Nugget Market! (Rocklin)

Not all grocery store bakeries are created equally. Nugget Market is an exception for all you skeptics out there. I personally know people who have worked in their bakeries, and everything they sell is either made from scratch by their bakers, or shipped to them from legitimate bakeries local to the area. Ettore’s, a local Sacramento favorite of mine, is one of their main providers.

That being said, how the hell did we end up here? After getting riled up and flustered after watching Magic Mike XXL at the Studio Movie Grill in Rocklin (best place to watch that movie, by the way), and striking out at Bambu Desserts & Drinks (also in Rocklin), three young women in two different cars, all living in completely different directions of each other, decided to go somewhere centrally located (as opposed to driving into the city which would’ve been a  huge pain in the ass) that is open when they say they are open, and offers desserts that are not only refreshing but are LEGIT.

Classic Lemon Tart for Sarah, Tiramisu for Grace, and I can never decide on anything. So probably 20 mins after they picked their treats, drinks, and found a place for us all to sit I finally just got Macarons. ALL THE MACARONS!

Macarons: Macarons are basically like eating air. Really delicious air, and are the perfect treat when you need to eat your feelings, because your hiking date got canceled.  These Macarons are from Chef Alex, a San Francisco Artisan baker. There were seven different flavors offered,: Coffee, Mango, Lime, Strawberry Champagne, Pistachio, Almond, and Caramel. and I ordered ALL OF THEM!

My favorite: Almond. I appreciate simple flavors. I could’ve eaten like a 100 of those suckers.

Least favorite: Lime & Mango. The lime was like KA-BLAMO LIME!! It was a lot of lime flavor with nothing to balance it out. The macaron shell is literally just a baked almond flour meringue, and like I said earlier it’s basically just air. The little flavor it does have doesn’t linger for very long. So when a strong lime flavor is introduced it’s extremely jolting and just takes over your entire pallet.  The mango was the opposite on the flavor scale. It didn’t taste like anything. Which is really disappointing. Mango isn’t as acidic or overwhelming in flavor as lime, and has a tropical fruity taste. I could’ve  totally been into ka-blamo mango. Instead it was just air and flavorless goop in my mouth (Sigh).

Tiramisu: Tiramisu is a dessert that I feel often gets messed up. It’s an Italian style cake that is composed of a lightly sweetened mascarpone cheese, and Ladyfingers soaked in espresso and kahlua. It’s usually dusted with cocoa powder. A lot of places will use cream cheese instead of mascarpone, and sponge cake instead of ladyfingers. This was totally the case this time around. Normally it bothers me, but I actually didn’t mind it too much. The coffee flavor and sweetness were nice and light. The cream cheese blend wasn’t appalling either. It was weird. I was kind of into it.

Lemon Tart: A lemon tart, is a lemon tart, is a lemon tart, is a lemon tart. They’re pretty much the same everywhere you go. Doesn’t really matter how fancy the place is, or isn’t. It’s pretty much a safe bet they will always be delicious. The only thing that ever really changes is the presentation. This one was topped with whip cream and a candied lemon slice, and it did not disappoint.

So if you need cool off from watching a really inappropriate movie, need to eat your feelings, or just want a nice well made treat, check out Nugget Market for yourself! They have so many delicious options to choose from. I would’ve taken a picture of the dessert case, but I was already loitering around it for so long that I’m pretty sure I was  getting on everyone’s nerves. Anyways, go there and tell me what you think! Also, Eat Responsibly!  Macarons are delicious, but eating never solved anything….except hunger….and starvation…. Thanks for reading!
