Stamford police cite drivers who pass stopped school buses

STAMFORD — Drivers seemed to get the message this year that passing stopped school buses is bad a idea. In their annual back-to-school watch for violators, city police cited only four motorists for breaking the law Monday morning, the first official day of school. Traffic Enforcement Unit officers wrote the $465 tickets to drivers on Summer and Bedford streets between 6 and 9 a.m., Officer Jeff Booth said. While one motorist was getting a ticket on Bedford Street, another motorist came along and, despite the flashing lights from police vehicles, passed a bus that was picking up children, Booth said.
