He never thought he would ever look forward to waking up each morning but now he does. He sits up and there’s Jungkook sleeping beside him his eyes shut tightly and his mouth opens just a little. He is deep in sleep. Jimin gets up careful not to wake up Jungkook who just stirs a little and Jimin kisses his forehead before he is walking to the kitchen to make breakfast.
He decides pancakes for today and starts making the batter while he is smiling to himself. He can’t stop because everything is going so great and he is so happy with all of it.
When he finishes the pancakes he stacks them up and heads to the shower. When he comes back he finds a sleepy Jungkook already munching on the pancakes.
“Jiminie,” he says.
“Morning,” Jimin smiles as he sits down and Jungkook kisses him.
“Your breath smells,” Jimin says making a face and Jungkook chuckles while sneaking in another kiss.
They continue to eat their breakfast while Jimin talks about Uni and Jungkook listens and when he is done Jimin grabs his backpack and leaves for University but not before another kiss and hug from Jungkook.
University is as it always has been and Jimin is glad he didn’t miss much when he had to stay home and with some extra time he can be sure to catch up. Of course, there is always the tension of the fast approaching finals that daunts him constantly.
Jimin really needs that scholarship.
After University is done he heads straight to the diner and finds Seokjin and Hoseok busy cleaning up the place.
“Hey,” Hoseok says.
“Jimin,” Seokjin says. “You weren’t here yesterday”
“Yeah, I was a bit sick,” Jimin says.
“Of course you were, look how skinny you are,” Seokjin tuts. “You need to eat”
Jimin chuckles nervously and grabs the mop as he gets to work too and they open up for customers and soon the diner starts filling in as Jinyoung comes in too and him and Seokjin start pushing out orders and by the time it’s 9 Seokjin decides to close down just as Namjoon comes in too.
Jimin’s official working hours end at 6 but he doesn’t mind working extra because Seokjin always pays him for extra time and money is something that he always needs.
When he is done doing the cleaning he leaves saying his goodbyes to Namjoon and Seokjin who barely listen as Namjoon is standing with his fingers laced into Seokjin’s and a big smile on his face. Jimin smiles to himself glad that they don’t have to hide their love in front of him.
Just as he is done with his work Jungkook is in the front of the diner grinning and Jimin gets in smiling but it fades when he sees a bandage covering Jungkook’s cheek. He takes Jungkook’s face examining it with worry.
“What happened?” he asks.
“It’s nothing just a little scratch,” Jungkook reassures him.
“Jungkook you told me you won’t get into fights…,”
“Baby, it wasn’t a fight just a few punches here and there okay,” Jungkook says. “You don’t have to worry”
“I hate seeing you hurt,”
“I know and I promise I’ll take care of myself okay,” Jungkook says.
Jimin just nods biting his lips.
“Now come on we are going on a date,” Jungkook says.
“Yeah, a date and a proper one in a fancy ass restaurant,” Jungkook says.
“We’re going,” Jungkook says with a tone that means no more arguing.
“Fine,” Jimin huffs.
Jungkook quickly pecks Jimin’s cheek and starts the car while Jimin stares at the window and it seems like they are going to the fancier parts of the city. Jimin had been there once or twice with his mother when they would just wander and Jimin would watch the big houses and the shops in awe. It looked like a castle compared to their studio.
Jungkook finally stops his car in front of a restaurant and Jimin gulps. It looks like the fanciest place Jimin has ever been to.
He feels Jungkook’s hands grab his as he smiles at Jimin.
“Come on let’s go,” Jungkook says.
They walk in and the guy at the reception seems better dressed than either of them as he eyes them in a peculiar manner.
“We have a reservation in the name of Jeon,” Jungkook says.
“Let me see,” he says as he goes through his book and his face turns into a frown as he closes the book with a slam.
“Follow me,” he says.
They walk as Jimin’s grip tightens around Jungkook’s wrist. He looks around and the décor is so exquisite that Jimin can only imagine how much the food would cost.
“Here,” the man says.
Jungkook and Jimin sit down and as expected wondering who let these delinquents in this restaurant.
The man leaves and they are joined by the waiter who hands them a menu card and Jimin is afraid he is gonna stain them because they look so good unlike the stained ones back at Seokjin’s diner.
“I want a good champagne what do you recommend?” Jungkook asks the waiter and the waiter begins to list out names that Jimin has never heard before so Jimin just reads the menu and it is filled with things he can’t even pronounce the name of, that’s when you know something is expensive Jimin thinks.
Jimin ends up mumbling the name of the dish that seems to be the least expensive and the waiter is probably judging him as he jots down the name on the small notepad before leaving and another one comes along pouring champagne in tall wine glasses before he leaves too.
Jungkook takes a sip of the champagne and Jimin takes a sip of the bubbly liquid and it is definitely better than the beer and vodka he has tasted as he takes another sip satisfied.
“So, do you like it?”
‘It’s so fancy,” Jimin says. “Also it’s nice not being the waiter for once”
At that Jungkook chuckles as their water returns and places salad in front of them before leaving.
“That is it?’ Jimin asks. “It was just a salad”
“Guess so,” Jungkook says as he takes a small bite. “It seems tasty though”
Jimin takes a bite and he has to agree that it is the best damn salad he has ever tasted in his life.
He takes a sip of champagne and he feels Jungkook holding his hand from over the table with a little smile. Jungkook and him are never open with their affection mainly because people around them don’t feel the same way and this sudden movement surprises him as he looks around and finds a man looking at them and then looking away immediately.
“People…people are staring,”
“Who cares?” Jungkook says. “Let them”
Jimin purses his lips as Jungkook holds up his hands and kisses them lightly and Jimin looks away blushing.
“I love you,” he says.
“I love you too,”
Jimin and Jungkook finish their dinner and champagne and they leave while Jungkook has a hand around his waist and they are just the slightest bit tipsy.
They drive back home and fall asleep into each other’s arms.
The week passes just like that and Jungkook buys Jimin a gift of brand new sneakers.
“Kookie you didn’t have to,”
“Shush, just take it,” Jungkook says and Jimin very carefully opens the box and inside are new shiny Nike sneakers and it is the most expensive shoes Jimin has ever seen.
“Do you like it?” Jungkook asks.
“Of course, I do,” Jimin says as he takes out one and Jungkook smiles leaning in to kiss him.
“I didn’t like you see wearing those worn out sneakers,”
“They were actually quite comfortable…,” Jimin begins.
“Sure,” Jungkook says as he forces Jimin to wear the sneakers and Jimin is very happy because no one really ever noticed things about him and ask him if he is doing. He doesn’t blame his mother because she never had enough money to buy new things for him and now he has Jungkook and it’s just a bit overwhelming as he feels tears forming in his eyes and of course Jungkook is quick to notice.
“You okay, baby?” Jungkook asks his voice laced with concern.
“Yes, thank you,” Jimin says as he kisses Jungkook. “I really love you”
Later that week Jimin decides to visit his mother but this time he isn’t alone as he feels Jungkook’s hands in his. They are walking down the hallways and the nurses smile at Jimin while eyeing Jungkook and they are finally in the room where Jimin’s mother is.
Jimin goes in and Jungkook follows looking nervous and Jimin doesn’t understand because it isn’t like his mother would say anything to him. Jimin first replaces the withered flowers with fresh ones before sitting down on the bed and Jungkook hesitantly sits on the stool.
“Hey mom,” Jimin says. “How have you been?”
Jimin knows there won’t be a reply and that he probably looks crazy to Jungkook talking to his mother in a coma.
“Hi…hi Mrs. Park,” Jungkook says.
Jimin looks at him with a smile before taking her hand in his and he notices the wrinkles and his heart breaks a little.
“So, I brought someone special for you to meet,” Jimin says. “This is Jungkook”
“You know the last time I came here I told you about the boy I had fallen in love. This is him, Jungkook”
Jungkook is sitting on the stool tight-lipped.
“I don’t know if you like him or if you are already feeling like he is a bad influence on me but give him a chance,” Jimin says. “He is really nice”
Jimin feels Jungkook squeezing his hand and his other lightly touches his mother’s wrist.
“I love your son,” he says. “For me, he is my everything and I understand if you have your doubts about me but I hope you are willing to give me a chance”
There’s no response. There never will be but Jimin smiles at Jungkook.
“I am sure she does,”
For the remainder of time Jimin talks about how his week went, and how is Uni going and what happened at the diner while Jungkook listens and when it’s finally time to leave Jimin leans in pressing a kiss on her forehead.
“I love you mom,” he says. “I’ll come soon and I’ll bring Jungkook with me again.
“Goodbye Mrs. Park,” Jungkook says.
They leave closing the door and silently walk back to Jungkook’s truck.
“That was…,” Jungkook says as he places his hands on the steering wheel.
“No, interesting,” Jungkook says. “I liked it and I would like to come again”
“You can,” Jimin says. “I am sure mom won’t mind extra company”
Jimin is glad that Jungkook didn’t question him about talking to his mother and instead went along with it as if his mother was in the room and he looks at Jungkook fondly because sometimes he feels he has gotten too lucky.
How is Jungkook so perfect? Jimin wonders.
Maybe he just is he thinks as he slips his hand in Jungkook’s and he sees the other smiling. They go up to the hills and spend the rest of the evening there even though there aren’t many stars, the night sky is still calm and serene as Jungkook lies on Jimin’s lap staring up at it while a cigarette dangles in his mouth and his other hand is wrapped around his condensing can of beer and Jimin tries hard not to kiss him.
“Sometimes I get scared,” Jungkook says.
“Scared?” Jimin questions.
Jungkook nods as he blows out some smoke.
“Yeah,” Jungkook says as he sits up looking Jimin directly into the eyes. “I don’t want to lose you”
“I am never leaving you, you know that Jungkook,”
“It’s more about me fucking up,” Jungkook says. “I am an idiot and I don’t want to screw up things with you”
“You won’t,” Jimin says in an assuring tone.
“It’s just that I never cared about someone as much as I do about you,” Jungkook says. “Sure, I care about my hyungs and Yugyeom and everyone else but it was different and I was a piece of shit back then…and I still kinda am now but you Jimin you make me want to be a better person. Fuck, I can’t even explain it,”
Jimin doesn’t say anything so Jungkook continues.
“You know I used to get shitfaced drunk all the times and cause brawls a lot but ever since I met you I wanted to be a better person,” Jungkook says. “I still am a piece of shit in many ways but I am being a better person now”
“As cheesy as it sounds,” Jungkook says. “You changed me”
Jimin doesn’t know what to say to all this and his brain turns into mush as he opens his mouth but no words come out.
“You don’t have to say anything, you know,” Jungkook says.
Jimin just nods as Jungkook checks his home.
“Shit, it’s like 12, we should go home,”
They get out from the back of the truck and Jungkook immediately puts on The Smiths and Jimin is distracted by the music and he quietly listens to it all the way back to home.
When they get home Jimin changes and finds Jungkook already lying on the bed only his boxers and his bare skin still alarms Jimin who sleeps fully clothed.
Jimin gets into the bed and Jungkook turns off the lamp and Jimin proceeds to lie on Jungkook’s chest.
“You changed me too, you know,” he says and there is no reply from Jungkook who just pulls him closer and just kisses him on the top of his head.
Jimin smiles to himself as he closes his eyes falling asleep.
Jimin when walks into the diner notices that something is different at least in Seokjin’s face who seems like he is practically glowing. Now the other has always been very positive even when they had little to no customers in the diner but this is a different kind of glow and Jimin notices that he is just staring at his hands smiling himself.
“You okay?” Jimin asks.
Seokjin looks up with wide eyes at Jimin.
“Uh, yeah I am great…uh fine,” he says awkwardly scratching the back of his head.
“You seem very happy hyung,” Jimin says.
“Well, I am,” he says. “Very happy”
“What is it?” Jimin asks as he takes a seat on one of the counter seats.
“I uh…,” Seokjin trails off blushing.
“It’s okay you don’t have to tell,”
“I uh I am so you know…Namjoon he proposed to me,”
“Keep it down,” Seokjin says even though they haven’t even opened yet.
“Sorry but when and how?”
“Yesterday night,” Seokjin says. “And nothing fancy…I found the ring in his shirt when I wanted to put it in the washing machine and I asked him about it and he just kneeled down and asked if I would like to marry him?”
“Oh my god,”
“He was actually planning to do it over a dinner but he said I ‘ruined’ it,” Seokjin says. “Gosh he can be such an idiot sometimes actually all the time if I’m being honest”
“Well, congratulations hyung,” Jimin says.
“Thank you Jimin,” Seokjin smiles. “Anyway, how are things with Jungkook?”
“It’s been all good,” Jimin says. “He is really nice”
“I am sure he is,” Seokjin says. “I am so glad you found someone for yourself”
“Yeah, me too,” Jimin says. “How long have you been seeing Namjoon hyung?”
“Over 3 years now,”
“Really? Then why did he never come to the diner up until now?”
“When we first started dating we tried our best to not spend too much time in public but then we got tired of hiding so now Namjoon doesn’t mind being seen with me in public and he has helped me a lot with everything here,”
Just then Jinyoung comes in and flashes a smile at both of them before he heads inside to change. Jinyoung is a Uni student just like Jimin and Jimin doesn’t know him all that much mainly because he is always in the back with Seokjin but he seems really nice.
“Well, I guess we gotta open now,”
Jimin nods as he gets up and grabs his notebook before he goes to every single one of the tables to make sure everything is in order.
Soon, customers start coming but there is no sign of Hoseok anywhere so Jimin has a really hard time keeping up with all the orders and he gets yelled at many times but he apologizes each time trying to get everything on track. He is more than glad when Seokjin finally decides to close the diner at 8.
“I wonder where Hoseok was,” Seokjin says.
“Did he have some dance competition?” Jimin asks.
“He always tells me when he has one of those,” Seokjin says. “I even called him but he won’t pick up”
“Oh,” Jimin says. He can’t help but worry about Hoseok’s wellbeing as he tries to reassure himself that he must be okay.
Jungkook is supposed to pick him up so Jimin waits but it’s over a half an hour and there is no sign of Jungkook so Jimin calls him several times but there is no answer. Jimin thinks that Jungkook must be really busy or something so he walks to the bus stop. The bus stop where he rarely goes anymore because Jungkook always picks him up and the place is like from a distant memory reminding how Jimin used to look over at Jungkook at other side of the road on the cement benches while he used to smoke and how much he wanted to look away but he never could. It’s hard to believe that it’s almost been a year since all that.
When Jimin reaches the bus stop he looks over at the place again and he frowns as he sees a face that can only be Hoseok and next to him is none other than Yoongi and he finally sees Jungkook holding back Yoongi in some way. Something is definitely wrong.
Jimin immediately crosses over to the other side and he sees Yoongi struggle in Jungkook’s grip before he pushes him off and punches Taehyung right on the face. Jimin covers his mouth shocked as another blow hits on Taehyung’s stomach and by now Taehyung is on the floor groaning in pain.
“You fucking…,” Yoongi says.
“Yoongi please stop,” Hoseok screams. “You can’t do this to him”
Jimin doesn’t even know how on earth Hoseok knows Yoongi but he sees Hoseok grabbing Yoongi’s collar and slamming him into the wall.
“You don’t own me,”
“I told you to stay the fuck away from this,” Yoongi says. “This is between me and him”
“And you are fighting over?” Hoseok says.
At this Yoongi is silent.
Hoseok let goes of Yoongi’s collar and Jimin sees Yugyeom helping up Taehyung back on his feet.
Yoongi sees it and once again heads to punch Taehyung only to be held back by Jungkook.
“It wasn’t even his fault,” Hoseok says. “He didn’t even know that you are my ex”
“But you did,” Yoongi retorts. “You knew him and yet you hooked up with him and have been for the past three months”
“Then punch me Yoongi,” Hoseok says. “Why punch him?”
Yoongi stays silent his chest huffing up and down and Jungkook still has him in his grip as Taehyung is finally on his feet, his lip is bleeding and his head split open he looks like a mess.
“Don’t even fucking try,” Yoongi says trying to break off and Yugyeom immediately shields him.
Hoseok walks to Taehyung taking his hands in his.
“Tae…I am really sorry,” he says but Taehyung doesn’t respond.
Hoseok bites his lip as he takes one last look at Taehyung before looking at Yoongi and Jimin has never seen the generally the calm mannered man look so livid.
“You better stay the fuck away from Tae and me Min Yoongi,” he says as he walks off and Yoongi seems to have calmed down a bit.
“Let me go,” he says.
Jungkook doesn’t loosen his grip.
“Fucking hell Jungkook let me go,”
This time Jungkook frees his grip and Yoongi walks off in the opposite direction immediately lighting a cigarette and Jungkook watches Yoongi go away until his eyes catch Jimin.
“Jimin what are you doing here?”
“Did you…did you?”
“Yeah,” Jimin cuts him off. “We should check on Taehyung though”
Jungkook nods as Taehyung is sitting down with Yugyeom looking visibly shaken by everything that has just happened and Yugyeom is trying to comfort him.
“I…I never meant to hurt hyung,” Taehyung says. “It just happened”
“We know,” Jungkook says. “Come on now let’s get you home”
At that Taehyung laughs in a hollow manner. He shares with Yoongi because he has always adored the other and living completely alone doesn’t appeal to him but now Taehyung doesn’t have a home.
“You can come to our place,” Jimin immediately offers and Taehyung just nods.
“You should go home Yugyeom,” Jungkook says. “We’ll take care of Taehyung”
Yugyeom just nods before hugging Taehyung.
“Take care hyung,”
Taehyung nods as he stands up too with great difficulty and Jimin and Jungkook help him get into the truck and drive back to their flat while Taehyung is completely quiet and Jimin wants to make him feel better but he doesn’t know how to.
When they get home Jungkook immediately begins treating Taehyung’s wounds and he doesn’t even flinch too far gone while Jimin cooks them dinner. They don’t bother talking to him as he seems content in his own headspace hardly eating the ramen noodles that is in front of him.
Jimin looks at Jungkook who seems nervous as hell and Jimin feels bad that Jungkook has to see two of his brothers fight.
When dinner is done Jungkook asks Taehyung if he is okay with sleeping on the couch to which Taehyung just nods. He has changed into Jungkook’s clothes and looks less of a mess than earlier.
“You know,” he suddenly says. “If I had known he was hyung’s ex-boyfriend I would have never…,”
He looks on the verge of crying and Jungkook immediately hugs him.
“Shush it’s not your fault okay,”
Taehyung just nods into Jungkook’s embrace.
“Thank you for everything Jimin and Kookie,” he says as he looks at them. “I am grateful”
“It’s nothing,” Jimin says squeezing Taehyung’s shoulder. “You should sleep now though”
Taehyung nods as he lies down and Jungkook stands up turning off the lights and they head inside their bedroom as Jungkook lets out a long sigh.
“God, I hate this,”
“I am so sorry this is happening,” Jimin says.
“I have never seen Yoongi hyung so livid,” Jungkook says. “But I guess it was because he really did love that guy…and after him he never really dated anyone”
“Yeah,” Jungkook says. “My head hurts”
“You should rest now yeah,”
Jungkook nods and Jimin turns off the light as the both lie down and sleep doesn’t come to Jimin, his head warped in thoughts about Taehyung, Hoseok, and Yoongi.
