Leprosy

Today we had our first encounter with leprosy. It is heart wrenching to see in person. It is even more gripping to see that virtually nothing at all is being done to support those struggling with the illness.

In 1952 the government (British rule) setup a leprosy camp just outside Alero, Uganda and that is where they still live today. Most have died but a few still remain and have no acsess to medical care.

We traveled with a medical outreach team that is providing support to the most distant and desolate areas of rural Uganda. There they performed check ups and distributed much needed medications.

We were foutunate. A few patients were pleased that we wanted to video tape and were very willing to share their stories with us… in return we gave them soda :) (the gods still must be crazy).
