Is putting in a humbucker for the bridge pickup of a Jazzmaster something that makes sense to do?
If you do this you will be banned for life from our bi-monthly Jazzmaster bitchfests we hold at your local Denny’s on the second and fourth Sundays at 10am sharp, BYOGS. (bring your own Grand Slam)
Just kidding. Plenty of fine folks before you have (gasp!) replaced their bridge pickup with a humbucker, usually to great effect. The good news is that there are a ton of great HB options for Jazzmasters these days, thanks to the likes of Curtis Novak and At-The-Creamery, both of whom are happy to make the humbucker of your choice in a Jazzmaster formfactor so that you have the sound you want with the stock aesthetics as intended by God. (Leo Fender) Look into the PAF-in-Jazzmaster-cover option, or if you want loud, dark clarity, Novak’s Wide Range for Jazzmaster is one of the most glorious things I’ve ever played.
Of course, you also have the option of going crazy and getting a new guard and pickups, so the world is very much your offset oyster. Some time ago, I worked on a friend’s Danocaster with WRHBs and it was the greatest thing ever!
