eyebrow but doesn’t say anything else.
“hello.” he answers, and starts charging everything without saying anything else.
“Thanks, have a good day.” he says once the other has paid and is about to leave. the boy smiles charmingly, sweet, and says:
“you too, thank you.” jimin stares a him because his voice sounds so so so familiar.
“is something wrong?” asks the boy with confusion written all over his face and then everything clicks.
“oh my fucking god, it’s you!” screams jimin, blushing immediately because holy shit it’s jungkook and holy shit he just screamed at jungkook
“uhm…. do we know each other?”
“no…I mean i do, i know you and this just sounds so creepy but omg im a fan- im so sorry.”
“oh….” jungkook’s face changes then, goes to confusion to realization and smiles once again at jimin. “you listen to my radio program?”
“Yeah…. i- i love you - your show”
“Wow, im glad. it’s always nice to know people like listen to me… thank you so much.”

//Jungkook starts coming to the store more often and jimin tries to play it cool every time, specially when jungkook is being friendly with him and starts a conversation. but they quickly fall into a more comfortable relationship, specially after Jimin confesses he’s JM and jungkook seems happy to know about it.

//jungkook is funny and nice outside of work also, manages to make jimin laugh without really trying. sometimes jungkook is the only one talking as jimin just smiles and nods, staring. because jimin likes jungkook’s soft voice, but likes even more his crooked smile and bunny teeth and the way he feels every time jungkook looks at him. and boy, he’s so in deep.

//they exchange phone numbers and start talking frequently. Sometimes jungkook texts him in the middle of a broadcast. it makes jimin feel special.

//”this song is dedicated to a friend of mine. we’ve become closer recently and im glad to have found such a nice person that fits so well in my life. so, ehm… jimin, i know you are listening- this song is for you”
Jimin tries not to scream in the middle of the store, but now that he thinks about it he’s alone so he squeals out loud out of happiness.

//”It was a beautiful song” says jimin over the phone, after deciding to call jungkook in a boost of braveness.
“Really? I’m glad. i found the artist recently and he really has beautiful songs. I thought you would like this one.”
“I loved it…”
“You know what it’s about?” asks jungkook, his voice soft and warm. for a second jimin forgets they are talking live on radio and there are hundreds of people listening to their conversation. “It’s a bout a new found love.”
“jimin, would it be too brave of me to ask you out on a date?”
“Are you serious?”
“totally…. I like you a lot JM”
“I would love to…”

//after that night jungkook receives a lot of letters asking for advice in love matters, because his way of confessing to jimin was cute and romantic and had all his fans squealing with feels. (jimin dowloaded the podcast to save it on his computer)

//jimin discovers dating a radio host is a bit embarrassing, specially when said host dedicates romantic songs to him or says out loud how much he loves him, but jimin wouldn’t have it any other way. (he loves calling to the program and talk to the other, sometimes embarrassing jungkook on live radio)

Name: Manticore, Martyaxwar, Martichora
Area of Origin: Persia

The Manticore or Martyaxwar (Man-Eater in Middle Persian) is a legendary beast, similar to a sphinx. The beast had the body of a lion, a human head with three rows of sharp teeth, akin to that of a shark, and the barbed tail of a scorpion. Some variations give it wings of some kind. It is also described as having a trumpet-like voice. The more common name, Manticore comes from the Greek translation of Martyaxwar as Martichora. Through false etymology, it was assumed that the name was a combination of ‘Man’ and 'Tiger’ and gradually morphed into what it is called today.

@xxxbladeangelxxx, you need to stop reading my plot notes ok thx ilu ENJOY 💙

“If you really think so,” Yuuri murmurs, lifting Viktor’s hand to kiss his fingers. He is rewarded with a vivid blush, and he takes a few moments of Viktor’s shy silence to admire him, to feel lucky that he has found this amazing person.

“Yuuri,” Viktor whispers, breathless with devotion, and Yuuri smiles and leans in.

“So it’s true what the elders said. Here you are, shacking up with a whore up in the human world like a common thief. Where’s your pride, heir?” sneers a voice from behind them, and Yuuri jerks back to stare at the unwelcome intrusion. A tall ice demon is staring at them, similar to Viktor in his features, but lacking the kindness Yuuri sees in Viktor’s face every day. The demon tilts his head toward Yuuri, a smirk playing on his lips. “Does that mean any of us can have a go?”

“Ivan, what are you doing here?” Viktor asks coldly, his eyes narrowing, and through his touch, Yuuri can feel Viktor’s apprehension. Nobody from Viktor’s family should be bothering them.

A Peek at the Food of Terratus.

Since I love world-building and food, I figured a post looking at the food and agricultural products in Tyranny was something that I had to do. I’m listing ingredients and crops here, but could be persuaded to come up with a cuisine and meal post much, much, later.

Because the game takes place mostly in the Tiers, most of this information may be only pertinent to them, if something can be linked back to the North or the rest of the Empire, I’ll make sure to mention it. Another thing to note is that a decent number of the consumable items use art assets from Pillars of Eternity, a very different setting with different influences, and that makes it a little murkier to interpret how it could fit into Tyranny’s setting.

The format will be a list (again) of named edibles found or mentioned in-game, separated into food groups. And thanks to everyone who helped me with this list or tolerated my yammering about it, you know who you are!

| It’s Only Magic: Malec Hogwarts AU (WIP by saraubs

“The words spark another memory: Magnus, cloaked in shadows, sipping on bootlegged Firewhiskey and trailing glitter along the Slytherin Common Room. A voice like velvet, snaking along the rug-covered floors of the dungeon, warming Alec from the chill that had settled in his bones the second he’d followed Izzy into the party. Why don’t you join me, Lightwood? I’m willing to bet there are a few things I could teach you.”

Alec Lightwood has been doing everything in his power to avoid Magnus Bane since he broke his heart halfway through their sixth year. He’s managed quite well, burying himself in Quidditch and studying, until Magnus shows up at his spot in the library, asking for a favour. Alec knows that he should tell Magnus to go to hell, but he also knows that his ex gives him the best chance of acing potions - the only subject holding him back from his dream of being an Auror.

So when do u think we’re getting a sinister six-style team up of everyone Rick has pissed off and left alive so far? (I.e. Super Nova, Zeep Xanflorp, Beta-7 or the Zigerions maybe?)

you want to know who i am.

i am fire, red-hot flames reaching up into the sky and searing the clouds and burning their way through heaven while the angels cower in their white marble buildings and learn to fear my name.

i am agony, pain that soaks into your skin and writes its name on your bones over and over until it all goes numb and you get used to the throb and you get used to the hurt and the urge to give up.

i am strength, bravery that pushes you to get back onto your feet because a moment of weakness is a moment where you will be defeated, adrenaline and the need to win running through your veins in a toxic cocktail.

i am heat, i am ash and cinder and rising again from the burnt-out embers, i am the refusal to lie on the ground and sob like any common mortal. i am the voice in the back of your head that pushes you to get up when you want nothing more than to stay down.

i am the thing that cannot be killed, the thing that cannot remain alive, the being you can only see out of the corner of your eye, a crown made of burnt and blackened bones on their head and burning hot jewels covering skin as dark as coal. i am the being with a merry bonfire dancing in their eyes and hands that singe if they touch you for more than a millisecond, with thirteen different lighters in their pockets and boxes of matches which they wield as skillfully as pencils.

i am phoenix, i am inferno, i am stay away because if you come too close you will go up in flames. i am of another place and another time. i am that which you could never understand.

an alternative to some of the really clean, neat n tidy ravenclaw common room hcs i see a lot:

the room has stacks of books everywhere, scraps of parchment holding pages and fluttering off seats when you sit down. there’s a magical chalkboard covering an entire wall that animates doodles, and helps with homework if you ask it nicely. it’ll show you how to conjugate that verb correctly and translate that turn of phrase, but don’t try and get it to just give you the answers–it holds grudges.

it’s never quiet. other students think that the rc common room sounds like quiet voices and clinking glasses, pages turning almost silently. no, the common room is loud, with debates raging in the corner and older students helping the younger, voices shouting across the room to ask what page that equation was on. it’s loud and messy and if you want a place to study quietly, you’re better off going to the library. but if you want to learn with others: the rc common room is the place to go.

A fill for @angry-space-ravenclaw ‘s cabbie Remus/Posh Sirius AU that someone asked for. Hope you like it!

Sirius was 100 percent done and they’d only been up for an hour. Their driver had called in sick with the flu, leaving Sirius no option but to walk to work. It had begun to rain out of nowhere, soaking their new black leather books and practically ruining them. Their hair, that they had spent a good hour straightening because it was so thick, was now a frizzy mess. They officially decided to give up and get a cab like some kind of peasant.

Holding one perfectly manicured hand up, Sirius waved for a good five minutes before finally a cab pulled over. Sighing in relief, they pulled their hair into a messy bun to try and contain it. Sirius climbed inside and made a face of disgust at their clothes sticking to their body.

“GQ offices at Hanover square,” they instructed the driver without so much as looking at him.

They pulled their compact mirror out of their bag and checked to make sure that their make-up hadn’t smeared in the rain. Thank fuck for water-proof mascara. Their bag began to vibrate in their hands with an incoming call and they dropped their mirror inside to pick it up.

“Jamie!” they said forlornly. “You won’t believe the day I’m having. It’s been a nightmare.”

“I’m sure it wasn’t that bad.”

“It was,” Sirius whined loudly. “My driver has the flu and so I was walking to work when it started to rain. I look like a hot mess!”

“I’m sure you look gorgeous,” James said placatingly in his most soothing tone.

“You always say that,” Sirius said, rolling their eyes. “You would say that even if I was wearing a bag over my head and last year’s Prada.”

“I don’t know the difference between last year and this year when it comes to Prada.”

“I know, you’re a heathen,” Sirius said, huffing as a loose hair fell into their face. “I don’t know why I spend any time with you.”

“Because you love me,” James said in a teasing tone.

“Jamie, you don’t understand,” Sirius said, wanting them to focus up back on them. “I’m in a cab right now. A cab. Like some kind of commoner!”

“Oh how awful for you,” a voice said and it took Sirius a moment to figure out if it came from James or the cabbie. They blinked a few times.

“Jamie, I’ve got to go,” they said, ringing off before James could say anything more. They leaned forward in their seat and practically stuck their head through the partition. “Excuse me, did you say something?”

The cabbie parted him a short glance and then turned his eyes back to the road. Sirius barely got a good look at his face but what they did get a good look at was the cutest tawny curls sticking out from underneath the sides of the cabbie’s hat. Sirius practically squealed when he saw them. The cabbie was simply adorable.

“I didn’t say anything,” the cabbie responded in a thick Welsh accent. “Please sit back.”

Sirius grinned. “Have you been a cabbie long?”

The cabbie let out a long-suffering sigh. “I don’t see how that’s any of your business.”

“I could make it my business.”

“How original,” the cabbie said sarcastically.

“Are you always this surly?”

“No,” the cabbie answered, pulling over in hanover square in front of the GQ building. “Sometimes I’m even surlier. That’ll be five pounds- fifty.”

Sirius got out of the cab and passed him a tenner. While he did, he noticed the ID next to the meter. The name said Remus.  “Keep the change.”

“You’d better fuckin’ get back if you don’t want your foot run over,” Remus said, shifting the cars gear. Sirius jumped back as Remus peeled away from the kerb and joined traffic. They couldn’t believe that Remus had been so disinterested in them. That he had rejected them.

What was the world coming to? No one turned down Sirius Black.

In the end it took forty-two cab rides for Sirius to end up back in Remus’ cab. Every day, taking a cab to and from work, was the absolute worst. It was extremely disappointing every time he got into a cab and it wasn’t Remus at the wheel. They would ask the cabbies if they knew of Remus but they all remained frustratingly tight-lipped about it. Sirius was beginning to despair of ever finding Remus again.

The forty-second time was when they finally found the right cab.

“It’s you!” Sirius said excitedly as they quickly got out of the back seat and scrambled into the front before the car started moving. “Finally! My name is Sirius Black, by the way, since we didn’t get properly introduced the other day.”

“Yeah, I was really fucking sad about that,” Remus responded, his voice monotone. “Please get in the back of the cab.”

“But I’ll be lonesome back there,” Sirius said, letting their lower lip protrude in a pout.

Remus didn’t look up for quarreling about it and pulled away from the kerb. “So, a bunch of the other cabbies were talking about this mental person who has been asking them all about me.”

“Oh?” Sirius asked, batting their eyelashes innocently.

“You wouldn’t happen to know anything about that, would you?”

“I might have been asking around about you.”

“Why?” Remus inquired, glancing over at Sirius. “What possible interest could you have in me?”

“I don’t know,” they said, shrugging. “You’re cute.”

Remus made a face. “No, I’m not.”

“You are too,” Sirius told him, reaching out and sliding their fingers through his curls. “I went to a lot of trouble to find you, you know.”

“So?” Remus said, pulling his head away. “You can’t think I owe you or something just because you’re insane.”

Sirius whined. “But Remus, I have this issue.”

“I think you’ve got a lot of them,” Remus shot back.

“I really want to kiss you,” Sirius said, scooting closer.

“Why?” Remus asked again. “I’m nothing special and you may be mental but you’re still rich and gorgeous and I’m led to believe people like that sort of stuff.”

“You think I’m gorgeous?” Sirius asked, batting their eyelashes.

“Oh come on, you’ve got to know you are.”

“Pull the car over,” Sirius requested.

“For what?”

“What do you like?” Sirius asked softly.

Remus pulled over to the side of the road and turned to face Sirius. He scrubbed his hand over his face in exasperation. “The meter’s running and since you asked I like people that don’t harass cabbies.”

“Okay, I can do that, no problem,” Sirius said, perking up. “What else?”

“Fuckin’ hell,” Remus swore, grabbing Sirius by their Chanel silk scarf and hauling them forward into a kiss. Sirius couldn’t even be upset about the wrinkled silk because Remus was an excellent kisser. Much too soon, Remus was pulling back, his eyes searching Sirius’ for something.

“I knew you liked me,” Sirius said triumphantly.

Remus groaned and placed his hand on Sirius’ waist. “You’re going to be a handful, aren’t you?”

“Probably,” Sirius conceded, kissing Remus again. “Can I take you to dinner?”

“I don’t know, can you?” Remus countered, raising an eyebrow.

“God, and you think I’m difficult?” Sirius asked, huffing in annoyance. “May I take you to dinner?”

“Sure,” Remus said, reaching into his pocket and pulling out a business card. “This is my number and I’m giving it to you with the strict understanding that you do not bother any more cabbies, agreed?”

“I’m free on Saturday,” Remus informed them. “Also, I’m not driving your arse around, so I hope your driver is over the flu.”

“Aww, you were paying attention to me!” Sirius said, flinging their arms around Remus and hugging him tightly.

“Like you’re someone that can be ignored,” Remus muttered, hugging Sirius back.

Sirius chuckled and buried their face in Remus’ neck, nuzzling it softly. “I’m so glad I found you.”

“For the sake of all the cabbies in London, I am too,” Remus quipped. “Oh, and Sirius?”

“Yes Remus?”

“Meter’s still running.”

“Oh you bastard!”
