One year ago, on the Great Wall.

When you sit down at a big tourist attraction to sketch for two hours, lots of interesting things happen. I had countless photo requests, and doubtless even more photos taken behind my back; people of all ages from all over the world, sitting down on the steps beside me and striking up conversations in Mandarin, English and Japanese; and strangers turned instant friends, giving me business cards and email addresses and inviting me to visit them in (fill in the blank). My impression of China has always been loud and pushy, but Beijing showed me a different side up on the Wall that kept me smiling all day.
