Aries —
oh, my sweet, sweet child, what has the world done to you? you were a bright promise,
the tomorrow we had hoped for, holding flowers in your mouth without crushing them
and trusting blindly in those around you. and then came the blood; and now your fire
is a quiet thing, a crackling murmur hidden in the shadows. you’ve curled into yourself
like a newborn babe, held your heart tightly to your chest and began the tedious healing.
and all the salt in your tears made the deep wounds sting; was it this what kept you pure?
I wonder, oh, I wonder. before you, I had never seen an anathema so full of innocence.
(the world tried to cast you down from paradise; and it succeeded. but the fall couldn’t
maim you, for fire cannot kill fire – it simply shrunk you, much like a mimosa bloom.
I hope one day you’ll feel safe enough to flower, for there is so much beauty in you.)

Taurus —
I wish I could wrap my hands around your shoulders and hold you close for a while,
because oh, what sad things they are, your bones. I am so sorry, beloved; so very sorry.
and I am well aware these apologies cannot change anything, but I want you to know
that there is someone who sees you as you are – even when all the others see is your
superfluous frivolity and your desire for riches, I see the thoughtful mind, the gentle
gestures, each and every of your heartbeats. the song of you is imprinted into my memory
as the change in seasons is; you are unforgettable, something so precious and so very dear.
(don’t let them shame you for your greed – those who try to do so cannot wrap their
all too little minds around the fact that sin is not necessarily negative. your love for gold
has root in the same place as your love for others; you only want it so you may share it.)

Gemini —
it’s lonely, isn’t it? not being the way all others are. they tell you you’re a forgery, that your
smile is a mask and your composure an act, simply because they cannot accept the idea
that people are supposed to be multidimensional. on and on they go, pinning their ignorance
to you under the name of blame, seeing in you only that which they wish to see. sometimes,
you wish you were like them. I know you do. you shouldn’t. it might be lonely where you are,
but that doesn’t mean it’s a bad thing; lonely doesn’t mean secluded. there are others like you,
with minds like diamonds. others like you, who are only habitual in their tendency for change.
(you will find someone who can make sense out of you, one day, you know. they’ll know you
better than you yourself do – every single aspect of you, every single frantic facet and feeling.
and when you do, the wait will be more than worth it. I promise you won’t die nor live alone.)

Cancer —
you poor, poor, poor thing. it’s been a thousand years since you’ve curled into yourself, hid
your heart deep in the cradle of your ribs and let yourself sleep; then the time came for you
to awaken, and you found the world unchanged – it was as if everything had stood still.
reality swept into you like saltwater into gaping wounds, and every fiber of your soul wept.
fearful, you took the broken glass road still, walked it fully aware of what laid in waiting;
like a bride the night she is wed to a stranger, you swallowed your terror and saw it through.
often, those ignorant make you out to be such a bumbling coward. you’re not. you just aren’t.
(in fact, you’re on of the bravest people I know; it takes so much courage to let the world
see you weep – and it takes even more of it to wipe your tears and keep moving forward.
above all, it takes immense courage to allow yourself to love even when you know it’ll hurt.)

Leo —
the size of your heart puts to shame both Jupiter and your own pride and ego; to this day,
I am not sure if you would have been better off with one much smaller, but I know for sure
the world would have been emptier by far. you see, your touch is one of gold; whomever
you decide to invest your time and love into grows the size of Atlas, and so, without you
as you are now there would have been much less in the world. that is your downfall, isn’t it?
always has been. the way you’ve always put others first, giving them all of you, never asking
for anything to be given to you in return. you are a gardener, dearest, and people are your roses.
(it breaks my heart that all your selfless effort was almost always repaid in hurt and sorrow;
know that you are not to be blamed for any of it. you have done nothing wrong – sometimes,
things simply fall apart. don’t shut your heart. I’d hate to see your love rot and turn to hatred.)

Virgo —
you have endured well the contempt of others, my dear; you have taken every blow with open arms.
they have called you frigid and prude and arrogant and everything in between, but you knew better.
tell me then: if you can endure so well the slander of others, if you don’t care what they make of you,
why do you worry so? why do you see only blemishes when you look at yourself in the mirror?
your hesitance to trust others stems in your fear that if you let them in they’ll see your ugliness, all
the imagined imperfections you see in your reflection. you can’t trust others because you don’t trust
yourself; and I wish so badly that you would have a little more faith in who you are, in your beauty.
(being unable to forgive, jealousy and lust do not make you terrible. hate is human nature as much
as love is; emotions, be they bad or good, are intrinsic to mankind. you are such a passionate being,
despite your outward delicacy, and that, my dear, is simply stunning. please try to love yourself.)

Libra —
darling child, didn’t the gods tell you the mob sees dancers as something of the devil, especially
when their preferred stage is the sharp edge of a sword? few in this world love truth, and fewer still
are fond of things like righteousness and justice. your ability to remain indiscriminate in the face
of contradictory realities and deny none of them is both a blessing and a curse. your mind, I fear,
is the Pandora fate has crafted specifically for you; a beautiful gift that hides such doom and sorrow.
and you are aware of all of this – how you were meant for greater things, with your noble mind
and your true heart, yet on you dance, fighting against the windmills of adversity. how brave you are.
(know that your effort will not go without reward. know that you won’t be forever unloved, nor
will you be forever misunderstood. there will be those whom, like you, have the makings of just men,
and they will understand. keep your eyes open and search the crowd; that is what you do best.)

Scorpio —
I look at you and my heart grows small; there is so much sadness in you, from the flower
of your eyes to the slouching arch of your shoulders. you have been misjudged
and falsely accused for so long: whore, they said; monster, perverter, sickness of the soul –
and all of it because you like sex, as if somehow they are the virgin mary reborn,
the goddamn hypocrites. this, too, is something they have misunderstood; it is not sex
that you crave or are interested in. it is intimacy: it is the vulnerability that comes with having
your soul completely bared and lain before another; you crave love, in its’ purest of forms.
(and I know they have convinced you that someone of your kind is not “worthy”; fuck that.
your love is priceless, and one day someone will call your battle scars a masterpiece.
one day someone will love you as wholly as you deserve to be loved. they will love all of you.)

Sagittarius —
there is such wanderlust in you – you’ve made a home out of the long, long roads,
walked the earth to its’ ends and bathed in the oceans of the horizon; the sky was
your sole companion, its’ stars your map, the wind a spellsong to ward off the passing
sadness and melancholia that threatened to dim the flame of your heart. oh, my child;
how very wonderful you are, a barefoot nomad forever in awe of the world. the feeble
minded call you rootless; how wrong they are. having a voyager heart does not make you
afraid of commitment. it simply means your roots lie elsewhere, splat across the world.
(do not let their malice plant doubts into your mind’s garden; your gypsy heart is worth more
than all their empty ones combined. keep daring the world, sate your thirst for journeying;
only exploration can ever lead to discovery, so let your feet and head both walk the world.)

Capricorn —
good god, you’re so tired. life has worn you down to the marrow of your bones,
took everything from you until you were bare-handed; and yet.
and yet you’re still here, standing before me, your spine hardened to titanium,
a delicate thing that can withstand even the most apocalyptic of sieges;
you still find it in you to smile, bitter-bloody-all-teeth and still happy, somehow.
know that I am proud of you; of your bravery, of your resilience,
of how you’ve clung to life by the skin of your teeth. I am proud of you.
(and know that you deserve happiness – you may feel like you don’t, you may feel
that it is above the likes of you, but you deserve it; you have earned it.
know that one of these days, the sun will shine down on your lane, too.)

Aquarius —
there’s so much of you inside your skin I am often surprised it has yet to come apart at the seams;
there’s so much of everything inside your skull I am left in awe of your bones – often I wonder,
how are they strong enough to contain the exploding universe inside? my god, this world of ours
has seven wonders and you are all of them. the fortitude of your bright mind ceaselessly
surprises me; I know what to expect, and yet I am still thrown off by your ingenuity and your
ability to remain rational in your abstract ways. nobody but you is open enough to accept it all;
nobody but you can see through the prism of all eyes and walk away with their sanity intact.
(I know they call you “cold”, an ice queen of the Siberian tundra. let them be. those who cannot
see your white-hot warmth are not worthy of your brilliance. you are the brightest star, my dear,
someone accepting and embracing of it all. do not settle for anyone that is blind to your light.)

Pisces —
and how terrible it must be for you, who lives always halfway, to be stuck in a world
that demands certainties which you will never have to give. it is not to say you don’t want
to be resolute – you simply cannot. your world does not have truth, nor does it have falsity;
all that your world has are colors, swirling, forever mingling anew like the clouds in the sky.
one day you are overflowing with everything that blooms inside of you, and lilies
are spilling out of your ribs; the next, you’re empty, and you can’t for the life of you
find something that is all-encompassing enough to fill the growing abyss south of your sternum.
(know that it is okay. the most humane thing you can be is full of contradictions;
as maddening as it can be, each paradox gets you closer to the entity your peers call god.
it was never the devil that built his home on the crossroads, you know. embrace your nature.)

—  poetry for the signs: the “you’ve done well” edition, L. Schreiber
Please, come in. The world is louder than it’s ever been, and your lips make it all seem distant. Your arms make it all seem harmless. I’ve never been good at opening my door to people as genuine as you, but please, come in. Seek refuge in my arms, while I find peace in your eyes. Wrap me up in that thoughtful stare of yours and let me watch your mind run wild. There is calmness in you and I, so please, come in. Stay a while.

Jughead had been typing away on his laptop for hours now. What had started as a quiet night in watching Netflix and eating popcorn had turned into you watching Netflix and eating popcorn alone whilst Jughead’s long fingers tapped away at the keys because, as he so eloquently put it, ‘when inspiration hits, you feed it’.

It was like nothing you had experienced before. Bucky kissed you like you were the only woman he would ever kiss again. He held you close, his hands spreading across your back, arms warm around your frame. He swiped his tongue between your lips and you let him in without hesitation, feeling pleasure run through your body as he began to explore your mouth.

Kidnapped! Prompts

Anonymous said:Got any prompts about the hero being kidnapped?

Anonymous said:Your hero and villain prompts are the best thing. Could I possibly get some prompts about a captured hero who is totally crushing on the villain, who totally knows it?

Anonymous said:Could I please have some prompts for a man who is terribly in love with someone he kidnapped?

Anonymous said:Good afternoon! Could I get a couple of prompts about the hero and villain having to work together in order to escape a much worse villain who has captured them?

Anonymous said:Hero capturing the villain and vice Versa prompts?

1) “Open your eyes.” The villain dragged the hero over to the window, with a vice like grip on their arm. “Open them. Let me show you how beautiful the world looks burning.”

2) “Gotta love the movies,” the villain said. “It makes so many stupid people think that dangerous means chemistry.” They shook their head, laughed. “It makes it all so easy. All you ever have to do is let people believe that they might just be your exception.”

3) “I’m sorry, I love you.”
“You don’t kidnap people when you love them.”
“I couldn’t let you die with the rest of them.”

4) l“For a moment there, I thought you were going to let them have me,” the hero said weakly. “Convenient diversion for your escape, and all that.” They met the villain’s stare - close in their hiding place, bodies pressed together. The tramp of footsteps down the corridor faded away.
“For a moment there,” the villain murmured. “So did I.”

5) “But you,” the hero laughed. “You are nothing. There are a hundred people who do it just like you and thinks hurting someone makes them god. Give it a couple of years, and despite all your efforts, nobody is even going to remember your name.”
The villain spat in their face.
The hero smiled grimly, and straightened, stepping back from the cell. “Enjoy rotting for what you’ve done. Your immortality’s not going to feel so good then.”

6) “You don’t understand - I’m on your side!”
“Nobody’s ever on our side.”

7) “You’ve kidnapped me to an empty restaurant?” the hero raised their brows.
The villain waved their hand and a glassy-eyed server came over to set down drinks and a plate of hors d’oeuvres.
“As if I would be so stupid as to take you to my base so you can have a look around. Isn’t that what you wanted? Besides.” A gleam entered the villain’s eyes as they speared one of the appetizers with their fork and held it across the table. “It’s almost like a date, don’t you think?”
The hero faltered. The villain looked rather too knowing when they said that.

8) “You’re kidding me,” the villain said flatly. “We don’t have time to rescue all your little friends! Security are going to notice us missing any minute.”
“I’m not leaving without them - and you know you’re not getting anywhere without me. So you want to stand here bickering about it or try and think where your not so bosom-buddy is holding them?”

9) “Oh would you look at that,” the villain drawled. “You got me. Your plan worked. You’re probably more terrified then I am - you don’t have the slightest clue what to do with me now, do you?”
“I’m sure I’ll figure something out.”

10) “You know, this is kind of an inconvenient time for me. Any chance we can schedule this in for tomorrow instead?”

You have endured well the contempt of others, my dear; you have taken every blow with open arms. They have called you frigid and prude and arrogant and everything in between, but you knew better. Tell me then: if you can endure so well the slander of others, if you don’t care what they make of you, why do you worry so? Why do you see only blemishes when you look at yourself in the mirror? Your hesitance to trust others stems in your fear that if you let them in they’ll see your ugliness, all the imagined imperfections you see in your reflection. You can’t trust others because you don’t trust yourself; and I wish so badly that you would have a little more faith in who you are, in your beauty. (Being unable to forgive, jealousy and lust do not make you terrible. Hate is human nature as much as love is; emotions, be they bad or good, are intrinsic to mankind. You are such a passionate being, despite your outward delicacy, and that, my dear, is simply stunning. Please try to love yourself.)

Libra —

Darling child, didn’t the gods tell you the mob sees dancers as something of the devil, especially when their preferred stage is the sharp edge of a sword? Few in this world love truth, and fewer still are fond of things like righteousness and justice. Your ability to remain indiscriminate in the face of contradictory realities and deny none of them is both a blessing and a curse. Your mind, I fear, is the Pandora fate has crafted specifically for you; a beautiful gift that hides such doom and sorrow. And you are aware of all of this – how you were meant for greater things, with your noble mind and your true heart, yet on you dance, fighting against the windmills of adversity. How brave you are. (Know that your effort will not go without reward. Know that you won’t be forever unloved, nor will you be forever misunderstood. There will be those whom, like you, have the makings of just men, and they will understand. Keep your eyes open and search the crowd; that is what you do best.)

Scorpio —

I look at you and my heart grows small; there is so much sadness in you, from the flower of your eyes to the slouching arch of your shoulders. You have been misjudged and falsely accused for so long: Whore, they said; monster, perverter, sickness of the soul – and all of it because you like sex, as if somehow they are the Virgin Mary reborn, the goddamn hypocrites. This, too, is something they have misunderstood; it is not sex that you crave or are interested in. It is intimacy: it is the vulnerability that comes with having your soul completely bared and lain before another; you crave love, in its’ purest of forms. (And I know they have convinced you that someone of your kind is not “worthy”; fuck that. Your love is priceless, and one day someone will call your battle scars a masterpiece. One day someone will love you as wholly as you deserve to be loved. They will love all of you.)

Sagittarius —

There is such wanderlust in you – you’ve made a home out of the long, long roads, walked the earth to its’ ends and bathed in the oceans of the horizon; the sky was your sole companion, its’ stars your map, the wind a spellsong to ward off the passing sadness and melancholia that threatened to dim the flame of your heart. Oh, my child; how very wonderful you are, a barefoot nomad forever in awe of the world. The feeble minded call you rootless; how wrong they are. Having a voyager heart does not make you afraid of commitment. It simply means your roots lie elsewhere, splat across the world. (Do not let their malice plant doubts into your mind’s garden; your gypsy heart is worth more than all their empty ones combined. Keep daring the world, sate your thirst for journeying; only exploration can ever lead to discovery, so let your feet and head both walk the world.)

Capricorn —

Good god, you’re so tired. Life has worn you down to the marrow of your bones, took everything from you until you were bare-handed; and yet you’re still here, standing before me, your spine hardened to titanium, a delicate thing that can withstand even the most apocalyptic of sieges; you still find it in you to smile, bitter-bloody-all-teeth and still happy, somehow. Know that I am proud of you; of your bravery, of your resilience, of how you’ve clung to life by the skin of your teeth. I am proud of you. (And know that you deserve happiness – you may feel like you don’t, you may feel that it is above the likes of you, but you deserve it; you have earned it. Know that one of these days, the sun will shine down on your lane, too.)

Aquarius —

There’s so much of you inside your skin I am often surprised it has yet to come apart at the seams; there’s so much of everything inside your skull I am left in awe of your bones – often I wonder, how are they strong enough to contain the exploding universe inside? My god, this world of ours has seven wonders and you are all of them. The fortitude of your bright mind ceaselessly surprises me; I know what to expect, and yet I am still thrown off by your ingenuity and your ability to remain rational in your abstract ways. Nobody but you is open enough to accept it all; nobody but you can see through the prism of all eyes and walk away with their sanity intact. (I know they call you “cold”, an ice queen of the Siberian tundra. Let them be. Those who cannot see your white-hot warmth are not worthy of your brilliance. You are the brightest star, my dear, someone accepting and embracing of it all. Do not settle for anyone that is blind to your light.)

Pisces —

And how terrible it must be for you, who lives always halfway, to be stuck in a world that demands certainties which you will never have to give. It is not to say you don’t want to be resolute – you simply cannot. Your world does not have truth, nor does it have falsity; all that your world has are colors, swirling, forever mingling anew like the clouds in the sky. One day you are overflowing with everything that blooms inside of you, and lilies are spilling out of your ribs; the next, you’re empty, and you can’t for the life of you find something that is all-encompassing enough to fill the growing abyss south of your sternum. (Kknow that it is okay. The most humane thing you can be is full of contradictions;  as maddening as it can be, each paradox gets you closer to the entity your peers call God. It was never the Devil that built his home on the crossroads, you know. Embrace your nature.)

Bound to Happen (Part 1), Lin-Manuel Miranda x Reader

Prompt: The chronicles of being Lin’s assistant to maybe something more.

Author’s Note: Title taken from a quote from Donna, that their relationship was ‘bound to happen sometime’. Heavily based off of West Wing, if you never watched it, sorry, but I hope you’re still able to enjoy this.

You knew you shouldn’t have gone out with the girls last night. The slightest breeze had you nearly doubled over in hungover induced pain. Still, Lin needed you.

The Richard Rogers Theater door slammed behind you, a long groan echoing from you and a few girls who had found home on the cold floor of the stage. Their cheeks were pressed against the cement in an attempt to ease their aching heads and bones with little relief.

Hey!” Karen stood at the other side of the stage, completely unaffected by the literal bottles of liquor she had consumed only hours ago. “Is Lin here yet?”

Her eyes were narrowed and her arms were crossed around her chest. She tried not to show it, but she was pissed.

“I’ll let him know you’re looking for him.” You offered, watching her hair swish as she sauntered off. If there was one person you certainly didn’t need on your bad side as your brain pounded for relief, it was Karen.

A glance at your watch confirmed the time and you knew Lin would be turning onto the block right about now. You hustled backstage, pouring coffee into a to-go cup along with the appropriate amount of sugar and milk.

Balancing coffee in your hand and a memo pad in another, you made your way back outside the theater. Shielding your eyes from the glaring morning sun, you watched as Lin skipped down the block in your direction.

“Karen’s looking for you.” You told him as soon as he was in earshot.

“Huh?” Was his intelligent response, readjusting the strap on his backpack.

“Karen is looking for you.”

“Usually ‘good morning’ is an approved greeting for this time of day.” He continued his trek past you.

Good morning.” You forced, head continuing to pound incessantly.

“What’s up?” He stopped at the door when you made no move to follow him.

“Karen is looking for you.” You repeated, eyes threatening. “I’m saying that Karen is looking for you.” Your eyes shined a threatening glance at the importance.

“Oh shit.” He sighed, wishing he hadn’t come in today, let alone be breathing in a world where he had pissed off Karen Olivo, “What did I do?”

You shrugged, offering him the cup of coffee.

“What’s this?”

Coffee,” You gestured to the little logo of a steaming cup on the side, “Says so right here.”

“No, why did you get me this? You never bring me coffee.” He finally decided to man up and swing the door open, taking a few hesitant steps into the theater. He glanced around. No Karen in sight.

His eyes shot to you when there was a lack of response. He watched for a moment as you busied yourself with your memo pad, crossing out paragraphs and starring important deadlines.

“Hey.” He nudged your side, gaining your attention, “How long have you worked for me?”

Technically I don’t work for you. I’m your assistant, but you don’t pay me, the theater does.” You eyes were back on your pad, “They certainly don’t pay me enough.” You mumbled, which Lin chose to ignore for this conversation.

“How long have you been my assistant?” He tried.

“Here? Two years.”

“How many times has Karen been upset with me?”

“How many days are in two years?” You tilted your head, attempting quick math in your head.

“Okay, so we can agree Karen is always mad at me. I don’t plan on dying today. At least, not at the hands of Karen Olivo.” He smiled, though you were still unconvinced considering the daggers Karen had glared just minutes ago.

Lin-Manuel Miranda!” Came her shriek, more than likely from across the theater. She was quite the belter.

“This might be my last meal.” Lin visibly deflated, taking a long sip of his coffee as you pushed him in the direction of where Karen had taken off. “When I die today, tell my story.” He shuffled off, leaving you with your list of tasks for the day and an ensemble of women staring at you from the floor of the theater.

“What?”

“Nothing.” Mandy smirked, mid stretch, “Nothing at all.”

You hustled off without a second thought to the looks each of the girls shared. Working with Lin for the years you had were rough and patchy. You went all the way back to college, to the very first drafts of In the Heights. Back when he couldn’t get half a dozen musicians to play his music, let alone fill a tiny theater with people who wanted to watch it.

When it was announced that he would be spearheading the student production with an actual band and an actual cast and an actual creative team, it also came with an opening for an unpaid internship. Needing quick experience to top off your resumes, you applied and were never allowed to look back.

Lin took a liking to you immediately and practically called dibs on you. You were by his side whenever you could be, and when you weren’t he was sneering at whoever took you away.

You never expected him to take you this far - to Broadway. Yet, as you bustled around the theater to make sure nothing would fall apart, you didn’t regret a single second you spent by his side.

Most days were spent doing everything under the sun and more. Setting up appointments, shifting through interview questions and making sure Lin didn’t run himself into the ground.

It was a tough job to say the least, but when you went home several hours after you were supposed to be off, you still had a smile on your face knowing you made someone’s day a bit easier.

Meeting up with Lin before the show was routine, although the air seemed a bit tense after his conversation with Karen. You didn’t push it, knowing that if he wanted you to know about it he would have blurted out every detail the second you walked through the door.

You sat on his dressing room chair as he adjusted his collar in the mirror, eyes heavy but determined. Your pen clicked against his desk.

“Stop that.” He told you, eyes not moving from the mirror before him.

You clicked your pen once more to test the waters. His eyes shot to you in a small glare and you pulled back, not wanting to push him before a performance.

“What do we have?” He asked, settling into his couch and fixing his gaze on you.

You reviewed his schedule, a heavy emphasis on the appearance the cast would be making on Lopez Tonight, the first late night show he had ever been on.

“I have a date that night so I’ll miss the performance, but I’ll be able to see you guys off from here.” You added, quickly moving on to the next item.

“A what?”

“A date. You should really try one sometime. I have at least a dozen names whenever you’re ready.”

Lin rolled his eyes as he pushed away the thought of you having a life outside the theater and why he hadn’t been informed of it. In particular, why he wasn’t a part of it.

“That’s fine.” He said, moving to search through his mini-fridge. “Did you get more-”

“Behind the raisin bread.” You muttered, shuffling through your notes, “And I didn’t ask for your permission. Nor do I need it.”

Uh huh.” He pushed aside the raisin bread, greeted with cups of applesauce. “I should vet this guy, what’s his social security number?”

“He’s a teacher, he’s a nice guy, and he’s taking me out to dinner.”

Lin stuck his tongue out at the positive description.

“You haven’t even met him and you’re tossing him in the trash. At least I give the losers you date a chance.”

“I don’t date los-”

Claire.” You quirked your eyebrow, challenging a comeback.

“Fair point.” He tossed the now empty cup of applesauce just as places were called. “I gotta work. Keep my life going while I’m out there, yeah?” He winked before disappearing, not to be seen again until intermission where he would scarf down whatever lunch you picked up for him.

He would surely be dead without you there.

———

The blinding lights and bustling streets of New York only seem like background noise to you at this point in your life. You’ve lived here since you graduated college, and it hasn’t been as bad as you’d originally thought. Sure, the towering skyscrapers and ceaseless shouting or honking outside of your apartment was much different than the silent cricket chirps outside of your family’s home back in Missouri, but it was a much needed change.

In fact, living in New York has changed your life completely. You were still the same kiddo from the small country town back home, aspiring to do great things. You still said “y'all”. You still lived off of sweet tea. You still had all of your little traits you’d gained from growing up there. But once you hit New York? “Culture Shock” was really the only way to describe it.

It seemed like you were never alone in the “City that Never Sleeps”. The streets were never empty, the lights glaring from the billboards outside of your window were your new night stars, and you always saw something new everyday. It’s was probably one of the best places for you to be with your dream job; writing. A new thing seen on the side of the street fueled a new song lyric, a new poem, a new story, and new something. You were constantly jotting stuff down in your favorite black notebook, usually adding to your current project; a musical.

“Hey, Y/N, do you want me to go get you something before you leave for the airport?” Your roommate’s voice inquires from the opposite side of the dining room table, her head resting in her hand defeatedly from her work. You don’t even bother to peal your eyes away from your page, frantically scribbling down yet another lyric for one of your main characters. “Nah, I’ll probably just grab something quick on the way to the airport. Thanks though, Ky.” She raises an eyebrow at you, obviously doubting that you will. “Uh huh. Like all of those other times that you’ve said that you’ll get something to eat on the way out, and proceed to not go out, continue to write in that stupid notebook of yours, and stay up until I wake up the next morning?”

“Okay okay, you’ve got me there.” You breathe, allowing for her to pull the black leather bound pages away from you. “But what can I say, Ky? I’m basically a writing machine, I just can’t help it. There’s too many ideas locked up inside of my mind to not write them all down. I wanna share them with the world!”

“You can keep writing about those silly little characters you’ve got after you eat something, Y/N. There’s my leftovers in the fridge I’ll let you have if you eat them right now.” Kylie offers, gesturing to the stainless steel door behind her. “Yeah yeah, okay. No need to blackmail me here.” You retort, rolling your eyes and nudging her aside. Slipping your hand around the cool handle, you yank the door open and pull out the white styrofoam box, ready to devour it in order to keep writing. “You never talk to me about anything besides your stupid musical now, Y/N. I wanna talk about other stuff.” Kylie huffs, flopping into the wooden chair across from yours at the table.

“That came out of nowhere.” You chuckle, settling back into your spot, this time eating instead of writing. “I know, but I feel like you’ve just been kinda distant lately. I don’t think you’ve actually talked to me about your life for at least a month-oh my god you’ve never talked to me about your love life. Tell me. Now.” Kylie gushes, her eyes widening at the thought of not knowing. “I’ve never talked about it because it’s non-existent.” You joke through a mouthful of a quesadilla. “When was your last relationship?” She questions, her eyebrows furrowing slightly with concern. You simply shrug. “Last kiss?” “Never had one.” “Last time you were in love?!” “Does the kid I hated in 1st grade count?”

“Oh my god, why have you never told me that you’re helpless?!” Kylie cries, flailing her hands around frantically. “I didn’t realize that my love life was a big deal to you?” You snort, suddenly reconsidering if you should’ve just lied to her and said you had a boyfriend. Wow, that actually did make you sound really lonely. Nice going. “Um, hello?! Being in love is one of the-no, IS the best feeling in the world?!”

“Love is a choice, not really an emotion, KyKy.” You correct, gently pointing your fork at her in correction. Or at least, that’s what you’ve always known it as. Throughout high school, you saw relationship after relationship go strong for a solid three months, and then crash and burn because the “feeling just wasn’t there” and they’d already moved on to a new lover. You never understood how people could just hook up because of “a feeling”, and then not try to fix it if they thought it was that important. It’s always seemed like it should be an effort from both parties, not just “run with this instinct”. That and everyone in your school were a bunch of idiots.

“Wow. Okay I need to take you out with me sometime, you’re going to get a boyfriend to call your own.” Kylie breathes, making it sound like it’s going to be a hassle. “Hey! I’m perfectly lovable, thank you very much.” You snap, narrowing your eyes at her. “Oh are you now, little Miss No-Love-Life?” She throws back just as quickly. “By the sounds of it, you really aren’t.”

“Well it’s not just that nobody’s ever had a crush on me, I can name off a couple. It’s a matter of them not sharing the same ideals and such as me.” “Oh, please do go on. I’m curious of what these ideals could possibly be.” Kylie teases, leaning into her hands playfully.

“Simple. None of them have ever understood my love for writing, how I need to throw my thoughts onto paper, how I want too make something out of thin air.” There were a couple of people from high school you can remember having a bit of a thing for you, but at the same time you can remember how you cast them away way too quickly when you got to know them. In retrospect, you were probably kinda cruel to them, but you’ve always stood by what you learned from growing up. Your stubbornness wasn’t about to give in on the one thing that you’ve always loved.

“Oh, so you want someone who’s just as insane as you about writing, so that you two can die together because you forgot about your needs for survival? Got it.” Kylie laughs, still in disbelief that guys had crushes on you. “Whatever, Ky. Just give me my notebook back already, I’ve gotta get going.” You fume, shoving the empty takeout box at her from across the table. “Okay, geez. Didn’t know you were such a crabby person when you’re away from your paper.” She sighs, handing back your notebook. “Most people would get upset if you held their child hostage.”

“Wow, you really are obsessed with that thing, aren’t you?”

“Goodbyeeeee Kylie.” You draw out, wrapping your hand around the handle of your luggage, and tossing your backpack over your shoulder as you head for the front door. “Waitwaitwaitwait.” She fumbles, racing towards you. She wraps her thin arms around you, embracing you tightly. “Stay safe, Y/N. And find yourself a boyfriend while you’re at it.” You roll your eyes jokingly and hug back, the resentment from moments ago melting away.

“Okay, now get going you lug. I want the apartment to myself for as long as I can get.” Kylie finishes, gently pushing you out the door and into the complex’s hallway. “Whatever. I’ll see you in two weeks, you snot.” You call back, rolling your bag towards the elevator.

Tucking an earbud into your ear, you bury your phone into your pocket and pull you pencil out from behind your other ear, already jotting some more stuff down about your main characters and their backgrounds. Maybe have them meet at a party? No, that’s too High School Musical-y. Maybe in the park? Meh, cliché. What about if they just run into each other somewhere-literally run into each other? That’s a good one, adds to the comedic effect. Would their best friends push them back together? Is there going to be a huge fight, or will there be a tragedy for one of them that makes the super withdrawn? Why not both? Will one of them die in the end? Will one of them leave and fall for someone else? Will there be a happily ever after-ew no. Happy endings always happen by happenstance, and it’s just not logical. That doesn’t happen in the real world. No happy endings.

Thoughts continue to flood through your mind and onto the paper as you hit the outside of your apartment building and whistle for a taxi, hoping that one stops within the next five minutes. Luckily, the first one manages to see you and pulls over, letting you climb in the back. The driver’s gruff voice calls to you, “Where ya headed?”. “JFK.” You quickly respond, scratching something out on another page just to rewrite the idea. “Ya don’t sound like yer from ‘round here, little lady. You headed back home or sometin’?” He asks curiously, his voice rather warm and inviting, like your favorite uncle or something.

“Is it that easy to tell?” You laugh, forcing yourself away from your journal for a little bit to keep a conversation with him. “Trust me, lil’ lady, I’ve had ma fair share of outta-towners in this her’ girl. Ya sound kinda southern, but not really. Midwest maybe?” He guesses, tilting his dark sunglasses down to look at you from his rearview mirror. “You’re good.” You nod, smiling at his correct answer. “That’s what I thought.” He smirks, pushing his sunglasses back up the bridge of his nose. “Anytin’ in particular yar’ leavin’ for?”

“Nothing more than returning home for a couple of weeks at this point. Maybe busting with some old friends, who knows.” You answer distantly, the thoughts of what could happen at home overcoming you for a moment. There’s so many people you haven’t seen in what feels like forever. And you haven’t seen your dog in ages, either. “Simple 'nuff. Wish I could go back home fer’ a lil’ bit, ya know? Get ta visit with ma Nana again, see how she’s been doin’.”

“How long has it been since you’ve gone home?” You question, taking in his features as you do so. A bit larger, receding hairline pretty evident, dark sideburns, and an impressive beard to match. They all seem to fit his voice perfectly. “Uh, let’s see her’. Probably when I graduated, so… Eleven ye-nah, that’s too short. Probably somewhere closer ta fifteen or so, s'uppose.” He draws out, scratching his curly beard. “Fifteen years?!” You instinctively blurt out, instantly regretting it. “Ya, I’ve been stuck up her’ in da Big Apple fer’ a long while now, ya know? I just haven’t really given myself a chance ta get outta her’. Glad ya can, doh. Helps lift ma spirits a bit, seein’ ya off.”

“Speakin’ a which, her’ ya are, lil’ lady! The famous plane port of da Big Apple!” He presents, parking the cab along the curb next to the front entrance. You blink a bit, taking in the sudden appearance of the airport and its towering parts. “Oh wow. We got here fast. How much do I owe you?” You start pulling your wallet out of your backpack, but a gentle, calloused hand sets itself on your shoulder. Slightly confused, you turn towards the front seat, only to be greeted by the same smiling face as before.

“No charge fer’ ya, lil’ lady. It’s been a bit since I’ve had a good ol’ conversation with someone, ya know? Ever'one her’ is always in a rush and snappy, wantin’ ta get somewhere quick. Thank ya for given ma a good laugh today.”

You don’t know how to respond. Your mouth has opened to try and deter him, but nothing comes out, which only makes his grin wider and more toothy. “Now get a move on, lil’ lady. Don’t want ya ta be a missin’ dat flight of ya’s cuz’ I’m bein’ nice.”

Flabbergasted, you slowly climb out of the backseat and onto the sidewalk, bag and notebook in hand, and watch the dandelion yellow taxi pull away, leaving a thin cloud of exhaust in its wake. You glance down at your watch, the minute hand hovering over the 6 is all the indication you need to start booking it to your gate.

Weaving between as many people as you can while still jotting stuff down about that taxi driver in your notebook, you hurry across the airport, trying to multitask and catch your plane all in due time. It’s not as hard as you thought it would be, considering everyone was clearing a path for you as you plowed towards them.

Well, except one person.

Your notebook goes clambering to the glossy tile floor as you topple to the ground, your backpack slipping off of your shoulder and your luggage rolling out of reach. Your back crashes against the hard ground, and your lungs collapse in on themselves for a moment on impact. Thank god you had the wind knocked out of you for a second, because if you hadn’t, you probably would’ve said something utterly embarrassing about the rather cute guy on top of you, his face inches from yours.

“Oh shi- I’m so sorry! Here lemme-uh-…” He fumbles, trying to push himself off of you as quickly as possible without making it more awkward. He manages it, (somehow), and offers you a hand, which you take, a bit dazed from the impact still. Wow, he’s stronger than he looks. “Uhhh…” He sounds off, awkwardly brushing some invisible dust off of your clothes. “Sorry about that. I get kinda caught up in my head sometimes.”

“No, it’s fine, I do too. I should’ve looked where I was going in the first place.” You apologize, leaning down to pick up your notebook. “Oh, let me get that for you.” He instantly states, snatching it up in his hands. “Huh, this one looks like the one I have.” He chuckles slightly, patting his pocket for a second before going into a panic. “Wait, where is my notebook?” He stammers out, spinning around to look for it.

“Oh, is this it?” You ask, picking up an identical notebook to yours next to your slightly rolled away luggage. His face immediately softens at the sight of it, his eyes almost brightening. “Wow, we really are a mess, huh?” He laughs nervously, swapping notebooks with you.

“Y/N.”

“Lin.”

A single best of silence passes between the two of you, before your watch beeps at you. You glance down to it to see that your flight leaves in five minutes, and panic washes over you. “Sorry Lin, but I don’t wanna miss my plane. Nice talking to you!” You shout over your shoulder as you take off in a dead sprint for your exit, which is now within sight.

Frantically waving down the flight attendant like in the movie Home Alone, she graciously reopens the door to the plane for you, and you quickly take to your seat, pushing your carry on into whatever overhead space you can find.

The seatbelt light flickers on overhead, and you try to settle into place. Luckily, not many people are on the flight to St. Louis, so you have the row to yourself. The flight attendants flow into the isle to do their normal routine of safety, but you tune them out and set your notebook on your lap, digging out a pencil from your backpack, ready to write again. That taxi driver really gave you a new idea for a character that helps advance the plot of your musical.

Flipping open to a random page, you skim over everything, trying to find the right area to start again. Let’s see, Laurens and Hamilton have a thing for each other, Angelica has a thing for Hamilton, Jefferson is a magenta ass-wait. Since when did you have a Laurens? Or a Hamilton? Or an Angelica? Or a Jefferson? When did they all develop a thing for each other? This handwriting doesn’t look like yours, it’s too nice for scribbles.

You thumb through the other pages, becoming more and more frantic as you see the same penmanship sprawling across the other yellowing pages. Where did all of your work go?! When did it get replaced with this- this- what do you even call this?!

Then it hits you. The clumsy yet cute man that tackled you. The awkwardness of the encounter. The panic over notebooks.

Oh no.

Lin has your notebook.

And you have his.

Dreams do come true

Enjoy :)

Sleepy Harry was your favourite Harry without any doubt. The angelic sight of his peaceful countenance invaded by wild locks of hair scattered here and there, the gap his heart-shaped lips created when they parted and the faint snores that came out of them were some of the reasons you left the rest of sleep and woke up earlier.

You would always watch as his facial expressions made a perfect description of whatever went through his mind while dreaming. This time, doing again so, you admired as his serene look changed to a dimpled grin and unintelligible mumbles spilled out of his mouth. He fumbled for your figure to capture it between his strong arms, and now, having him that close, you were able to decode a sentence in the sea of mutters he let out, a sentence that went straight to your heart “My beautiful little family.”

The sunrays filtering in the room through the curtains made their way through his eyelids, as he fluttered them open. It was just a matter of time, and the feeling of your fingertips stroking gently at his hair, for him to fully wake “Morning love.” You didn’t answer back verbally, instead, you placed a kiss on his chin. “I had the best dream ever” “Really? What was it about?” He let go of his grip to meet your eyes and you saw a special enthusiasm in them as he began his speech. “It was father’s day and we were in bed commenting on, you know, how the day went and stuff like that; when you suddenly left the room just to return a few minutes later with a little wrapped box. I said to you it wasn’t my birthday nor any special day, at least for me, and you told me to open it anyways. The thing is there was this little note which said ‘Happy father’s day Daddy! The delivery service delayed so your present will arrive in nine months. See you then!’  I immediately realised what that meant and began to cry, even more than the baby would after being born!” You chuckled at his joke. He intertwined hands with you and uttered his next sentence in a whisper “It felt so real, so magical”

Harry had perfectly clear he wanted you to be the mother of his future kids. He loved you with every bit of his being and couldn’t wait any longer to create a baby from your mutual love. The idea had been wandering around his mind for a few months, but lately that days the want didn’t do anything but to increase, to the point that it would even show up in his dreams.

You didn’t plan on telling him that morning.

“Baby, what if I told you your dream not only felt real but was real?” You watched as a frown made its home in his face when confusion invaded him, and couldn’t help but giggle due to the look he had “What?” “Okay, I was wrong. In your dream you were faster to grasp the insinuation” He sat up and tilted his head “What do you-” He didn’t get to finish the sentence, as realisation finally hit him “Oh my… no” Eyes wide opened and mouth “o” shaped he shook your arm in impatience, wanting you to confirm the news to let out a reaction “Is it for real!?” Your eyes were already watery when you nodded frantically “Yes Hazz, I’m pregnant… we’re having a baby!” “W- we a-are having a baby?! O- oh my… WE’RE HAVING A BABY!” He jumped off of bed in excitement and leaned to grab your hands, spreading kisses all over them “Love, you’ve made me the happiest man in the world. The love of my life is giving me a baby! thank you so much” Tears of joy slided down his face, he cupped your cheeks kissing you gently and whispering repeatedly ‘thank you.’

He slided down to your tummy and lifted your shirt “Hello sweetie, I’m Daddy. Mommy just told me you are inside that cute belly of hers. Can’t wait to have you in my arms. You both are my greatest gifts” You didn’t know if it were the hormones that were already acting or it was you but the tears didn’t ceased from streaming down your face when he talked to the blessing creating inside you.

Harry rested beside your belly, snuggling it. You brushed his hair as you admired the sight of the love of your life whispering sweet nothings to your other love

“I still can’t believe I’m gonna be a dad”

“Well you’d better believe it, because baby Styles is on its way!”

Princess of Themyscira: Part 2

AN: It was decided on twitter that I would publish this today. I had a lot of fun writing it! Enjoy.

Words: 1299

Part One

You watch from a distance. You watch the sparing in the middle of the ring, and the groups of women that watch it only mildly interested. You move your feet ever so slightly, and the skirt of your dress makes a slight swishing sound. You miss your jeans.

Opening your book you ignore the chatter around you, and try to focus on the words. It’s a bit difficult to understand, you know very little greek. Only the few phrases your mother had taught you through your life. Your grandmother had insisted on a more formal education.

In the six months since you’d come to your new home, you’d been immersed in your studies. You’d learned greek, and the amazon’s history. You hadn’t however, made any friends.

Despite your grandmother’s protests your mother's’ sisters avoided you. If you entered a room, then they left. It stung more than a little bit. As the fighting got louder, and as a result the cheers, you gave up on your book. Leaning back against the column you gave the fight your full attention.

Artemis was someone who liked to win. She was strong and fierce, and she reminded you of your mother in that way. She also tended to be cruel at times. She showed no mercy, and even littler patience. You avoided her to the best of your ability.

As she once again claimed victory you slipped away. Your rooms were near your grandmothers. On most nights she would join you in them, and tell you stories of the Amazons, and of your mother. Tonight however, she was dining with some of her sisters. You had been invited, and carefully rejected the offer.

You collapse on your bed and watch the sun set. When the darkness envelops your room, you shred your dress, and make your way to the locked trunk on the other side of the room. You remove the key from around your neck and unlock it. You carefully remove the workout clothes you had brought from home, and slip them on.

You take a moment to look at the other things in the truck. Other clothes, pictures, and important documents. You close the lid, before you let your mind wander into the past. Dressed and ready you slip from your room and into the surrounding woods.

Your parents had never wanted you near the fighting. They had never wanted you to follow in their footsteps. But being a Wayne, being Batman and Wonder Woman’s daughter brought a special kind of danger to your life that could never be escaped.

Your father had taught you how to move, how to escape and how to hide. Your brother had taught you how to fight. The lessons had been hard and unforgiving, but then again, everything Damian did was that way.

He’d always had sense for these kind of things, of what the future would hold. Unlike what most people thought, Damian was actually a very caring older brother. At least he had been to you. Something to do with blood relation.

All your brothers had spoiled you though. You’d been the baby. Their sister. The one who was never supposed to go through what they had. Yet here you were, running through the jungle on an Amazon island protected my magic.

You run until your legs go weak, and your lungs burn. You go until you just want to collapse. And you do right into the sand. It’ll be pain to wash out of your hair, and an even bigger pain to run back in. But you don’t care. The feel of the sand, and the sound of the waves brings you a bit of peace you hadn’t had earlier.

“You still cling to man’s world.”

You want to curse at the sound of the voice. Any peace you had achieved flies out the window as your body goes tense. You crack open and eye to stare at Artemis. She’s dressed in the same outfit she had been fighting in earlier. There’s still blood on it.

You let out a sigh, “They smell like home.”

“This is your home now.”

You stare up at the woman for a moment, before sitting up, “Could have fooled me.”

“And what is that supposed to mean?”

“That you don’t want me here. That I come from man’s world, and I am a taint upon your precious Amazon blood.”

You see the fire rise in her eyes at the statement, “And who told you that, tell me and I will cut them down.”

You quirk an eyebrow in surprise, you had heard the statement in passing. You weren’t even sure who said it, and to be honest you didn’t care. You’d grown up being the target of every tabloid imaginable. You knew how to ignore things that weren’t true.

Standing up you brush the sand off the best you can before saying, “It doesn’t matter.”

She reaches out and grabs your shoulders, “It does matter you are our sister.”

You eye the hands on your shoulders, and you feel the first flare of anger, as you grip her wrist and twist. You pin her arm to her back, and you’re certain that you can only keep the hold for the few seconds you do, because she’s stunned. She quickly breaks it and turns to face you.

You circle each other for a minute before you both charge. What follows is a knock down, drag out fight. By the end of it you’re both lying on the sand panting. You’re bother battered and bruised, but you’re far worse off than she is. And the only thing you can think, is that you would have made Damian proud.

“You fight well young one.”

You turn your head, wincing as you do so to stare at the woman. She’s already sitting up, and she’s grinning.

You look back to the night sky, “My brother taught me how.”

“And what has happened to him.”

“I don’t know. That’s the worst part. I don’t know if my brothers are dead or alive. Or what’s happening to my friends. It’s the unknown that haunts you.”

Artemis stays quiet for a minute before saying, “I’m sorry that I can’t help you know.”

You laugh, and then groan, “I’m sorry for attacking you.”

“You have spirit little one.”

You smile at the woman, before turning back to the sky. The two of you stay there staring at the stars until the sun breaks through. You don’t talk to the woman for several days after. To be honest you kind of avoid her.

But Artemis is stubborn, and she tracks you down. You’re reading in a tree when that first arrow sores past your head, and embeds itself in the bark. You stare down at the crazy woman whose shot had drawn a fair amount of attention.

“Come little one, it is time for your lesson.”

You do your best to hide behind your book, until you feel the tree shake as she climbs up it. She sits on the branch in front of you and simply says, “You can not spend all your time in books. It would be a dishonor on your mother, and your brother who taught you.”

You continue to stare and she simply says, “You’re small, but you’re crafty. While a direct approach may not work well, a long distance one will. For that you will need a bow and arrow. May your aim be true.”

And between the seriousness of Artemis’ statement and thoughts of Oliver Queen and Roy Harper all you can do is laugh. Because you know your father is turning in his grave. And despite that you take hold of the bow and follow your sister through the now gathered crowd towards the practice field.

“I love him. But he doesn’t know(s) But it doesn’t matter. Because he loves her.”

PART 1

Yoongi moved out from the apartment a few days after that the two of you had the fight. Or the confession.

He went back to being cold and didn’t say a word and although you were glad he didn’t, you still wished that everything somehow went back to how it was. How it was before you dug in too deep.

You stood outside his now empty room and looked around. You had never seen his room. Not even once since he always locked the door even if he was at home. But now standing there, the wonder about how his room looked like was still in your head.

Was it as cold and dark as him, with a black desk, black chair and black blankets? Did he throw his dirty clothes on the floor until the whole floor was covered with stinky socks and shirts that smelled like him?

The room you had tried to sneak into so many times was now standing there, empty with nothing but a key that he had left behind, on the floor.

He had left without even telling you about that. The key that you had given him on the first day when he first moved in wasn’t given to you on his last day. He had left it on the floor because he was avoiding you. And for once, you were happy he was.

Your days went and came, faster than you’ve ever imagined that time would be. It had already been a year since the last time you saw him.

There was no point in lying - you had been extremely careful with going out and accidently bump into him. But fortunately, that hasn’t happened although you’ve been working at The Face Shop, knowing exactly who the woman he was so deeply in love with was.

Ji Hyo was everything you were not. Her slim, model like figure made you look down to your own and wonder why the hell you haven’t been paying attention to take care of yourself more. Her face could light up a whole room when your face seemed to shut down an entire house. Her genuine way of talking, smiling, touching and even doing nothing could make any man pause what they’re doing, just to look at her.

Yoongi was right. You weren’t her and you were never going to be her.

You wanted to hate her. But she didn’t even know you beside the fact that you were her employee and friend. She was even the best boss you have ever had, how could you hate her? She didn’t know that you were in love with someone who loved her. She didn’t know any of that although the two of you had grown to be great friends.

Perhaps that’s why, when she came that day, smiling brightly with a man you haven’t met for a year, holding his hand and walking right to where you were seated, it finally hit you straight in the face that you should’ve told her. Or left before that.

His eyes were intense, staring right through you. In your head, you wished that this was all a dream. I fucking nightmare.

“Hey Y/N! I want to introduce you to my boyfriend.” Fuck.

It wasn’t a dream, a nightmare. It was reality. As you stood up, your eyes moved from Ji Hyo’s face to his stone hard face before they moved down to their locked hands. His eyes never left you as much as you wished they could.

“This is Yoongi, my boyfriend of five months.” She said, turning to face him with the biggest grin on her face before she turned to you, still smiling. “And this is a close friend of mine, her name’s Y/N.” You didn’t meet his eyes although you knew that he was still staring at you. You could feel his eyes burning holes on your skin.

“Hey guys,” you snap your head to meet Ji Hyo’s worried look and you felt bad for not even being able to look at her and be honest about how you feel.

You wanted to tell her that you had gone through four years of developing feelings for him, to only have him break your heart a year ago and still, a year later, seeing him still made your heart flip and skip a beat.

You wanted her to know that there was no love stronger than the love he had for her, because that was exactly the love you felt for him. You wanted to let her know that he had missed her all these years, the same way you had missed him, all these seconds, minutes, hours, days, weeks, months and years with and without him. You needed her to know that he had been needing her this whole time, just as much as you still needed him like you needed him yesterday and the days before that day. You wanted her to know that the look he had in his eyes whenever he looked at her was because he wanted her to be his and unfortunately, that was the exact same way you looked at him.

“We’re going out for lunch. You want to go out and grab something to eat with us?” The question is from Ji Hyo and she’s asking you. But you didn’t answer right away because could see him in the corner of your eyes, he tensed up just by the mention of spending time with you.

“No it’s fine. I still have some things to do and I’m not that hungry. You go ahead and enjoy your lunch without me.” You avoided his eyes the whole time that you were talking, only giving him a fast glance to see that he was still looking at you, just like he had done since the moment his eyes landed on you.

“You sure?” You nodded, letting her know that you’re sure about staying.

“Wait here babe, I’ll just go and grab some things before we leave.” She pressed a short kiss onto his lips before disappearing to her office, leaving you with him. Or him with you. It doesn’t matter because right then, everything you could see was him. Your heart skip over a few beats and it got harder to control your breath.

“Yoongi.”

His name left your mouth as if you had been dying to say his name but it still felt familiar although you hadn’t said that name for over a year, out loud.

“Y/N.” The way he said your name was hard, as if he was trying to not let any emotion get through his lips.

“How are you? It’s been a while.”

“I’m great. You?”

“I’m fine.”

You looked away for a few seconds after that before you faced him again.

“Are you happy? Happier now?” You asked him because that’s the only thing you wanted a proper answer to. If he was happy and not as moody like he used to be. If she made him happy.

It took a while for him to answer but when he did, it’s like everything you’ve ever done to him means nothing at all. Absolutely nothing. “Yes. I’m happy, Y/N. I’m happier than I’ve ever been.” You took in a deep breath and shut your eyes tightly, mostly to prevent the tears to leave your eyes.

You should’ve known better and stopped right after that to stop yourself from breaking any further. But you didn’t because again, just like a year ago, you pressed the buttons until it was too late to regret it.

“Does she make you happy?” You didn’t even know why you asked him that. Of course she made him happy.

“She makes me feel like I own the world, Y/N. Something I didn’t think that I could feel, with anyone, until her. She brings out the happy and bright side of me that I didn’t know existed, until her. She can make my day hundreds of times better just by a simple action or a simple word. And there’s no need for her to say that she loves me because just by having her and telling her, letting her know that I love her is enough.” His eyes soften as they look into yours when you finally open your eyes.

It felt like a year ago all over again. It felt like you were in your apartment, listening to every word he had to say about her. How much he loves, misses, needs and wants her. It felt like you were brought back to the scene where you first got your heart broken and it felt like although it wasn’t even fully healed, it just broke a little more than last time.

“So to answer your question and to all the unquestioned questions, I love her, despite the fact that I know that it won’t last forever. But I’m taking risks with her because that’s everything I’ve been doing since I first laid my eyes on her four years ago. Because that’s what you do when you love someone, right?”

You didn’t realize until then that he was you and you were him because what he felt for her could be described as your own feelings for him. You realized then that you still loved him and were going to love him for a long, long time, despite the fact that you were never going to have him. You took risks when it came to him. You pushed him too far and you pulled him to near, not realizing that all he ever needed was her and not you.

Because that’s what you do when you’re desperate for love.

And that’s what you do when you see him smiling the moment he sees her again.

And that’s what you do when your heart break some more when you see them kiss while they wait for the elevator.

And that’s what you do when you finally break down on the ground, sobbing and crying.

Because that’s what you’ll always do, just like how he always does it when it comes to her.

WOW.

I’ve never got so many positive comments about an one shot before and wow, WOW, you guys are unbelievable! I have know idea how I should thank you but THANK YOU SO MUCH! Reading every message that I got from each one of you was one of the most beautiful moments of my writing-experience.

I’m so grateful, happy and lucky to have such wonderful readers and I’m so thankful to those who had showed their appreciation for me.

I know this isn’t happy ever after - but those who has read my works know that 80% av my works won’t be a happy ever after. I hope you enjoyed reading this although it wasn’t fluffy like I know you wished that it was. But I feel like this is their destiny. It’s how things are between them.

The place you hid in was cold. But you missed it dearly, or rather, the real version of it that you’d grown to love. Not this dystopian, crumbling version. No, certainly not.

You heard voices sometimes, but you believed them to be purely in your head.

There was no way you could hear Will, or Jonathan or even Joyce, not when you were so far away from them. You put it down to hiding in their house, staying there obviously was affecting your mental health combined with this world you seemed to have been dragged into.

You’d ran, and ran and ran. Away from the thing that had brought you here. You’d barely made it alive. It had run after you for ages, constantly on your tail. But you made it into Jonathan’s house, the only place that had come to mind for you to go. Needless to say, you were broken when you got there and found it to be empty, although you’d known deep down that it would be.

You missed talking to people. Going to the cinemas and seeing films with Nancy and Steve, walking in the forest with Jonathan taking photos of you. You especially loved the walks. Playing D&D with the boys, and dramatically acting out the game for them whilst Will told it. You missed sitting in the Byer’s kitchen on a morning, watching as Jonathan prepared breakfast for his family still with sleep in the corner of his eyes.

You were currently sat at that table, or where it should be anyway. There were slight differences between wherever you were, and back home. Like the table in the middle of the kitchen that was broken and smashed to bits around the room. It was never daytime here either and there was no concept of time, all the clock handles just spun constantly or the numbers stayed on 00:00. So you slept whenever you felt like it and as best as you could, considering you also had to keep a watch out for the monster coming back. You heard screams once, faint and very far away from where you were but they still terrified you. They were short-lived and you knew the monster had gotten the poor bastard.

You got bored easily as well, so you liked to go around and count things in the house. The number of paintings, walls, corners of a room, lightbulbs. You would sing as well, usually something Jonathan would play in his car or a song that Steve would have belted out horribly in the corridor at school in an attempt to embarrass you and Nancy. Stuff like that stopped you from being scared, a distraction from what was out there.

But as you sat in the middle of the room, you watched the clock on the wall and saw something that terrified you even more. The clock stopped turning. Of course, it could just be a battery running out, but you looked at the other clocks and saw that they were all the same. All of them read 6:32, and seemed to work as if they were all in sync with time again.

You didn’t know what it meant, but part of you wondered if it meant your rescue. Another part told you not to be so stupid and get your hopes up. How on earth could the clocks relate to your safety?

You averted your attention from the clocks and shut your eyes, leaning back in the chair. You were so tired, although you weren’t certain, you guessed you hadn’t slept for over twenty hours. The monster had passed by the house not so long ago, dragging something very alive with it. It had been crying anyway and making noises like it was in excruciating pain. You’d hidden in the cupboard under the sink as you heard it scratch around the building.

It left after what you assumed to be five minutes as you’d counted to your best ability.

“Y/N?” A faint voice called to you. You screwed your eyes shut tighter, ignoring it.

“Y/N!” The voice said again, more urgent this time. You continued to ignore it, massaging your temples with the tips of your fingers.

“Shut up.” You mumbled to yourself. The voices were coming back again, but you were determined to block them out.

“Y/N?” The voice was louder now, but again urgent to capture your attention.

“Get out of my head.” You hissed, sitting forward and hunching over yourself. Your head was pounding now, and you could do nothing except curl up in pain.

“Y/N!”

“Y/N, are you here?”

“Get out!” You cried, forgetting about being quiet in case the monster was nearby. The sound of creaking boards met your ears and your head whipped up to look at the kitchen doorway. Lights were shining in the hallway, casting shadows along the floor.

“Y/N?” The voice called through the house, and you realised it wasn’t the voices in your head but rather the voices of the people now in the house. One moment the lights were shining in the hallway, the next they were in your face and blinding you from seeing who was here. You covered your eyes and tried to shield them from the harsh torchlight, wishing you could see the stranger’s faces.

“Y/N! Oh my God you’re here!” Cried a familiar voice. One of the torches was lowered to the floor and someone crouched in front of you, shielding you from the light. But you could now see that the face hiding under a large helmet was none other than Joyce. She had tears in her eyes as she removed the helmet, detaching it from her hazmat suit so she could talk to you properly.

“I can’t believe we found you!” She laughed, pulling you in for a hug. You feebly brought your arms up to hug Joyce, managing a little squeeze. You were so malnourished and weak, yet you hadn’t realised how much so until you felt Joyce’s strong grip holding you.

The other rescuer removed their helmet and you were surprised to see Hopper’s face.

“Hopper?” You questioned, looking to Joyce for answers.

“It’s a story for another time, because right now we need to get you out of here before that thing comes for us.” Hopper barked, pulling his helmet back on and picking up Joyce’s torch.

“H-How did you get here?” You asked as Joyce helped you to your feet, hooking one arm around your waist and letting you lean into her for support. Your legs wobbled dangerously but you kept your ground and began to walk forward with Joyce.

“An open portal, it took a lot of persistency to get here. It wasn’t easy to get access to it.” Hopper explained, opening the front door and checking to make sure the monster wasn’t lurking outside. All clear.

You nodded, trying your best to focus on putting one foot in front of the other successfully.

“Hopper, help me. She’s struggling.” Joyce pleaded, trying to keep you up on your feet as you stumbled, your head going fuzzy as your vision swam before you. You reached your hand out to grab Hopper by the arm but your foot caught on one of the thick roots that covered everything in this desolate world. You crashed to the floor, letting darkness consume you.

——–

You felt warm. For the first time in so long, you could feel warmth seeping into your bones. You were no longer numb from the constant chill of the air. Opening your eyes, you first saw the window to your right with golden sunlight pouring through. Turning your head to the left, you saw the door was open a crack and music drifted through from somewhere. You knew this room. You recognised the large vinyl player, the record albums all stacked up, rolls of camera film strewn over the little bedside cabinet. You wondered if this was all a dream, a sick trick by your mind that would eventually reveal that you were still in that other world. The other place.

You spread your arms out either side of you, stretching and clinging onto the bedsheets for certainty that this was real. You hadn’t been lurched back into the cold, unfamiliar world yet, so you figured this was real. But still…

Climbing out of bed, you noticed you were wearing a thick, cream-coloured jumper and your underwear. Had someone got you dressed for bed?

Your head was still fuzzy so you couldn’t remember clearly, but one memory managed to slip through the haze. Joyce, calling your name into the dark and bright, harsh lights that blinded you. Touching your temple gingerly, you walked barefoot to the bedroom door and slowly opened it a few more inches to look into the hallway.

Empty, but there was definitely music coming from somewhere in the house and singing too. Bad singing.

You stepped out of the room and gently shut the door behind you without it banging. The hallway was bright too, natural light pouring in and illuminating the flecks of dust floating in the air. You walked in the path of the sunlight, loving how warm it felt on the backs of your legs and the fuzzy feeling of the carpet. You noticed a large burnt patch on the carpet, but you decided to leave it alone. You could ask about it later.

It was easy to locate the source of the music and noise that you supposed you would class as singing. It was coming from the kitchen, and as you approached the doorway the smell of a fry up hit your nostrils. It was a whack to the face, the tantalizing smells making your mouth water instantly. You hadn’t eaten in so long; it was a wonder you weren’t near death. But that didn’t matter now, because you could finally smell victory for your growling stomach.

Creeping up to the doorway, you poked your head around, gripping onto the wooden frame for support as you surveyed the scene before you. Everything was there, the table in the middle of the room, the chairs that were placed around it. Joyce and Will who sat minding their own business, Joyce sat reading a newspaper and Will drawing something. The “singing” was coming from Joyce, and you couldn’t help but smile just a little at Will’s disturbed expression.

Looking up from the table you saw someone else standing by the cooker, juggling between pans containing bacon, sausages and eggs.

“Will can you get the orange juice out?” Jonathan huffed, his back turned to you as he cooked breakfast for his mom and brother. Will got up from his seat and went over to the fridge, taking out the juice and kicking the fridge shut with his foot. As Will put the jug of orange juice in the centre of the table he suddenly looked up, the feeling of being watched alerting him to your presence. His face lit up though when he saw it was you stood there.

“Y/N!” He shouted, running around the table to greet you with an excited hug. You bent slightly so you too could hug him fondly, ruffling his hair up which you could remember him hating when you did it. He wriggled free to flatten his hair down, grumbling as he did so. You just smiled at him with a cheeky grin, glad that he was so glad to see you.

Jonathan and Joyce had now noticed you too, and Joyce was on her feet to embrace you too. She smothered you with a firm but caring hug, knowing just how fragile you still were.

“You’re awake! God, I thought you might never wake up.” Joyce sighed with relief, laughing as she took solace in your awakening.

“H-How long was I…” Your throat was hoarse from lack of using it, but Joyce understood what you were trying to ask.

“Four days, honey. Your parents know you’re okay, and they were fine with us taking care of you as they knew you’d have practically around-the-clock care.” Joyce patted your cheek comfortingly and guided you to a seat at the table.

“Hi Jonathan.” You addressed the young male as you sat down, noticing that he had remained speechless as Joyce had spoken to you. He smiled weakly, the dark bags under his eyes very prominent as he acknowledged you. Even in such a tired state, you still found the way his hair glowed in the sunlight and the little creases that appeared at the corners of his mouth when he smiled cute.

“Jonathan made you breakfast too if you’re hungry. He’s made extra for every meal the past few days, just in case you happened to wake up.” Joyce told you, folding her newspaper up whilst she looked at Jonathan with a sly smile.

Will snorted a little as he poured himself a glass of orange juice, earning a light tap on the back of the head from Jonathan.

“Shut up.” Jonathan mumbled, turning back round to serve up the food before it burnt.

“Thank you. It really means a lot.” You told him, although his back was facing you. Jonathan laughed softly as he came over with four plates of food balanced on his arms.

“It’s only breakfast.” He admitted, but you shook your head.

“No, I meant for everything. I noticed you let me use your room, and I’m sorry if that caused any issues.” You apologised, reaching for the jug of orange juice at the same time Jonathan did. Your hands met on the glass handle and you both locked eyes with each other.

“Really, it was no problem. You needed the best care, and I offered for you to use my room.” Jonathan explained, letting go of the jug and taking his hand off yours so that you could have it first.

You didn’t want to sound like a broken record by saying “Thank you” again, so you smiled at him across the table and tried not to let yourself get too worked up about how warm his hand had felt over yours. You couldn’t stop the slight tremble in your hand though.

You managed to eat a fair amount of food, but despite being so hungry you couldn’t keep eating without feeling like you would throw up if you had another mouthful. Will nabbed your leftover piece of toast and when Joyce scolded him you assured her it was fine and slipped him the rest of the food.

“I have to go to work, I’ll be back later today okay? Look after Y/N you two.” Joyce ordered her sons, grabbing her coat off the back of the chair and squeezing your shoulder before she dashed out.

“Will, do the dishes please. I want to talk to Y/N, alone.” Jonathan got up from the table and walked around to your side, offering his hand for you. You put your hand in his and let him help you to your feet, holding onto his hand a little longer than necessary whilst you pushed the chair under the table. Will began to complain but Jonathan told him the quicker they were cleaned the quicker he could go to Mike’s house. This got Will’s attention, and he leapt up from his seat, gathering the plates without any persuasion.

Jonathan led you out of the kitchen and back to his bedroom, shutting the door so he could cut out the noise of Will crashing around the kitchen. You sat on the edge of his bed and messed with the sheets, tracing patterns with your finger.

“I missed you.” Jonathan stated, sitting down beside you. “I was so worried about you, even when you were here. I haven’t slept much.” He admitted, rubbing his eyes as he spoke. You looped your arm through his and leaned into him, resting your head on his shoulder.

“But I’m safe now. I’m okay.” You told him, dragging your fingers up and down the sensitive skin on the inside of his arm. “Will you sleep now?” You asked him. He exhaled slowly, weighing out the probabilities.

“Probably not. Not when I know you could still get hurt and I can’t protect you.” He confessed, placing his other hand over yours which was resting on his arm. He pushed his fingers to interlock with yours and dragged his thumb across your knuckle in slow strokes.

“I missed you too, you know.” You confessed as well. Slowly, pieces of your time in that other world were returning to you. Singing songs by yourself, missing home, missing the walks with Jonathan, wishing you could see Nancy and Steve again.

“Really?” Jonathan asked in surprise.

“Yeah, just the stuff we did together and the car journeys where you’d play your mixtapes of songs you loved.”

“I’ve missed that too.” Jonathan agreed, yawning slightly as he tried to keep his eyes open despite it being the late morning.

“You said you couldn’t sleep knowing you couldn’t protect me if I was at a risk of getting hurt. If you stay in here do you think you could sleep then? I mean, it is your room after all!” You gently coaxed Jonathan to lie on his back, lying by his side with his hand still holding onto yours.

“Maybe.” Jonathan whispered, turning his head so he could look at you from where you both lay down.

“Just shut your eyes, and relax. Focus on something that will keep you calm.” You commanded, also doing what you said so that he wouldn’t feel left out.

“You.” Jonathan murmured to himself as he lay beside you with his eyes closed. You were glad he couldn’t see the blush on your face when he said this, so you continued to speak like nothing had happened.

“Think of something you’d love to do and imagine you’re doing it, something relaxing.” You muttered, wondering how it would feel to have Jonathan huddled against your back, an arm draped over you as he spooned you and kissed the back of your neck softly.

“I am.” Jonathan sighed, a hint of a smile appearing on his face. His cheeks flushed a dark shade of red, obviously embarrassed about whatever had crossed his mind.

“It must be something funny.” You giggled, sitting up on your elbow so you could lean over him. He opened his eyes and the smile only grew wider at the sight of you.

“No, I just got really flustered. It made my tummy feel all warm.” Jonathan beamed up at you, reaching a hand up to stroke your face. The warmth from his touch made the hairs on your arm stand up, your senses going into overload. “I really was worried about you. But, knowing you’re here and safe with me, it kind of makes everything else okay.”

You leaned into Jonathan’s touch, a heat spreading in your chest as the beating of your heart quickened. “I like you Jonathan, I really do. You were always in my thoughts when I was stuck in that horrible place.”

Just the thought of that world made tears spring to your eyes. Jonathan was quick to sit up and slip his arms around you, pulling you close to his chest as you wept into his jumper. “I was so alone Jonathan, it was so alien and unnatural. I had no one.” You confessed, bunching your fist into the woollen material.

“You have me now. That place, the Upside Down it’s called, is gone. You’ll never see it again, because you’re going to be here with me and I’ll be your knight in a denim jacket, armed with my sheer adoration for you.” Jonathan murmured the sweet words in your ear, his lips brushing against your hair as he slowly combed his fingers through. You loved his devotion to the people who mattered to him, and his unwavering commitment towards keeping you safe.

“Jonathan?” You asked, moving so you weren’t hiding your face in his chest and instead you and him were face to face.

“Yes?” He replied, his voice hitching in his throat as he swallowed nervously. The tension between the two of you was palpable as you found yourselves leaning in towards each other. Jonathan gazed at your lips through half-lidded eyes, his gaze lustful as he looked up to lock eyes with you.

“Kiss me.” You whispered, shutting the gap between you both and sealing your lips together in a smooth, ardent kiss. Jonathan couldn’t help the small sigh that escaped his lips when he pulled away for a moment to catch his breath. But you craved more, and he obliged to you pulling him back in to reconnect your mouths. There was a knock on Jonathan’s bedroom door, obviously Will had finished with his job of washing up, so you pulled away.

“Shouldn’t you get that?” You gasped, your chest heavily moving up and down as you found yourself breathless. Jonathan paused for a moment and looked at the door. He shook his head and ignored the knocking.

“I don’t want this to stop.” He muttered, pressing chaste kisses to your lips. But Will’s voice interrupted Jonathan’s trail of kisses from moving to your neck. Jonathan stopped, his lips hovering over your jaw as he slowly exhaled with exasperation. The hot air across your skin made goose bumps rise all over your body.

“Yeah Will?” He called out, his head resting in the crook of your neck.

“Can you take me round to Mike’s now?” Will yelled from outside the room. Jonathan huffed, torn between staying with you and his promise to his little brother.

“Sure, go get in the car and wait for me. I’ll be five minutes.” Jonathan told him, waiting for Will’s footsteps to fade away as he ran off.

“Five minutes?” You arched an eyebrow, smiling as Jonathan pulled you down after him, getting you to lay your head on his chest.

“Just five more minutes.” He sighed, stroking his hand down your back. “Five minutes where I can just hold you and know that you’re mine.”

“Keep this up and you’ll have all the time in the world.” You hummed, shutting your eyes as you listened to the sporadic beat of his heart.

“I hope so.”

You groan and roll your eyes at him which makes him smile.

Y/N: “Wipe that cocky grin off your face.”

Lucien: “Oh, but it works wonders with the ladies! I flash this magical smile and they are done for. Works each time. Wouldn’t you agree?”

He smiles as genuine as he possibly can, and you would have believed him, if you would not be aware of the vicious snake lingering beneath his disguise.

Y/N: “Jesus. Could you be more vain? All I want to do if I see that “magical” grin of yours is punch it into oblivion”

Lucien chuckles and squats down.

Lucien: “You are not scared at all, are you?”

Y/N: “Why should I? This is not the first time I got shanghaied you know. Besides, you don´t scare me. If you´d intended to kill me, I’d be dead by now. So the question is, why am I really here?”

His eyes travel over you for a second, stopping at your eyes.

Lucien:  “Huh. Now I see why Nik is so taken with you, Y/N. You’re smart, strong and extraordinarily beautiful. A rare combination.”
