Noor Jehan began singing at the age of 5 and by the age of 13 her career started as a playback singer. Noor Jehan sang over 10,000 songs for various films over the course of her career. She also acted in quite a few films and was a major success as both an actress and singer.
Noor Jehan was also known to be very kind hearted and charitable. Homeless men and women camped outside from her mansion to 3 blocks down. Noor Jehan would come out of her mansion everyday and distribute money and food.
Quite the patriot, during the 1965 war, Noor Jehan sang patriotic songs on the actual battle field, which were aired live via radio throughout Pakistan.
Noor Jehan was given the title of Malika-e-Taranum (Queen of Melody). Many people in India and Pakistan believed Noor Jehan was the goddess of song and today there is a temple dedicated to her.
