learning about

One of my favourite things about Falsettos getting a revival is how different it is from the original production. I mean, fundamentally the plot is the same, but there are little differences that I think improve upon the show as a whole.

Example: Marvin and Whizzer’s relationship in 1992 was very subdued. They talked about their passionate love affair, and you had no doubt they were together but it just didn’t seem like they had the spark they claimed to have. There were a few moments (the racquetball games, What More Can I Say?, the baseball game) where I could believe it but for the most part I didn’t pick up on it. But in the revival (which I haven’t even seen, by the way, just GIFs and a few clips) Christian Borle and Andrew Rannells are all over each other. They’re just…touching all the time, in the over-stated, passionate way I’d expect from any love affair that Whizzer Brown has. And the true can be said for Charlotte and Cordelia, to a lesser extent. I had no trouble seeing that Charlotte and Cordelia were in love, but it’s more present, more visible in the revival. And other little things too (like Stephanie J. Block saying the word dicks)

My point is that there are differences between the revival and the original production that I think boil down to when they were made. We’re more relaxed with what we allow in our media these days. We no longer balk at the image of two men nearly making out on stage, we don’t titter at the same words we used to (i.e. the word dicks) and we don’t have the same opinions we used to have about…everything. So it gives us a little more freedom, a little more room to push the envelope a little and I think that’s lovely.

F*TA IS A FETISH, EXISTING ONLY TO BRING BONERS

@radicalfreedomforall said: Lol that’s okay. I guess what is your head canon for things Asgore does as a dad?

Hmm.. I have one!

Asgore loves to read and tell stories to Asriel and Chara - especially bedtime stories. If he can’t find a good book to read, he tells stories of the surface world. Sometimes Toriel joins in and they tell stories together!

Favorite childhood memory?

Ok, so for context, a “greenbelt” is basically a bit of unaltered land that the city required to stay instead of being used for building. For our old neighborhood that basically meant there was a mini forest a bit lowered from sidewalk level, literally right next to our house.

Pretty much every kid on our block played in it. Some parents even got involved, they helped us all build a small fort and even a zipline down in there! Mabel and I would spend hours in there. One kid climbed to the top of a tree that had to have been at least 60 feet tall and got in a ton of trouble. One summer the kid across the street and I caught literally every caterpillar we could find and they were never seen in that large of an amount ever again. We all basically formed a club and it was so much fun, every single day!

Eventually some kid broke their arm using the zipline, though, and the neighborhood put up a sign that banned people from going down there anymore… But still. Good times!

A few days later, Asher and the boys were on the basketball court practicing for their upcoming game. They were undefeated last year and intended to do the same for this one. With Asher as their Captain and point guard, how could they lose?

So, I live close enough to my work, that I can go home for lunch and just decompress for a little bit during the day. And since I’m making my way through the Citadel DLC, today I decided to meet up with some of my squad for friend dates. My goal was to get Alli as far as being able to call Hannah because FEELS. But I also realized something while Alli flew around with Cortez: She has not one but two Hannah Shepard fanboys on her crew.

So, Hannah is kind of a Big Deal in the Alliance Navy. Like, not just in terms of political or social clout. She has an almost legendary reputation. She stood out as a skilled combat pilot early in her career, but after she led the air assault to retake Shanxi, her profile was raised across the board. Oh, and of course, the story of her crash landing on an alien planet, trekking through completely unfamiliar wilderness, and surviving went a long way toward solidifying her rep as a Total. BAMF. (And no one except a small handful of people even knows the half of it.) New recruits into the flight program learn about Hannah Fucking Shepard pretty immediately. And in the case of people who grow up around military outposts, like Joker on Arcturus, they learn about who she is early on. Everyone knows she’s Admiral Drescher’s confidant and right hand, and a posting to Hannah’s command is considered a major accomplishment.

And she’s completely oblivious to all of this.

As far as Hannah is concerned, she just shows up to work and does her job. No one fawns over her or asks for an autograph or anything because that would be awkward, and if someone seems intimidated by her, she chalks it up to a difference in rank and does her best to make them feel more comfortable. It never really occurs to her that they might be intimidated by her mythos.

Alli is a little more aware of Hannah’s celebrity, but she doesn’t tell her mom about it because it would make her uncomfortable. But Alli is not aware that Joker wanted to become a pilot because he looked up to Hannah, or that the pilots in Cortez’s cohort would rate each other’s performance on a scale of 1 to Shepard. Of course neither Joker nor Cortez is given to being starstruck, so they keep it to themselves how happy they are to work with the daughter of Captain/Rear Admiral Hannah Shepard, the Storm of Shanxi, the Defender of Mindoir. When they see Alli work, their reactions are pretty much, “Yeah, that makes sense.”

I've always imagined that founders era witches and wizards were pretty far separated. Like, the trade of magical information was poor at best, and any understanding of technique or ability was passed through generations. The founders knew what they did through traveling to different places (each for their own thought out reasons in my own mind), and eventually figured the best way to save as many of their own kind as they could would be to teach the youngest survival skills. (1/2)

{{{(2/2) -survival skills. So initially I imagine Hogwarts to have been word-of-mouth whispers between as many magical contacts as the founders had accumulated until a way of finding students without alerting muggles could be sussed. I also imagine they cut the age at 17, because that was an age that they considered old enough to be teaching those younger than them and because most of that age or older were working and making families. I also imagine early Hogwarts to be year-round.}}}

sometimes “doing your best” is being top of your class, straight As, etc. sometimes “doing your best” is just showing up to class without your homework and sleeping through half of it because that’s the best you can do. be proud of yourself either way.
