lemon sugar scrub

Rosemary Sugar Scrub for Cleansing and Healing

Ingredients:
• sugar: for a gentle cleanse
• olive oil
• rosemary leaves: cleansing and protection
• optional: 3 drops rosemary essential oil (3 for body, mind and soul)
• honey: healing
• squeeze of lemon juice: happiness

Instructions:
Cut the rosemary leaves into small pieces. Mix the sugar, rosemary leaves and rosemary essential oil. Stir counterclockwise, thinking about what you want to be cleansed of. Add in olive oil, honey and lemon juice. Stir clockwise, thinking about how this scrub will heal you and bring happiness back into your life
Take a shower as usual, then gently rub the scrub on your body thinking about all the things you are cleansing yourself from right now. After that, rinse the scrub off, thinking about how you are rinsing your troubles away. After rinsing, the oil still leaves your body smooth. Think of this in a way that the oil leaves you healed.

Important! Make sure to clean the shower’s floor of any oil afterwards so the next person who takes a shower doesn’t slip and fall!

Blessed Be! )O(

Yes, everybody I know there are no links! Tumblr updated one day and they just disappeared! Sadly, this was a great master post but that’s the end of that!
WHEN LIFE GIVES YOU LEMONS...

… make a lemonade facial scrub ;)

Hey Tumblr kids. I wanted to tell you guys about a DIY facial scrub I’ve been using for a while now. Sometimes, no matter how many serums, masks, creams or oils you use, your skin will still look 50 shades of blah. Now, a combination of having an interest in beauty products but not having too many commas in my bank account to pay for high end products  brings me to messing around with ingredients in the kitchen.

This is a scrub that will only take you two minutes to make, that won’t cost you much and is a scrub that comes with one too many benefits. Here’s some of them:

Lemons are a natural source of vitamin C and is commonly used to lighten spots, even out skin tone, tighten pores and brighten complexion.

Sugar is a natural exfoliator. It is a natural source of glycolic acid which is used to even out skin tone, clean pores and to improve overall skin texture as its gets rid of all the dead and dull skin cells.

Honey is bursting with anti-oxidants and is literally the perfect ingredient for age prevention. It also locks water into the skin, keeping your complexion hydrated and its antibacterial properties benefits acne-prone skin massively.

Are you convinced yet? Let’s get started!

Slice one pretty yellow lemon in half and squeeze both halves into a small bowl (no seeds)
Add two tablespoons of sugar and one tablespoon of honey.
Now stir it all up to form a medium-thick consistency.
Apply the lemonade scrub to your face in gentle, circular motions and leave on for 5-10 minutes.
If you have any left over, you can use it as a scrub for your hands, it will leave your hands feeling sooooo smooth.
Are the minutes up?
Rinse your skin with cool water and pat dry. Make sure you apply a choice of moisturizer onto your skin afterwards – I use black sesame oil but anything goes!

And that’s pretty much it, say hi to a softer, glowing and hydrated face J
Let me know if any of you try it and how it works for you.

Peace and love

The Giant Post of DIY Skincare!

Hello lovlies! I have neglected this blog a little- I’m so sorry! I’m going to get right back on track asap. Today I’m going to talk about some things you can do at home from things you can find in your kitchen (if you’re in a dorm room or something these are things you can easily find and store in there as well) and they are very easy to make and use.

Just a a forewarning- I won’t be giving exact measurements, only because  it depends on what you’re using it for (e.g. are you wanting it for your face or body?) Depending on what your intended use is, you’ll need to decide for yourself how much is necessary. I will just try to tell you the proper ratio you need. Okay whew. I feel like that was a long intro. Sorry. Let’s get started!

Masks

Yogurt & Honey ||  This mask is great if you find your skin is dull or lackluster. It’s perfect for all skin types, it will nourish dry skin and bring radiance while controlling oil on oilier skin. Yogurt by itself has such amazing skin benefits, when I was in high school I would come home from school and apply a thin layer of plain yogurt to my arms and face- it feels nice and cool and if you apply it after coming inside from the sun it counteracts the UV rays and helps to prevent sun damage. It’s kind of amazing. The lactic acid, zinc, and calcium in yogurt are all extremely beneficial to the skin. It will brighten your complexion, it helps treat dark spots and active acne, and it also has anti-ageing properties. Did I mention it’s also packed with anti-oxidants? Amazing.

So like I said before, you can apply a layer of yogurt on your skin on its own, or you can also add a drizzle of honey with it. Honey is also an excellent skin nourishing ingredient, it has antibacterial properties and is excellent if you are using this mask for the treatment of acne, it will also unclog your pores and shares the anti-ageing benefits of yogurt.

Now, when choosing the yogurt go for something that is plain, not flavored. And try to find a yogurt that is full fat with live cultures for best results. As for the honey, raw honey is best but if you can’t find raw honey, just make sure that it is pure honey.

Egg White & Honey ||

I myself have oily skin, so I tend to look for things that will control the oil and balance my skin. Egg whites are really good for oily skin, so I don’t recommend this for dry skin types but if you have combination skin then it should be good. Egg whites  also give your skin a glowy appearance as well as tightening the skin, so this is a good mask to do if you have more mature skin (my mom loves this mask). You’ll want to mix two egg whites with a drizzle of honey until the mixture is frothy- don’t whip the eggs into a meringue, that is not the consistency you want. It’s a pretty drippy mask but it dries very quickly. This is a good mask to do the morning or night before a big event because it will make your skin look beautiful and luminous.

Scrubs

Lemon & Sugar || Sugar is an awesome natural exfoliant. Lemon juice is very acidic and might irritate your skin if you are sensitive, so make sure to test out a little bit on your skin before using it in a mask or scrub. If it causes an irritation for you, try diluting it with some water. It has skin/acne spot lightening properties and it will also treat acne because it has antibacterial properties. (You can make a honey+lemon juice mask or spot treatment for acne as well) I recommending using this scrub for your skin, if you have acne on your face and body focus on those areas, and I would avoid using this for a lip scrub because the lemon juice might dry them out. You can use brown or white sugar, but not powdered sugar (obviously you need a less fine, more abrasive type of sugar). Mix roughly 2 parts sugar to 1 part lemon juice, add more lemon juice if it seems to dry but you don’t want it to be a drippy mixture.

Coconut Oil & Sugar || Coconut oil is moisturizing, sugar is exfoliating. Put them together and you have an awesome scrub. Again, 2 parts sugar to 1 part coconut oil. You don’t need to melt the coconut oil before using it for this scrub.

Hair Treatments

Coconut Oil || The amount of oil you will need will depend on how much hair you have. Gently melt this in the microwave and massage it into your hair with your hands. Leave it for at least thirty minutes before rinsing it off in the shower. Your hair will look shiny and well conditioned. You can do this every week and it will make your hair very healthy.

Olive Oil || You can use this the same way as the coconut oil, it will do the same thing. You can also mix the two. Both are very good for your hair. You don’t need to heat it before applying it.

Other Tips

Banana Peel || Banana peels have great acne treating nutrients in them. The next time you have a break out, gently rub the inner part of the banana peel onto the affected area. Do this each day and you will notice how good of a spot treatment this is for acne. You will want to use a fresh banana peel for this each time.

Okay, that is all I am leaving you with today. If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to ask! I hope this was helpful and I will be doing more posts like this in the future. I hope you have a lovely day! :)

xo, Hafsa

Add lemon juice and olive oil in to a bowl (I like to use tupperware as it is easy storage) until they mix together. Add the honey and wisk or stir quickly until the ingredients bind together into a medium thick consistency. You can add or subtract the amount of olive oil and honey that you use depending on how thick you want your scrub to be. I would keep the lemon to the juice of one half of a freshly cut lemon for every ½ cup of granulated sugar. Add in the sugar and mix. If you sense that there is not enough sugar to get the scrubbing done, add a bit more. Again, this is a personal preference.

As a body scrub: Apply to body, paying extra close attention to elbows, knees, feet and hands (nails and cuticles especially) and rub in circular motions for 3 to 5 minutes. Rinse. Enjoy the silky softness of your impossibly smooth skin.

As a face scrub: The lemon and sugar scrub is also great for the face, but use with gentle circular motions. This scrub is ideal for people who suffer from breakouts and acne as all of the ingredients are highly beneficial to acne prone skin. Lemon tightens pores and evens out the skin tone, sugar removes dead skin cells and cleans pores, olive oil heals acne scaring, and honey prevents future breakouts.

To use, follow the same recipe instructions then apply to clean face in gentle, circular motions. Be cautious of using on open wounds as the lemon may sting. Leave on for 7-10 minutes and rinse with cool water.

Even though my skin pigmentation is uneven but I’ve been using this honey, lemon, and sugar scrub every two days for the past couple of months. I do not know how It works but I haven’t any spots since then. If you guys wanna know how I make it, let me know I’ll put up a post, explaining the process step by step.

Cool Homemade Exfoliating Scrub

School’s out for the next two weeks. When I don’t have excess school work (which is rarely) I start to indulge in my random interests and hobbies, which include homemade beauty regimens. And I know you’re all fans of looking pretty in your kitchen.

I found a really cool one that leaves your skin feeling INCREDIBLY SOFT - a homemade Lemon Sugar Exfoliating Scrub:

This is great for oily, acne-prone skin (ie: MINE) because the lemon has Vitamin C, which evens out your skin tone and shrinks your pores; the sugar acts as an exfoliator and gets rid of dull, dead skin cells; olive oil is great moisturizing and heals acne scarring; honey is a natural anti-oxidant and moisturizing agent, and also prevents breakouts.

Ingredients:

½ a squeezed lemon
½ cup of granulated sugar (cane or brown sugars work just as well)
1 tbsp extra virgin olive oil* (almond or coconut oil work too)
1 tbsp organic honey*

*Feel free to add more or less

How to Do It:

  • Add the lemon juice and olive oil together in a plastic bowl or container
  • Add the honey to achieve the desired thickness, whisk
  • Gradually pour in the sugar, stir in spoonful by spoonful
  • You can also add Vitamin E oil for additional healing
  • Using gentle circular motions, apply liberally to face or body

There’s a lot of different versions online. But this recipe is the one my mom uses and passed along to me. Enjoy :-*

15 top beauty tips/hacks?

1. MOISTURIZE YOUR SKINNNNNNN

moisture cancels out oil so if you have oily skin moisturizing it is literally the only way to heal it. Think of it as your skin is dry so it over produces oil to keep it moist.

2. coconut oil

I use it to shave my legs, as deodorant, to moisturize my skin, take off my makeup, it can be used as a lubricant, also good for cooking!

3. to get straight eyeliner

apply from the middle of your eye and see where you will end from the corner all the way to wing. it helps me!

4. never sleep with makeup on

i need to take my own advice, but it will honestly make your skin so much softer and nicer! Please dont sleep with make up on!

5. exfoliate!

at least once a weak to clean away dirt. Dont over do it though because it will irritate your skin and damage it! i know if you have acne you wanna scrub your skin hard. Please refrain from doing so and get a facial brush to exfoliate your skin!

6. vaseline!

Vaseline will heal all your dry spots and cure any break outs (:

7. clean your makeup brushes often

This is advice I need to follow up on as well but the longer your brushes are dirty the more prone you are to breaking out

8. if you get mascara on your eyelid

wait for it to try and just let it scrape off with your nail afterwards

9. facial mask!

i find most at home facial masks to be better then the ones you buy at home

Honey, sugar, and lemon scrub will always be my favorite!

10. avocado

literally heals everything! its a super food and its great for your skin and hair. Mix and avocado with an egg and make an hair mask, wear for 15 minutes.

11. coconut oil (again)

I have a color deficiency in my teeth are very yellow. I brush my teeth with coconut oil and it whitens my teeth, takes away bad breath, and cleans them.

12. lip scrub

I highly recommend the lipscrubs from LUSH they make my lips fuller by night and day. I exfoliate my lips everynight and use a peppermint lip palm with essential oils to plump my lips (:

13. orange concealer

for under your eyes will take away your purple bags! And then apply your regular highlight concealer

14. Makeup remover wipes

as they do take off your makeup they are actually bad for your skin. I highly recommend you take off your make up with coconut oil/almond oil/jojoba oil and a facial pad

15. facial spray

a facial spray (toner) is always good for your skin! You can get a moisturizing one from nivea, or Mario bedascu (i think thats how you spell it lol)
