Parsvottanasana, aka Intense Side Side Stretch Pose, is an intense hamstring and spine lengthener. Adding the reverse prayer helps to open the chest and shoulders as well as strengthen the core and legs as they need to be engaged to hold the balance. This pose helps to calm the mind as it requires full concentration which forces one into the present moment. Join me both Wednesday and Thursday morning for class at the times listed below to start your day feeling present, open and strong. ✨

As someone who came to yoga already very flexible, I used to always take the deepest option of poses, assuming they were the “best” option. But the deepest version of a pose isn’t “the best”, it’s just another version, and not always the one that will feel best on your body that day. For example, when I do Extended Side Angle with my forearm on my thigh I’m able to rotate my chest open to a degree that I cannot get with my hand on the ground. Experimenting with poses helps one to deepen their practice by finding out what works best for them and their own body. Join me @lucentyoga at the times listed below and find out how to get the most from your practice.

Matter without spirit is a corpse. Spirit without matter is a ghost.“ - Marion Woodman

Yoga joins the body and mind, spirit and matter, so that they can function at their highest levels in harmony. By doing yoga you learn to tune into the small nuances of your body, and thus become more mindful of yourself, your actions and everything around you. Hence why so many gain so much personal growth through their practice. Join me on Wednesday and Thursday to explore this gorgeous practice and create a better affinity between your physical and spiritual selves.

King Pigeon is a very beautiful but intense pose. It opens the hips, both front and back, as well as the chest and shoulders, and last but certainly not least opens the spine with a lengthening backbend. Therefore, it can take a good deal of time of regular yoga practice before this pose is achievable because it requires so much flexibility. Join me Monday morning at 9:30am @lucentyoga where we will be moving and opening towards that gorgeous goal.

Bound Squat Pose, aka Ardha Baddha Parivrtta Malasana, is a deep chest and hip opener. The tighter the bind, the more the chest is broadened and the hips and stretched. Bound squat is also the precursor to Standing Marichi Pose. Expect plenty of deep hip openers in both of my classes this weekend listed below. See you there!

The snow may be beautiful, but trudging around in it with the added freezing temperatures makes your body tight and feel out of whack. So join me this weekend in Williamsburg or Greenpoint to realign, let go of workweek stress and perhaps burn some extra calories in advance of the upcoming Valentines’s Day chocolate onslaught. Times and studios listed below.

The earlier you get up, the more time you have in your day to get everything done, which, like yoga lessens stress levels. So, join me Thursday morning at 6:30am @sanghayogashala to watch the sunrise as you open your body and mind to the infinite possibilities of the day ahead. See you there!

Dolphin Push-ups are an old favorite of mine for building arm, shoulder and core strength. A few years ago I used to do them daily to build forearm strength so that my wrists wouldn’t hurt from being on my hands so much. Luckily one of my students reminded me of this, so you may see them woven into my classes this week listed below. Remember…bikini season is around the corner. 💪🏻👙😉

There’s a full moon tonight, peaking through the clouds and stirring up emotions. This is a time to reflect and let go of things and habits that no longer serve us. And then join me Tuesday morning at 7am @tangerinehotpoweryoga to sweat and let go of those emotions and thoughts, opening yourself up to a amazing next couple weeks before the big Eclipse. 🌝💫

Ahhh, the amazing opening sensation of Sun Salutation B, aka Surya Namaskar B, makes me feel like I’m 10 feet tall. With this summer heat loosening our muscles and joints, it’s a great time to see if you can go a bit deeper and get a bit longer in your poses. We will be exploring this idea in my 4:30pm Saturday class @lucentyoga. Get ready to feel expansive!

“The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.” Eleanor Roosevelt
A new moon in Leo is upon us and it’s a time to set in motion new goals, habits, and practices. Now is a great time to start that creative project you’ve been wanting to, or go after that dream job. The world is your oyster as long as you get into action. Join me at 8:30am on Tuesday and Thursday mornings this week @tangerinehotpoweryoga to get your energy moving and bring your best to whatever your heart desires.

Downward Dog Split is an awesome, multi-faceted pose, both a serious stretch as well as strengthener. Also known as Three Legged Dog, this pose opens the chest, shoulders, hamstrings and hips, as well as tones the core and arms. Expect to explore this pose and many more in my weekend classes listed below.

“We delight in the beauty of the butterfly, but rarely admit the changes it has gone through to achieve that beauty.” - Maya Angelou

I’d like to imagine that caterpillars do plenty of yoga inside their cocoons so as to become beautiful, light and expansive butterflies. Yoga has changed me in so many ways for the better, how can it not be the secret ingredient for inner and outer beauty for all beings? Join me on Saturday at the times and studios listed below to see a change within yourself.

Crow, aka Bakasana, is the root of all yoga arm balances and inversions. It can definitely seem scary when you first attempt to balance the weight of your body, on your hands, your face hovering just a few inches from the ground. But with practice, and the knowledge of which muscles to engage (think core), you start to lift and fly and decide that perhaps there are more arm balances in your future. Watching students stick this pose for the first time is always fun as their excitement becomes contagious. Expect to become contagiously excited, and leave feeling strong and open in and after all of my classes this weekend listed below.

Sat 4:30pm - @lucentyoga
Sun 5pm - @sanghayogashala

Plow Pose, aka Halasana, is a relaxing spine lengthener that also opens the chest and shoulders. Plow is fantastic for the thyroid as well, and opens the calves with toes tucked, or the shins with toes untucked. Experience this heavenly pose for yourself in any or all of my classes over the next few days listed below.

Join me @sanghayogashala on Wednesday and Thursday morning at 7:30am for Morning Flow to reset and realign your body and mind.
