My boyfriend found a book in a Vancouver back alley in the rain. It was soggy, but full of wonderful photographs, so we salvaged it.

One of the photographs (Blind Boy, New York City, 1960) taken by Charles Harbutt really inspired the new version of the film. Something about searching for light in the dark really strikes me as what this whole film is about.
