Candle color meanings

The burning of candles for spiritual purposes is a practice that dates back to ancient times. For as long as there have been candles, there were people who believed that a lit candle can connect the physical world with the spiritual realm. To these people, fire and flame are representations of the spark of creation. To light a candle is to illuminate the self.

Individuals accepting these beliefs use the burning light of candles to unfold their divine potential. What follows is an examination of these beliefs and the meaning behind illuminated candles combined with prayer and meditation. This examination will of course include a look into the significance and meaning of candle colors.

White Candles

The white candle represents the highest level of consciousness. Burning a white candle in conjointment with a meditative state is to seek protection, healing and purification. White represents truth, unity, harmony, and wholeness of spirit. The user who burns a white candle is invoking lunar energy. Since all colors are derived from pure white light, a white candle can be used as replacement for any other candle in many rituals.

Red Candles

The color red is firmly rooted in the physical world. The burning of red candles is said to put one in touch with the power of the flesh. Red represents temporal pleasures. It symbolizes passion and love as well as scorn and courage to stand up to one’s enemies. Red stimulates energy, vitality, fertility and personal power. Those who light a red candle are tapping into Scorpio energy. They seek love, respect, power magnetism and survival.

Yellow Candles

The color yellow exemplifies brainpower and intellect. He or she who lights a yellow candle is seeking to access the wisdom of the ages, and garner control over the full benefit of their own mental powers. Yellow embodies creativity, inspiration, concentration, logic, learning and action. The light of a yellow candle brings one closer to attaining the cheerfulness, endurance, stability and security they crave.

Blue Candles

Made from a primary spiritual color, blue candles are used in the examination of emotions (Saturn energy) and the attainment of calming wisdom and healing sleep. There are many shades of blue. Burning a dark blue candle promotes joy and laughter. Dark blue influences dreams and emotions. Royal blue signifies loyalty and fealty. Royal blue stirs the spiritual self and this color of candle is invoked by seekers of truth. Light blue is another very spiritual color. Light blue candles radiate Aquarian energy (calm waters) and are ideal for pursuing inspirational meditations. Those who light a blue candle are seeking truth, harmony and guidance while amplifying their creativity and perception.

Green Candles

Green is the color of success and abundance. This meaning can be traced back through the ages to when prosperity meant a bountiful harvest. Light a green candle when you want to mediate and reflect on nature, growth, healing and the good luck that makes finding employment or business success possible.

Black Candles

The burning of a black candle is serious business. This is done when one wants to neutralize negative energies. The color black offers protection from illness, evil and the negative energy cast upon you from outside forces. The black candle is also burned to harness the healing energy of the universe.

Pink Candles

The color pink manifests love, devotion, friendship and faith. Putting a flame to a pink candle means that the devotee is interested in forming a partnership or is possibly seeking affection or perhaps emotional healing. The color of universal love, pink represents the purest form of love – unconditional and enduring. Pink candles are used in rituals to attract attention or achieve some other joyful purpose.

Orange Candles

The great portrait artists of the Middle Ages understood well the power of orange. Orange is the color of sudden change. It confers upon those who dare to wear it, a form of super-power. Few people today (including royalty) possess the boldness required to put on orange garments. To this end, the act of burning an orange candle is an aggressive move. One would do so to effect instant and profound change. The lighting of orange candles is suitable for rituals occurring on the eve of weddings or important business meetings.

Purple Candles

Students of esoterism believe that purple candles have the power to cancel out the negative effects of bad karma. Ancient wisdom holds that the color purple is associated with the third eye. Burning a purple candle can enhance psychic powers. The color has a meaning steeped in meditation, divination and hidden knowledge. Those who burn purple candles do so to expand upon what they already have. They may also wish to obtain spiritual protection, find recognition, or seek reconciliation with something that exists in the realm of the spirits.

Brown Candles

Brown is the color of our Earth. This color represents above all things balance and a firm connection to the land. The individual who supplicates in the presence of a burning brown candle is sending a message to the universe that they respect the dignity and solemnity of mother Earth (they are well-grounded), and that they acknowledge the delicate balance of all things living on this Earth. Brown candles are used in rituals to regain balance, seek refuge from chaos, eliminate indecisiveness, find lost items and develop meaningful friendships.

Gray Candles

Gray is a neutral color. It is useful to the practitioner when meditating on complex issues. The gray candle has the power to offset negative influences without repercussions. The gray candle is used in the same manner that charcoal is used to flush poisons from the body.

Gold Candles

The gold candle is burned by the votary to achieve enlightenment. This is because the color gold emblemizes light in its purest form. Gold is the very symbol of good fortune. It represents money, success, protection and victory over our troubles. The burning of a gold candle enhances communication with the universe as it attracts positive cosmic influences. Gold candles are recommended for use in rituals undertaken to gain personal power or fortune.

Highly spiritual believers hold that a candle flame can create a passageway that will enable prayers and petitions to be more easily received by such powers from which help is being sought. For these supporters of the faith, the deep meaning of candle color is what enables them to focus and meditate on their goals, objectives, problems and their ultimate solutions.

The Energon Harvester Prop!

Took about 4 hrs to make. I’m overall happy with how it turned out. I realy had to brainstorm so it could transform to replicate the likenes of it in the show.

I spent some time texturing the paint to have some patina look and give it a nice contrast to make the details on the plating look a little weathered around the edges and make the rest stand out.

It is built using a Styrofoam ball as the base. I melt cut to accomodate the transforming mechanisms and the battery packs. :)

Deprivation

Jasper Hale imagine requested by anon! “The reader is having nightmares and isn’t really sleeping but doesn’t tell Jasper out of fear of worrying him but he begins sensing her exhaustion and knows how to comfort her through both his powers and how long they’ve been dating and is able to both confront and comfort her? Thank you so much.” Hope you like it!

It was the fourth night adhering to your newfound, and limited, sleep schedule. You lay awake, your cheek resting softly against the marble chest of your boyfriend, his skin chilling your cheekbone against all odds, cold piercing through the thin fabric of his shirt, his fingertips lazing gently along the curvature of your spine. He knew you were awake, though the two of you exchanged no words, his unnecessary breath keeping time with yours, lungs filling in tandem. The air was stagnant in your bedroom, flooded with notes of aged fabric and filling sweetly with the intoxicating scent that lifted so easily from Jasper’s skin. It was not an uncomfortable environment to find yourself sleepless within. Hell, the only surface you could find that may have been harder than Jasper’s slow-moving chest was concrete, and still you found yourself at ease and entirely relaxed against the plains of his body. With the warmth of your blanket’s cotton embrace and the familiar chill of Jasper’s holding you close, it was almost laughable how you couldn’t bear to fall asleep. The world’s most particular infant would be out in seconds… and yet you laid awake, your eyes blinking senselessly into the darkness of your room, tracing shadows, counting breath, and fighting the urge to sleep.

Jasper’s fingers swirled unseen circles against the curve of your shoulder blades, his touch hovering with determined delicacy, always aware of the damage he could cause with a thoughtless flick of his wrist. Your eyes closed peacefully, your lashes whispering against his shirt, your steady intake of breath exaggerated some by the facade of sleepiness you hoped you exuded. In truth, there was no escaping the truth of your situation. Jasper, even without his heightened empathy, would have been able to tell your falsehoods from sincerity as easily as he could identify your face in a crowd of strangers. Still, you were dead-set on keeping your internal struggle from being brought to light beneath the vampire’s nose. The last thing you needed was to have Jasper hovering over your headboard as you slept, overly-concerned for your well-being, religiously controlling the thermostat and amount of light entering your room as he fought to give you the night’s sleep you deserved. No, Jasper couldn’t be brought into the loop; you distinctly remembered the expression that had set into his features when you let slip how afraid you were of vampires. This was before you knew of his family’s secret, of course, but the man had gone well out of his way to prove to you how gentle he could be, how kind, how safe before finally telling you why he skipped school during the blood drive and how he had run so far so fast when a passerby tripped on the pavement during your late-night outing in Port Angeles.

Your conviction had been watertight nights one and two, but you found yourself slipping the last two days; if only you could charm a mental nudge from Jasper, just enough to calm you down, perhaps you wouldn’t see the startling images that painted themselves across your eyelids when you tried to sleep. Pictures of death, portraits of scattered limbs… a thousand vampires, their pupils blown wide within frames of violent crimson, sinking their teeth into every exposed inch of Jasper’s flesh as he thrashed and writhed in pain. He did not bleed, but the injury was obvious. He did not speak, but his wordless, sometimes voiceless cries were exponentially worse to witness. When they tore his arms from their sockets, his face contorted in agony. When they hurled him in your direction, his eyes terrified as he absorbed the full extent of his environment, you could hardly bear to watch. When the vampires crowded about you, their ravenous eyes torn between their two victims, you could only watch. This was usually when he began to speak, his sentences punctuated with shouts of pain as more and more hands became claws around his neck. You felt it, then; the ripping, the tearing of your flesh as the mob descended. Jasper, of course, could do nothing but watch. You found yourself, for once, on equal ground. When you woke, the image of Jasper’s head lifted above the crowd of newborns was still branded into the front of your mind. Jasper’s hands would smooth over your hair, as they did now, his voice a soothing force in the inky darkness.

“You walk like the dead all day, but when it comes time you can’t sleep?” he whispered into the shadows, his fingers trailing upward along the back of your neck, his palm smoothing over the strands of your hair. His voice was like honey, dripping slowly through the summer’s heat, catching the sunset’s rays as it descended. You lifted your face to meet his gaze, his butterscotch eyes gleaming in the lack of light. His hair harvested the moonlight as it shone, just barely, through your curtains. He adjusted himself to better accommodate your new position, inching himself into a seated stance before inviting you to his chest once more, his arms closing around your waist as you nestled yourself into his lap. He inhaled slowly, his eyes burning from within with adoration, almost enough adoration to hide the underlying concern that threatened to douse the flames until they were no more than embers. He lifted a hand to cradle your cheek, his palm frigid to the touch, your body too accustomed to his radical temperature to flinch. He smiled a slow, easy smile, his lips upturned in the corners, his face relaxed. “Tell me what’s wrong,” he offered, his words neither command nor inquiry, his features betraying nothing. If you had been strangers, you would have believed him to be impartial to your answer, uncaring on the subject of if he ever got one… but you knew him. He was already half-mad with worry. You returned his quiet smile, your eyes bleary from lack of sleep, your muscles aching from the absence of rest.

“I’m fine, Jazz. A little insomnia never killed anyone, I can promise you that.” You ran your fingers absentmindedly through waves of his golden hair, his eyes closing at your touch. He sighed blissfully, his hands dropping to your waist, his thumbs working into your hipbones as your hands fell to the nape of his neck, your fingers interlacing to secure your hands at the back of his neck. Jasper’s eyes washed over your face, his brow pinching as he took you in. “I wish you’d stop worrying so much. Really, I’m fine. Loads of people have sleepless nights. It’s not as big a deal as you think.” He parted his lips to counter your claim, but you continued over his unspoken argument. “Jasper, it’s a human thing. A night or two without sleep isn’t the plague. I’m going to be fine.” He lifted his hand to your face, his fingers smoothing over your cheekbone, his thumb moving to caress the bags beneath your eyes. They looked more like bruises every day, each night darkening and deepening the external effects of your deprivation.

“You’re not fine, Y/n. If I couldn’t hear your heart beating, couldn’t feel how warm you are, couldn’t smell your blood like perfume, you could convince me you were bit four days ago and I wouldn’t call your bluff. You look more and more like me every day.” His hand fell to your shoulder, smoothing over your arm until your hand had moved to meet his between your bodies. He twined his fingers with your own, his eyes bright with anxiety. “If you tell me why you’re so afraid, I could help you. You know I could.” You rested your forehead against his own, your breath expelling from your lungs in a single, weightless huff. Jasper tilted his head, freeing his hand from your hold to guide your head to his shoulder, the hand he had held at your waist smoothing upward until it rubbed against the middle of your back. His voice was a melodic whisper against your hair. “I’ve never seen you so exhausted. Tell me how I can help you, and I’ll do it. I’ll do anything.” You felt tears well along your waterlines; frustration-born and embarrassing, saltwater flowed down over your cheekbones, making contact with the shoulder of Jasper’s shirt, his hands slowing against your back, his palm abandoning your hair to smudge the tears along your cheek, breaking their trails as they fell. “You can tell me anything, darlin’. I’ve probably heard a lot worse.” You collapsed against him, your body giving out under the strain of your sleeplessness.

“I keep seeing it. Every time I try to sleep I see it happen, over and over. I thought it would go away, but it keeps getting worse. For the past week and a half I’ve been having this… this… terrifying dream. It’s only just gotten to the point where I can’t even close my eyes without seeing it all… happen again. It used to be once a night, then twice a night, but now…” you inhaled, your breath trembling as it flooded your lungs. “It’s always the same scene. You’re alone on a field, wearing Calvary greys, but your eyes are still so bright, so warm. I see you look around like you’re trapped, see them rush you from all around, and there are so many of them. They keep biting you, here and here and here,” you whimpered, further emphasizing your tale of terror as your fingers traced, by memory, the ridges of his numerous scars. “Then they start to tear at you, and you’re screaming and I can’t do anything to help, but I want to, so I feel myself reaching forward and suddenly I’m there, with you, and all of them turn to me like they’re starving and I’m a feast. Half of them keep ripping pieces of you away, the other start ripping at me, and just before I wake up I see your head come off.” Jasper’s breath had ceased, his hands frozen along the expanse of your back, his eyes glued to your face as you spun your nightmare into verbal reality, shaking your head all the while as if to dash the very thoughts from your brain. “And I know it’s ridiculous to even think that this could happen, but it’s not so much a thing of the present or future as it is a peephole into the past. I know at least some of this happened to you, Jasper, I know what could happen if anything like what you faced with Maria comes to Forks. And I can’t bear to lose you, can’t stand to think about it. I have to stay awake so I know you’re okay because every time I close my eyes I can’t be sur-” Jasper’s lips found your own then, his mouth working over yours with a heated passion you had hardly ever witnessed before. His hand tangled in your hair, his palm pressing against the small of your back to secure your body to his. He parted his lips from yours, pressing kisses against your cheek, your forehead, his breath flowing freely over your skin. When he leveled his eyes with yours, his gaze was a blaze of impossible love. He held your face between both of his palms, his hold on yours both gentle and firm. You could look nowhere else but into his eyes.

“Y/n, we’re not in danger here. I’m far detached from the armies of newborns that destroy the southern cities. I haven’t seen or heard from Maria in close to a hundred years. She and her masses of untrained soldiers are no threat to us. I’ve been bit before, of course, but that was when I was a newborn myself. Nowadays, I doubt any of them would be able to touch me. They would never come close enough to touch you, not by ten miles. On my honour, they wouldn’t even catch the scent of you before they were burning in pieces. I’m not looking for fights, and I don’t expect to find one on our doorstep anytime soon. You have my word. There’s nothing to be worried about. I promise to keep my head set firmly on my shoulders so long as you keep yours, and that requires sleep, darlin’.” A giggle escaped your lips, watered-down slightly from the recent flow of tears from your eyes. Jasper’s grin was near blinding in the darkness. “Come on, now. Close your eyes. We’ll both be here when you wake up.” You nodded your head, your body collapsing further against the hardened muscles of Jasper’s torso. You lifted your head for a brief moment, your eyes locked on his.

“Could you do your mind thing? With the…” Jasper nodded solemnly, the shadow of a grin itching at the corner of his mouth as a warming wave of comfort washed over your limbs like an ocean breeze. You smiled, content, pressing your lips to his jaw before resting your cheek against his shoulder once more, his smile now clearly visible. “Thank you,” you breathed, Jasper’s borrowed comfort easing your eyes closed, your every exhale deepening your state of relaxation until your mind began to fog over. You felt a pang of fear tighten in your chest, followed swiftly by a rush of serenity and ease. You slowly faded away to sleep, Jasper’s hands tracing the ridges of your spine as you lifted from reality to settle in the meadow of a dream.
