Although Fall may bring gorgeous weather, it also brings plenty of sniffles and coughs. My favorite immune system boosting pose is Shoulder Stand (Salamba Sarvangasana). By holding this pose for 2 to 3 minutes lymph is moved throughout the body, picking up any stray bacteria and then dropping it off at the lymph nodes to get destroyed. Bharadvaja’s Twist II, aka Bharadvajasana II, is a calming twist that stretches the spine, shoulders, hips and knees. This pose is fantastic for lower back pain, sciatica and stress. Expect to find yourself in this pose and many more in both my 2pm Core Vinyasa and my 7:30pm Vinyasa classes today @sanghayogashala. See you there!

The Vinyasa, aka the flow from plank to Chatarunga to Updog to Downdog. Even though it is the most common sequence within yoga it can take some time to master as it requires both strength (to do a Chatarunga) and flexibility (to do an Updog). I always remind students to keep their elbows next to their ribs in Chatarunga and to open their chest in Updog. Last but not least it is important to incorporate the breathing into the flow. Therefore you exhale in Chatarunga, inhale into Updog and exhale back into Downward Dog.

Tree Pose, otherwise known as Vrksasana, is one of the most well known yoga poses. As it is a balancing pose it strengthens the legs but it also opens the hips and groin muscles as well. Tree pose is recommended for those suffering from sciatica. Make sure to stand up tall with your navel at your spine and your shoulders back.

It’s been a long week and my favorite way to let go is through deep hip openers. Lizard Pose, aka Utthan Pristhasana, is a fantastic stretch for your hip, groin, hip flexor and chest. Expect to get into your lizard and much more in all of my classes this weekend @sanghayogashala

Reverse Warrior, aka Viparita Virabhadrasana, is a fantastic pose for strengthening the core and legs as well as opening the hips and side ribs. We will be strengthening, opening and lengthening our entire body tonight in my 6:30pm Power Hour Vinyasa class at Sangha Yoga Shala. So throw some yoga clothes in your bag and meet me there after work to start your night off on a positive note. ☺️
