Leonard Skinner, “arguably the most influential high school gym teacher in American popular culture” according to the NYT, passed away two years ago today. Skinner gained notoriety when southern rock band Lynyrd Skynyrd decided to take his namesake and add a bunch of ys to it.
It seems a physical education teacher named Leonard Skinner didn’t cotton to long hair or loud music. A run-in with him helped get the boys suspended.
