legalized corruption

2

Yes, Romania is beautiful, but we can’t post images of our great castles or our breathtaking nature at this moment. Everything is in danger right now. The government of the PSD (the neo-communists) made corruption legal. It’s true, it’s great, would Trump say. But we’ve had our share of corruption. We’re done. We want transparency. We want to be a modern country. But now, those politicians want to legalize corruption and of course they are the ones who won’t end up in jail because of this new law. They steal our money and our lives.

We, the people, can’t do anything about it, except this: protest and share our message with the world. We only want to live in this beautiful country with breathtaking nature and great cultural places, but without those corrupt and arrogant politicians.

Please help us, and share. And Romanians: protest!

Above The Law: How Canadian Police Are Rarely Held To Account When Accused Of Misconduct
Canadian police are rarely held to account when accused of breaking the law.
By Bruce Livesey

[…]

Like the United States, Canada has a poor track record of prosecuting police who break the law, despite the emergence in some provinces of agencies specifically designed to investigate police.

BuzzFeed News examined court records, data from police investigatory bodies, and media accounts, and spoke with experts, former police officers, victims, lawyers, and advocates and found that Canadian police who kill, wound, assault, allegedly plant evidence, or are found to have lied in court are rarely held to account. We found many examples of officers who were reprimanded by judges for fabricating testimony, or whose unethical conduct caused charges to be dismissed, and who went on to commit similar acts — and even be promoted.

“It’s like Groundhog Day,” said André Marin, a former Ontario Ombudsman and former head of the Special Investigations Unit (SIU), an agency that investigates police in Ontario when they cause injury. “When there is a [police] shooting, everybody freaks out, ‘Oh my god, oh my god, oh my god,’ and nothing seems to happen.”

Alan Young, a criminal law professor at Osgoode Hall Law School, agrees. “Basically when it comes to accountability for misconduct, police get a free pass,” he said. “It’s always been that way and it will probably continue that way until somebody wants to champion the issue of police accountability.”

One significant challenge in evaluating the accountability of police in Canada is that no nationwide data exists that accurately tracks how many police officers are accused or investigated for misconduct, what happens when they are investigated, how often they are prosecuted or cleared, and which offenses they are most often accused of committing. But the few statistics that do exist on police accountability paint a bleak picture.

In light of recent events...

I’m disgusted with events that took place over the last 12 hours or so on Twitter, and I’m even more disgusted that this is a thing that happens repetitiously. So, here is a list of basic etiquette for meeting DnP in public. Honestly all of this is common sense, but apparently some people need to be reminded of it:

(Once you have read this, you have absolutely no excuses for your actions should you ever meet them (not that you had any excuses to begin with) and shall have 100% responsibility for your actions.)

(Also, these rules apply to any stars/celebrities/humans in general that you may encounter and apply in any location or scenario.)

  • DON’T take videos or photos of them without their consent, full stop. It’s a breach of their privacy, which goes against their fundamental human rights and is therefore illegal in almost all countries around the world, countries like Australia and the UK included…
  • …and if you do, DO delete it/them, especially if they ask you to. Again, it’s illegal and just morally wrong to take/keep/post non-consensual footage of them.
  • DON’T follow them or stalk them. It’s common sense and is for the same reasons as I listed above (it’s illegal), so if I get anyone questioning why, I will be really disgusted and disappointed.
  • DO go to meetups if you want selfies and if you want to meet them. The very reason meetups exist is so that you can meet your favourite stars in a consensual and relaxed environment, so take advantage of that rather than springing a trap on them outside of said consensual environments.
  • DO remember that DnP are no more or less human than us. I’ve seen people using the argument that they’re celebrities and that they should expect to be followed and whatnot, but they have the right to privacy as much as any of us and can feel frustration as much as any of us, so treat them like you’d treat any normal member of the public.
  • DO remember to distinguish between running into them coincidentally and deliberately tracking or following them. Running into them coincidentally is something you didn’t expect or intend to happen, therefore not your fault. Following or tracking them is 100% a conscious action so you are expect to take full responsibility for whatever may happen.
  • DON’T use “Oh but it’s a public area” as an excuse for following them. I’ve seen and argued with so many people who have used that excuse, but it doesn’t make following them any less morally or legally corrupt. Just because it may be deemed a public area doesn’t mean they’re always willing to interact with any people in it in a public manner. They are in public for the sake of sorting out shit for their own personal lives, it’s not an automatic invitation for anyone and everyone to follow them. Besides, Dan specifically said in a liveshow not to follow them in airports, so listen to them when they say that and assume the same request applies for any other public area.
  • DON’T think that they’re okay with being followed just because they offer to take selfies or whatever or because they don’t call you out on following them. I do wish DnP had more backbone regarding this, but the only reason they may agree to interacting with you is because they’re very selfless men who put their viewers wants (wants, not needs, because meeting them is not a necessity in life) before their own, however that doesn’t mean they’re comfortable doing it. Don’t take advantage of that selflessness.
  • DON’T remain under the impression that they live to serve us. They are under no obligation to do anything for us, not even on the internet, and it’s only because they’re good and admittedly-over-generous people that they do so in the first place. Just because they’re entertainers online sometimes doesn’t mean they’re idols to be objectified and dehumanised all the time, everywhere. They have their own lives and personal needs, exactly the same as we do.
  • DON’T be surprised if you receive backlash for doing things like what those people did today, you deserve every nasty tweet, post and DM you receive (unless you receive death threats or anything like that, which is never okay).
  • DON’T feel you have the right to defend yourself if you receive backlash, because you honestly don’t.

One final thought: you ever think about why celebrities imply or say that they want to live a ‘normal’ life? It’s because of stalkers and followers like the ones today, people who completely dehumanise them and put them on a pedestal where they’re expected to stay and be leered at 24/7. It’s not fair to enforce this on fellow human beings, especially with human beings as gracious and patient with us as DnP are. You don’t deserve to be called a ‘fan’ if you can’t love and value and respect them properly.

after the law that the romanian government passed 3 days ago (which as i said in my last post, would effectively make corruption legal (if under 45k euros, good joke) and would pardon everyone who previously got arrested for it) , thousands upon thousands of people went out in the streets to protest, making this the largest protest romania’s had since the 1989 revolution

it hasnt even been 30 years, i really hope we can stop it here and now

Romanian Gothic (III)

you’re 4 years old. you’re so thirsty… so so thirsty.. you find a bottle of water lying around and chug. why does this water burn your throat?

O-Zone’s Dragostea Din Tei comes on. you’ve been blessed with an innate knowledge of all the lyrics.

“we made corruption legal,” the government says. you raise an eyebrow. wasn’t it already?

you have a day full of plans ahead of you. just as you’re about to leave, a single cough escapes you. you sadly go back inside, cancelling on everyone. somehow they understand.

you’re hungry. there is no food on the table. your buni hands you some lei, and tells you to go buy a 2L bottle of coca cola zero.

“cyber piracy spiking in Romania,” an article headline reads. you scoff, while continuing to torrent all your software.

you park your car on the nearest sidewalk. there is no car. you are in a cart, pulled by a horse.

a foreigner complains that it’s too hot. you check the temperature. it’s only 35 C today. you throw your head back in hysterical laughter. you don’t stop.

a man cloaked in black robes barges into your home, spraying holy water all over your walls and sing-chanting solemnly. you panic, only to sigh in relief as you remember. it’s Christmas.

you knock on the government’s door:
-“excuse me, can i get uuuhh.. better quality of life”
-“…………government machine broke”

hey so i know i dont usually post about romanian things but i need to say this

so last night (yes, in the middle of the fucking night, like the filthy thieves they are) the romanian government passed a law that, basically, makes corruption legal (if its under 45k euros, which is a LOT) AND they’re going to let all the (few) people who (they barely) arrested for this out of prison…

i know this isnt as important to america as trump, but this is HUGE to us. there were (as far as i know) 90 thousand people protesting last night (the last time there were protests this big was in 1989 when communism fell, just to give you a perspective) and there are going to be even more today

this country has had problems with corruption since the dawn of time but i dont reckon it ever being made LEGAL. i just figured id bring some awareness to this…

Steve/Tony Fic Recs: Mafia/Mob AU

A really nice anon’s been looking for mob boss stevetony fics, so here’s my list for you, nonnie :D Also, do check out @wingheadshellhead‘s rec-list for fanart and edits :) Some of the WIPs haven’t been updated in a while, but are still well-worth the read.

Please kudos and leave comments for our hardworking authors!

Kings Of Coney Island by Vespasiana: In which Steve is a rising mafia don lacking in panache, Tony is an unethical businessman with a target on his back, and somehow a fake marriage will solve all their problems. Also murder. Murder solves a lot of problems, too. (Ults fic. WIP - not updated since 2013)

i fed it to the wolves by naimu: Wolves rule New York City. Perhaps that was why Tony never liked New York City. Along with the giant empty mansion filled with his ghosts and the massive tower that, yes had his name on the building but never felt truly his. Too many wolves in one place made everyone itchy- for a fight or well… a fuck. (Werewolf AU - not updated since 2012)

Keep Your Eyes Down by randomnese (calebaren):

Captain Steve Rogers is a dangerous man.

He’s dangerous because he runs the New York city underworld, pushing contraband, moving money, always that face behind the curtain that the detectives and the police officers scurry to try to glimpse, but he’s too careful, much too careful to get caught; he has most of the New York elite chained to their desks, and they don’t even know it. Brutal, ruthless, and entirely cold-blooded. On most days, at least. On other days, Mr. Rogers is a substitute teacher with a love for art and a talent for teenagers.

Tony Stark runs a multi-billion dollar technology conglomerate, somehow keeping it together while losing it at the same time. He’s a smooth-talker, capable of charming an entire room in under three minutes. Deceptively dashing with a tongue of silver, under his thumb, he has more money than anyone could possibly use, near unlimited resources, and a curiously large blindspot when it comes to police or even government oversight. Not that he’d abuse that privilege.

And of course, they have to run into each other. (WIP - not updated since 2013)

Go Ugly Early by just_another_tinker

He’s The Captain?

This was not good.

This was so not good.

There were theories of course, of what The Captain would look like. Most followed the typical Hollywoodesque belief that he was some version of the Godfather, sitting in a dark room with a cigar, commanding his forces with a flick of his wrist. There were even some that even thought that The Captain was not one person, but a whole network of people with eyes and ears everywhere.

The blonde Adonis in front of him was definitely not what Tony was expecting. Of course, in the end it didn’t matter. There was a reason no one knew what The Captain looked like. Because anyone who saw his face never lived to tell the tale. (WIP)

Two Families by Neverever (@captainneverever): Maria Stark and Sarah Rogers seal their new-found alliance through an arranged marriage for their sons, Tony and Steve. Steve, the heir to Sarah’s mob empire, is doubtful but wants to make his mother happy. But Tony is in denial about the deep deep trouble his family is in and wants no part of this. How will Steve and Tony deal with their unwanted marriage, survive a mob war, and defeat their enemies? And what if they might, possibly find each other attractive and interesting? (WIP)

Laws Of Bygones by XtaticPearl (@xtaticpearl): One ran a mob, the other chased them. But there was a stream of memories and past chasing both of them, across lives and universe. An incomplete story will be retold again, with the same heroes, a reborn love, and a revenge burning for centuries. (WIP)

Ain’t Nobody’s Business If I Do by copperbadge (@copperbadge): The year is 1930, Prohibition and the Depression are both in full swing, and Chicago Police Detective Steve Rogers has his hands full. There’s a dead body on the banks of Lake Michigan, the entire city’s legal system is corrupt, and the king gangster of the North Side, Tony Stark, has taken more than a passing interest in him.

lie next to me (blood on your shirt) by theappleppielifestyle (@theappleppielifestyle):  "I’ll take care of it,“ Steve promises, squeezing Tony’s hand, and then, at Tony’s look: "We’ll take care of it.”

(Mafia!AU where Steve never wanted Tony to get involved in his mob business - he wants to keep Tony safe, no matter the cost, even if it means letting Tony forge himself into something just as terrifying as Steve.)

all those things you do (get out, get gone) by theappleppielifestyle (@theappleppielifestyle): He looks like he could take down a whole army with his hands and a tool kit. Steve supposes he could.

Protective mob boss Steve drabble by @theappleppielifestyle: "No matter where they are, no matter what state their relationship is in, Steve will always watch and protect Tony (mafia au)“

Rescued by nightwalker (@onemuseleft): The gunshot echoes off the walls and ceiling of the warehouse.

Brooklyn’s Finest by kellebelle“Day #79 of Stark Watch. Where is the 25 year old genius? No one has spotted him in nearly three months, and many are speculating that he might be dead. Others remain hopeful and alert, eagerly awaiting the return of their favorite billionaire to the spotlight.”

HYDRA gets Tony, then Steve gets Tony. Steve isn’t sure how this became his life but he’s fairly certain Tony Stark is going to be the death of him. Mafia AU.

Involvement by Keyboard_Weaving_Stories: Clint had always tried to keep his baby brother out of trouble, which meant keeping him in the dark about his involvement with the local mob. But one day, Tony’s curiosity opens him up to a whole new world around him and there’s only guessing what kind of trouble he can get into.

In the Dark of the Night by cauldronofdoom: Steve is in charge of the local mob. Tony, no thanks to Stane, has come to his attention. (mob-verse series)

Baiting the Water by Veldeia (@veldeia): In the underworld of 1930’s New York, a bitter artist turned small-time swindler takes a bold step and goes to the Kingpin for help in plotting his revenge against his former friend and patron, an obnoxious inventor with a taste for art.

The Devil’s Strand by Woad: 1940. Steve Rogers just wants to serve his country, but with a dead man’s name on his wrist the army will never take him. Soulmate marks can be removed, but so-called cures have already landed Steve in debt with the wrong sort of people, and it’s hard enough to make ends meet waiting tables.

With a bad heart, Tony Stark, a capo in his father’s mob, never dreamed he would serve his country. But when a ship sinks under mysterious circumstances, a special division of Navy Intelligence calls on Tony for his connections. He’s never liked the family business, but he thinks maybe, just this once, he can manage to use it for good.

They meet by chance one night, when Steve knows him as only "Tony.” But after Steve is pulled into mob business and meets the capo, their relationship becomes much more complicated.

Get Money, Get Paid by Missy_dee811 (@viudanegraaa): Arno, Tony’s sadistic evil brother, usurps control of the Iron Legion with the help of someone close to Tony. Tony’s left reeling. In due time, he and Steve, the leader of the Howling Commandos, form an unlikely partnership. A rival gang, the Guardians, led by the charismatic Peter, threatens the status quo. Seeing no other way to protect Tony, with whom he’s in love, Steve proposes a fake marriage, which Tony accepts.

My Boy Builds Coffins by myadamantiumheart: Tony hadn’t known that he was getting involved with a mob boss, Steve hadn’t given any indications of being anything other than a mild-mannered art teacher, and Pepper hadn’t been right about one night stands being more dangerous than a long term relationship. (series)

Make Tomorrow’s World Better (Through Any Means Necessary) series by Faillen: When Tony Stark finds out about Obadiah Stane’s double dealing, he seeks out the Captain, the only man in New York that has a team with the resources and ability to take down HYDRA—the neo-Nazi gang Stane’s been selling to. Acting as an informant under the alias Iron Man, Tony finds out a few months later that the Captain is actually his sweet-as-pie boyfriend, Steve Rogers. In order to take down Stane and HYDRA, they work together (along with the Avengers, the gang that Steve leads) with Tony focusing dragging Stane’s betrayal out of the shadows and Steve trying to destroy HYDRA—and Johann Schmidt—once and for all. But close-call assassination attempts and politics with the NYPD throw a wrench in not only in their plans, but also in their relationship, leaving them both wondering if sacrificing everything for tomorrow’s world is really worth it.

Hang Up Your Cross (this one’s on me) by Ylixia: Mafia AU. PWP. Tony Stark is a pain slut who did a bad thing. Steve Rogers has a temper and does not approve of the thing. They work things out. With sex. (dub-con)

Midnight by Kiyaar (@besafesteve): “Careful,” Steve says, jumping down with his gun in hand. “You’ll get blood on those fancy shoes of yours. Some might say it’s sloppy.”

the moment of truth in your lies by SailorChibi (@tsuki-chibi): Being in the army and being an Enforcer for the Stark family are two completely different things. Steve is good at both.

Turns out he’s also really good at falling for Iron Man even though he has no idea who Iron Man really is.

you’ve got me head over heels (on gasoline) by shieldmaidenofrohan (@captainstarkreportingforduty): The one where… a kidnapped Tony Stark meets the Captain, and deals are made in… unusual ways.

Let’s See What You Did Wrong by Resacon1990: In which Tony is kidnapped by a rival mob.

The Captain by arianapeterson19: Tony was convinced that the men who had nabbed him off the street had the wrong guy; Tony didn’t know any guy named the Captain. However, if the Captain wanted to show up and tell them that, Tony would really appreciate it.

OR The one where Steve really should have told his boyfriend he was a mob boss BEFORE he was kidnapped. (sequel)

Surprise, I Got Kidnapped by FanofAllThingsAdorkable: This time, it actually was Tony’s fault. He knew that Steve’s enemies were everywhere. He knew that they all had seen his face before. But he had still slipped away from his guard, leaving them in the dust while he ran free. He had just wanted to pick up Steve’s anniversary present without Steve knowing for once. He wanted to surprise him, just once.

Surprise, I got kidnapped. Happy anniversary, baby!

The Proposal by tarialdarion (@tari-aldarion): Tell me Mafia!AU things, please! DOES STEVE EVER PROPOSE?

Mafia au by @starkpad: Glimpses of the life of mob boss Steve and his pretty little darling, Tony. this involves guns, cigarettes, lingerie, dancing, and basically steve adoring the shit out of tony. and of course, sex.

What It Means: The Indictment of Manafort and Gates
The indictment alleges a complicated scheme of fraud and deception by President Trump’s former campaign manager and his protégé. Both surrendered to the authorities on Monday.
By Charlie Savage

A concise summary of a convoluted alleged scheme

Defendants PAUL J. MANAFORT, JR., (MANAFORT) and RICHARD W. GATES III (GATES) served for years as political consultants and lobbyists. Between at least 2006 and 2015, MANAFORT and GATES acted as unregistered agents of the Government of Ukraine, the Party of Regions (a Ukrainian political party whose leader Viktor Yanukovych was President from 2010 to 2014), Yanukovych, and the Opposition Bloc (a successor to the Party of Regions that formed in 2014 when Yanukovych fled to Russia). MANAFORT and GATES generated tens of millions of dollars in income as a result of their Ukraine work. In order to hide Ukraine payments from United States authorities, from approximately 2006 through at least 2016, MANAFORT and GATES laundered the money through scores of United States and foreign corporations, partnerships and bank accounts.

The opening paragraph of the indictment lays out a narrative framework for understanding the complex details subsequent pages delve into. In brief, prosecutors contend that Mr. Manafort and Mr. Gates violated a law that requires Americans to register and disclose activities undertaken as agents of a foreign power, and then that they took steps to launder tens of millions of dollars in income from that work and to evade paying taxes on it.

New details about a high-profile raid

In fact, MANAFORT and GATES had: selected Company A and Company B; engaged in weekly scheduled calls and frequent emails with Company A and Company B to provide them directions as to specific lobbying steps that should be taken; sought and received detailed oral and written reports from these firms on the lobbying work they had performed; communicated With Yanukovych to brief him on their lobbying efforts; both congratulated and reprimanded Company A and Company B on their lobbying work; communicated directly with United States officials in connection with this work; and paid the lobbying firms over $2 million from offshore accounts they controlled, among other things. In addition, court-authorized searches of MANAFORT and GATES’ DMI email accounts and MANAFORT’S Virginia residence in July 2017 revealed numerous documents, including documents related to lobbying, which were more than thirty-days old at the time of the November 2016 letter to the Department of Justice.

In July, Mr. Mueller’s team and the F.B.I. executed an unusual search warrant at Mr. Manafort’s home in Virginia in which, rather than knocking on his front door, they picked the lock and burst inside, seizing documents and copying computer files. Such an unannounced intrusion is permitted only when prosecutors convince a judge that a defendant may destroy evidence if given any warning.

The indictment suggests what was behind the raid. After questions arose about whether Mr. Manafort had failed to register as a foreign agent for Ukraine, his firm denied the allegations but also told federal investigators in November 2016 that they had no records about the work because their policy is to destroy emails after 30 days.

This line in the indictment shows what prosecutors found in that raid: documents related to his lobbying for Ukraine that Mr. Manafort’s lobbying company had told federal investigators did not exist — one of the bases for charges of making false statements.

Hiding foreign bank accounts

Furthermore, in each of MANAFORT’s tax filings for 2008 through 2014, MANAFORT represented falsely that he did not have authority over any foreign bank accounts. MANAFORT and GATES had repeatedly and falsely represented in writing to MANAFORT’s tax preparer that MANAFORT had no authority over foreign bank accounts, knowing that such false representations would result in false MANAFORT tax filings. For instance, on October 4, 2011, MANAFORT’S tax preparer asked MANAFORT in writing: “At any time during 2010, did you [or your wife or children] have an interest in or a signature or other authority over a financial account in a foreign country, such as a bank account, securities account or other financial account?” On the same day, MANAFORT falsely responded “NO.” MANAFORT responded the same way as recently as October 3, 2016, When MANAFORT’S tax preparer again emailed the question in connection with the preparation of MANAFORT’s tax returns: “Foreign bank accounts etc.?” MANAFORT responded on or about the same day: “NONE.”

Americans who hold assets in offshore bank accounts are required to disclose information about those holdings to the federal government, including for tax purposes. The indictment alleges that Mr. Manafort and Mr. Gates violated those laws.

Defrauding lenders

After MANAFORT used his offshore accounts to purchase real estate in the United States, he took out mortgages on the properties, thereby allowing MANAFORT to have the benefits of liquid income without paying taxes on it. Further, MANAFORT defrauded the banks that loaned him the money so that he could withdraw more money at a cheaper rate than he otherwise would have been permitted.

The indictment shows how the investigators’ deep scrutiny of Mr. Manafort’s financial dealings helped them uncover additional alleged offenses that resulted in charges. For example, Mr. Manafort “used his hidden overseas wealth to enjoy a lavish lifestyle in the United States, without paying taxes on that income,” according to the indictment, by having his overseas entities buy real estate and then taking out mortgages on those properties, freeing up cash.

The indictment details several such transactions in which Mr. Manafort is accused of falsely telling the bank he was either living in the properties or was using the borrowed funds for construction, thereby gaining access to a lower interest rate.

Conspiracy against the United States

From in or about and between 2006 and 2017, both dates being approximate and inclusive, in the District of Columbia and elsewhere, the defendants PAUL J. MANAFORT JR., and RICHARD W. GATES III, together with others, knowingly and intentionally conspired to defraud the United States by impeding, impairing, obstructing, and defeating the lawful governmental functions of a government agency, namely the Department of Justice and the Department of the Treasury, and to commit offenses against the United States, to wit, the violations of law charged in Counts Three through Six and Ten through Twelve.

The first charge against Mr. Manafort and Mr. Gates is conspiracy, a powerful tool used by prosecutors. Two people are guilty of the crime of conspiracy if they agreed to commit a crime and took any step toward that goal. Conspiracy charges also permit prosecutors to hold each defendant responsible for the actions of the others within a plot. Here is a primer on how conspiracy charges may fit into the Trump-Russia probe.

An unusual basis for money laundering charges

(a) transport, transmit, and transfer monetary instruments and funds from places outside the United States to and through places in the United States and from places in the United States to and through places outside the United States, with the intent to promote the carrying on of specified unlawful activity, to wit: a felony Violation of the FARA, in Violation of Title 22, United States Code, Sections 612 and 618 (the “Specified Unlawful Activity”), contrary to Title 18, United States Code, Section 1956(a)(2)(A); and

(b) conduct financial transactions, affecting interstate and foreign commerce, knowing that the property involved in the financial transactions would represent the proceeds of some form of unlawful activity, and the transactions in fact would involve the proceeds of Specified Unlawful Activity, knowing that such financial transactions were designed in whole and in part (i) to engage in conduct constituting a Violation of sections 7201 and 7206 of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986, and (ii) to conceal and disguise the nature, location, source, ownership, and control of the proceeds of the Specified Unlawful Activity, contrary to Title 18, United States Code, Section 19S6(a)(1)(A)(ii) and l956(a)(1)(B)(i).

Money laundering charges require that the financial transactions involved be designed to conceal that funds came from an underlying unlawful activity. Typically, such charges are pegged to a crime like drug trafficking. Here, prosecutors say, the underlying activity is instead the failure by Mr. Manafort and Mr. Gates to register as a foreign agent while conducting lobbying activities for Ukraine that were otherwise lawful in and of themselves. That is an aggressive move by Mr. Mueller’s team.

Mueller is going after Manafort’s assets

52. Pursuant to Fed. R. Crim, P. 32.2, notice is hereby given to the defendants that the United States will seek forfeiture as part of any sentence in accordance with Title 18, United States Code, Sections 981(a)(1)© and 982(a)(1) and(a)(2), and Title 28, United States Code, Section 2461©, in the event of the defendants’ convictions under Count Two of this Indictment.

As part of the pressure Mr. Mueller and his team are putting on Mr. Manafort, they are signaling in this indictment that if he is convicted of various charges, the government will seek to seize various properties and a life insurance policy linked to those charges — or any other assets he may have, if those are no longer available. This gives Mr. Manafort an additional incentive to cooperate as part of a plea deal that could allow his family to keep some of those assets.

Where will Mueller go next?

Mr. Mueller’s personal signature appears at the end of this indictment, a rare direct acknowledgment of his work. Little has been heard in public from Mr. Mueller since he took the assignment of special counsel, even as political commentary about him and his work has raged — especially from President Trump, who has called the special counsel investigation a “witch hunt” and on Monday reiterated on Twitter that there was “no collusion” with Russia and said of the indictment, “Sorry, but this is years ago, before Paul Manafort was part of the Trump campaign.”

The indictment, though undoubtedly significant, also raises the question of what Mr. Mueller’s next step will be. But it is widely believed that Mr. Mueller is hoping to pressure Mr. Manafort into flipping and becoming a cooperating witness, providing information about the central subject of his investigation: the relationship between the Trump campaign and Russia.

what's gonna happen to papa iii?

well, kids, era iii is coming to a close after a long run and we’re all getting ready for the introduction of papa iv. i have two different theories for how the replacement of papa iii is gonna go down and both have some solid evidence behind them. ultimately though i don’t have a damn clue what Thigh Fat has in mind, though, so this is all just speculation that myself and @silverthurible have been thinking up for the past several months.

theory #1: papa iii is gonna fucking die dude

this one is my personal favorite because i love papa iii so much the only way i can live with him being replaced is if he fuckin DIES

thurible and i base this theory mostly off of the fact that papa iii’s character is apparently very largely influenced by king gustav iii of sweden.

his costume is the giveaway, with papa’s suit being almost a direct copy of a suit famously worn by ol’ gustav:

gustav was also known for being extravagant and very fond of the performing arts, which fits papa iii’s very Extra, theatrical personality.

he was also a freemason, and that aligns with how square hammer is loaded with masonic imagery

SO THE REASON I MENTION ALL THIS IS BECAUSE…….gustav iii was assassinated. by a bunch of men in masks!!!

i don’t know why you’d want to kill this sweet angel devil pope. maybe sister imperator wanted to get rid of him for being too goofy and had him killed. maybe he suddenly went mad with power and the ghouls brought him down. or maybe…..i will touch on the sub-theory here:

theory #1.5: papa ii is going to kill him

hey remember zenith?

so like what if this song, zenith, that’s about the fall of the advanced civilization that we see in era 3, is hinting at something?

like what if it’s hinting that papa ii is going to come back and do a Bad Thing, bring about the downfall of that empire, and become papa iv?

papa ii is on the cover art. papa ii is also in all the booklet art for meliora. this could just be a result of papa iii’s design not being available to the artist at the time that the pieces were done, but hear me out here:

cain and abel, dude

THEY’RE BROTHERS DUDE

papa ii, the firstborn brother, the Cain, is jealous of his younger brother, papa iii, the Abel. so he fucking kills him and becomes papa again.

THIS THEORY IS SO TINHATTY AND REALISTICALLY I DON’T THINK TABASCO IS GONNA BRING PAPA II BACK BUT MAN IF THIS ACTUALLY DOES HAPPEN I WILL RIOT!!

theory #2: papa goes to jail

THIS ONE IS STUPID AS HELL HONESTLY BUT IT WOULD BE HILARIOUS IF IT HAPPENED–

i don’t have the image on hand right now but remember that photo from the He Is video shoot, with the papa double in that white suit? i’m pretty sure that costume is intended to look like the suits worn by benny hinn, a televangelist pastor who’s been involved in some legal investigations for being corrupt and pocketing the money generated by his religious organization.

combining that with the lyrics to cirice, which can easily be interpreted as a corrupt religious figure attempting to brainwash his followers (can’t you see that you’re lost without me) era 3 could potentially end in papa iii being investigated and sent to jail for being a corrupt religious figure.

which would be fucking hilarious with the current lawsuit drama and also it would be the exact kind of goofy shit that turtle fudge would pull, i think.

IN CONCLUSION: i think iii dying is more likely than him going to jail but honestly all of this is just tinhatty overthinking and i have no idea whats gonna happen to papa iii but this shit is fun to think about

300.000 people in Bucharest, 300.000 in the rest of Romania. WE WON. For now. The government won’t quit. They are going to legalize corruption, no doubt. But we will stand up for our rights every time. The fight goes on.

Thank you for the love, world.

(Great photo by the way, Dan Mihai Balanescu.)

  • Someone: *ships something I don't ship*
  • Me: That's awesome, man. Good for you.
  • Someone: *proceeds to bash and ridicule other ships*
  • Me: What the heck, man! Not effing cool!

This was Romania, four hours ago. There were 250.000 ( it reached 300.000) people protesting (peacefully) against the gouverment.

For those that don’t know what is happening in my country right now, the Romanian Goverment gave a law that made corruption a legal thing, the politicians of said goverment are benefiting from it and not going to prison if they steal money and not only that, but they also made it possible for criminals to escape their crimes and not go to jail.

so yes, this is my country right now. With the exception of a violent incident (instigators), for the past 5 days, the protests were peaceful!

We won’t stop, because we can’t stop. The government of the PSD legalized corruption and we, the people, are against this messed up law (of course!)… They are going to repeal, maybe, we don’t know for sure, certainly not with our lying government. So we can do only one thing: resist and protest. And that is what we do. We won’t stop until these bad boys are in jail.

But we can’t do it alone. Help us. Share, reblog, talk about us with your friends and family. We need a free Romania! Now!

So people probably haven’t heard, but in Romania hundreds of thousands of people have been in the streets protesting for 3 consecutive nights.
Protesting the government’s absurd decisions to legalize various forms of corruption and to ease sentences on those who have been profiting of this country.

I hope people around this world see this and show their support, just the way they showed solidarity with the Washington March.
Same principle different country.

(I’ll post later some of the stunning pictures that have come out of the protest and links to articles explaining the situation)

Current situation in Romania.

The most annoying rhetoric our government says about this controversial law is that “3.5 million Romanians voted for us”. Yeah buddy, but if you said in your campaign “vote for us we’re gonna make corruption legal” you wouldn’t have gotten a quarter of those votes. People voted for us = they support our laws no matter how revolting they are is illogical.

The bare minimum was done in this country against corruption anyway. That’s why the youth leaves and we barely have doctors. Because the system works against its citizens. Now this comes along and instead of backing the fuck down because there are protests everywhere in the country and outside, our government gets ready to send their paid supporters in the street. Not to exaggerate but this almost spells civil war. It’s gonna get ugly all because of this piece of shit and his lackeys.

MODERN AMIS

Feuilly: Feuilly was a foster child who started a business from his foster parents’ garage using only a hand-me down laptop. His business was so successful that he was able to move out on his own at 18. Now his business is large enough to hire employees and he trains and hires underprivileged youths and people with criminal backgrounds.

Combeferre: Combeferre studies medicine and in his limited free time fights for education reform and helps Jehan tutor underprivileged children to read and write and teaching French to immigrants to better their job opportunities. He constantly worries about France changing to a form of privatized medicine and is a strong supporter of free medical care. The rest of his time is spent worrying about Enjolras and occasionally bailing him out.

Jehan: Jehan was originally studying French, but often got into disagreements about interpreting classical works, and instead switched into Education with the goal of becoming a teacher. He created his own volunteer group to tutor underprivileged children, adults and immigrants and enjoys introducing them to the Romantic poets and his beloved classics.

Bahorel: Bahorel technically attends law school with Enjolras, Courfeyrac, Marius and Bossuet, but he becomes disenchanted with it’s competitive nature and the excessive legal corruption he sees everywhere. He spends more time teaching self defense classes than actually studying. His proudest moment was when the smallest girl in his class was able to flip him onto his back.

Courfeyrac: Courfeyrac is the gay rights expert of the law-student-amis. He runs the LGBTQA club at their university and wears ridiculously flamboyant outfits to classes, except on presentation days - on presentation days he wears a sharp suit and has the entire class swooning. He is always one step ahead of fashion and is the only one of the amis thoroughly versed in every social media platform. If Enjolras needs to announce a meeting, Courfeyrac is his go-to man.

Bossuet: Bossuet came from a wealthy family, but through a series of unfortunate events managed to end up penniless. He has to work extra hard to keep up his scholarship to remain at law-school, but he manages to get by with a smile and by the skin of his teeth.

Joly: Joly specializes in the study of cancer treatment and radiology. Between the diseases he studies and his expertise in radiology he lives in constant fear of either illness somehow contracted from radiation or a superbug. He has in 2016 alone, believed himself to suffer from ebola, the Zika virus, cancer, radiation poisoning from eating fish, gluten intolerance, a super bug, and a particularly resistance strain of cooties. He follows medical journals religiously and changes his diet accordingly, his friends can never remember which week he is eating NO eggs and which week he is living on them, which week he drinks milk and which he is dairy free, etc. He’s currently on a gluten free diet in spite of all of the articles debunking the fad that Combeferre has emailed him.

Marius: Marius was a staunch political rightist in honor of his late father, an army veteran, but after having been introduced to Les Amis de l'ABC by his roommate Courfeyrac, he’s suddenly had all of those ideals shattered and lives in somewhat of a state of poverty and confusion, but he works hard and he, like Bossuet, is managing to get his law degree through a scholarship.

Enjolras: Enjolras comes from a wealthy family and his parents were able to send him to law school without a problem, but he never mentions it and nobody could tell it to look at him. He wears plain clothes and army boots. He struggles with his grades, not for lack of intelligence, effort or enthusiasm, but for getting into constant philosophical battles and heated arguments with professors that often end with him being kicked out of class and occasionally police being called. He runs the radical socialist club Les Amis de l'ABC and stages protests multiple times each professor. He has been arrested several times and is infamous for getting into fist fights, especially with anyone who brings up the topic of American or French politics and supports the hard right.

Grantaire: Grantaire is philosophy major. His parents pay to keep him in school and out of their hair. He’s often one of the brightest students in each of his classes, and when he is not irritating his professors by never shutting up they enjoy having him in class for his deep discussions. Despite the fact that he reads all of the class material and beyond for the sake of one-upping the teacher each lesson, he has entirely failing grades simply because he cannot be bothered to do any of the homework assignments.
