life laughter

I hate I begged you to stay
I was foolish
had you not have left
I would not be the woman I am now
beautiful, independent, free
thank you for leaving
it all makes sense
—  it’s funny how life works itself out

i keep trying to memorize every detail of the moments i live in. in the soreness of my legs from standing so long at a concert, the chill of the night, the patterns of a tablecloth, the oily texture in my mouth after eating fried bananas. i keep trying to memorize the feelings, the quiet contentedness, the laughter, the excitement. i keep trying to memorize the people, their smiles, the way they speak, what makes them laugh. i’m constantly on the cusp of the next part of my life and that’s just so.. strange. but it makes it so much easier to find happiness no matter what’s happening to me, in a way? because i’m already kind of looking at life with those rose-colored glasses of nostalgia, simply because i know these are times i’ll never be able to live again, and these are people i might not always have, and that makes it so much easier to appreciate everything i might miss later.

Life is purposeless. Don’t be shocked. The whole idea of purpose is wrong – it comes out of greed. Life is a sheer joy, a playfulness, a fun, a laughter, for no purpose at all. Life is its own end, it has no other end. The moment you understand it, you have understood what meditation is all about. It is living your life joyously, playfully, totally, and with no purpose at the end, with no purpose in view, no purpose there at all. Just like small children playing on the sea beach, collecting seashells and coloured stones – for what purpose? There is no purpose at all.

Can you count how many times you smiled today? Maybe how many times you genuinely laughed? Hopefully you shouldn’t be able to. Hopefully, as amazing as it is, it happened so many times that you were unable to keep track!

The secret is to never lose sight of the simple, everyday miracles in life. Good food, literature, laughter, music, compelling conversation, nature, and art. Look for them in every day, and even when it feels like your whole world is unravelling, you will never be too far from a needle and thread.

(because I can)

I had resigned myself to everyone being dead by the end but somehow I wasn’t prepared for them to lose her.

Lemon, dogs, garlic bread, laughter, friends, nature, animals, bad movies, worse jokes, rainy days and Ikea. That is a list of things that make me happy. Your list of happiness may not even touch on the things that are on mine, we are all so different. What makes one person happy may never cross the mind of another, it is unique for everyone. Don’t judge someones good places or joy, you never know where you might meet.
