SEAT presented the perfect car for enjoying a dynamic lifestyle. The top version of the Leon range - the Cupra 290 - now delivers a maximum of 213 kW / 290 PS, guaranteeing outstanding performance paired with excellent efficiency. The stunning design, individual equipment options and excellent quality are further points that make the Leon Cupra a very special proposition indeed. In true SEAT fashion, exceptional value-for-money is, of course, a given.

Cupra stands for power, performance, dynamics - and the Leon Cupra fulfils all these promises perfectly. The Cupra 290 with optional DSG transmission catapults from zero to 100 km/h in just 5,7 seconds, and in 5,8 seconds with the manual gearbox. The regulated top speed of 250 km/h is a matter of course. The maximum torque of 350 Newton meters is now available across an even broader rev range from 1,700 to 5,800 rpm and guarantees impressive pulling power in every situation. Against this, the new Leon Cupra 290 is astonishingly efficient. The average fuel consumption for both power variants is just 6.6 litres with DSG and 6.7 litres with the Leon SC manual gearbox. This equates to CO2 figures of just 149 and 156 grams (Leon SC).

Emotional design is a great strength of the Leon family. For the Cupra, this has been developed one step further. The new front end with its large air intakes and full-LED headlamps ensures a powerful look, as do the rear skirt with its diffuser effect and the two oval end pipes. The alloy wheels are exclusive to the Cupra, while the red brake callipers and tinted side and rear windshields underscore its individuality.

Come le versioni berlina e coupè, anche la ST sarà disponibile in versione Cupra, con il 2.0 a benzina con potenze di 265 cavalli o 280 cavalli(in versione 280) mentre la coppia è per entrambe di 350 Nm.

La Cupra 280 copre lo 0-100 in sei secondi con DSG(6,1 con il manuale), mentre la versione normale è più lenta di un secondo, mentre per entrambe la velocità massima è di 250 km\h.

L'auto ha cerchi inediti, kit estetico e interni ripresi dalle altre Cupra, ma il bagagliaio è di 1470 litri con i sedili abbassati e i consumi si attestano intorno ai 6.6 km per litro con il DSG e 6.7 con il manuale.

Thought the Nürburgring hot hatch war had been won by Renault when its Megane Trophy-R eclipsed the Cupra R’s lap time? Seatreckons you should think again. The Spaniard’s front-drive lap record may have been whipped away by the Renault, but the battle doesn’t end there, apparently.

Seat has now added its ‘Ultimate Sub8 Performance Pack’ to the Cupra’s option list, and it celebrates the Leon being the first production front-drive car to lap the Nordschleife in under eight minutes. We imagine the sell would be less clunky had the Seat held onto its record, but nonetheless, its 7m58.4s puts it ahead of all manner of supercar laps of the past.

The fight has restarted thanks to Seat’s boasts about its value. Quite a feat when a Sub8-spec Leon tops £31,000, but the Spanish car maker is keen to point out that it’s around £7000 cheaper than a similarly optioned Renault. [x]
