learn the damn difference

“If foreign names are so hard why don’t you have trouble pronouncing [insert celebrity here]?”

Because their name is well-known and repeated throughout TVs and newspapers and magazines EVERYWHERE so naturally, people will become familiar with names they’ve heard a lot and know how to pronounce them properly.

It’s not a conspiracy to purposely mispronounce your non-English name, nor is it English speakers not caring enough. We just haven’t heard your name a million times.

Daily reminder that if you ship narumitsu, narumayo, junipollo, justicykes, franmaya, klapollo, cykesquill, klema, hobopollo, trupearl, lanamia, miego, junithena, blackbright, etc, etc…

Then KEEP ON SHIPPING IT AND LET NO ONE SHAME YOU FOR IT. I know I’ve talked about the issue of ship wars in the past, but we really, REALLY need to stop with all the ship hate in this fandom; it’s disgusting, and it it makes the fandom feel very toxic and unwelcoming when SOME OF YOU act like pretentious babies and act as if only the ships YOU ship are the ‘unproblematic’ ships.

Now I’m not saying you CAN’T have a NOTP: we all do. And that’s okay. But what ISN’T okay is when you’re throwing blatant ship hate into the main tag or the ship tags: it’s not cute. And it makes you look like an asshole, to be honest.

So in short: learn to accept the fact that everyone’s going to ship different ships and you have no right to call anyone ‘disgusting’ for shipping your NOTP. So do yourself a favor and talk only about the ships you do like and shut up about the ones you don’t: make this fandom feel like a WELCOMING one and not one full of condescending, bitter children.

Being in love is great, don’t get me wrong. The kisses, the “I miss you” hugs, the cuddling, the love. Everything about falling in love is what makes a person remember how great it feels to have butterflies in your stomach and to have your heart beat so fast that your chest is going to explode. Being in love with someone is amazing. But being in love with your best friend, god that is fucking the best thing I could ever ask for. Being in love with the person that makes you laugh so hard that you nearly have snot coming out your right nostril and makes your stomach turn inside out. Being in love with the person that you share secrets with and gossip about people with, the person that says “fuck her baby, she don’t know a damn thing” kind of best friend. The person that you can lay next to at night and can’t sleep until 3 am because you were talking about how people can’t learn their damn differences between they’re, their, and there, and then laugh about it. The person that you argue with about what kind of food you want to eat, or who’s going to be the one to get up from the bed and turn off the light. The person that you can lick their face and they won’t look back at you with a confused face, but sticks their finger up your nose. The person that won’t only being the shoulder to cry on, but the shoulder that will bring you back up and make you stronger than before. The person that will tell you whats wrong and whats bothering them instead of being distant and ignore the situation. Loving someone that you can share memories and laughs with, god it is beautiful. Being in love is great, don’t get me wrong. But being in love with your best friend, that is the most wonderful thing I could ever ask for.

Destroy the god damn motherfucking concept of Bughead not being an option with asexual Jughead, especially when all of the motherfuckers touting this line call him “aromantic” but SHIP HIM WITH ARCHIE.

Destroy the god damn motherfucking concept already, AND LEARN THE GOD DAMN DIFFERENCE OF ASEXUAL AND AROMANTIC AND BIROMAN AND BISEXUAL AND HOMOROMANTIC AND STOP APPEARING TO BE LGBTQ+ FRIENDLY

Jimin haters

Mama never taught you jack. Learn the difference between dissing and criticism. Damn. Some people are so weak.

Just because I defended the boy doesn’t mean I think the sun shines out of his ass mate I’m a logical 24 year old. If he does shit I do talk about it. I usually don’t get involved in fights unless it’s stupid.

You wanna act like you give a shit about him at all, tell him to wake up and get real. Calling him an attention whore and a fuckboi and tagging his damn name like- whatchu tryna prove?

What’s your motive? Defame him? Show the rest of the fandom why you shouldn’t like Jimin? Yo. Wake up? He’s gonna continue to be in the damn band whether you like it or not.

Don’t like? Don’t endorse. Maybe read a damn dictionary. You’d think generations of being oppressed would’ve taught you to think in the other person’s shoes better.

Don’t be a passive aggressive keyboard warrior. Hide in the shadows.. delete comments you don’t like and block people. Make it look like people agree with you when more people don’t.

Grow up or get out.

anonymous asked:

Could you recommend some books that helped you learn to draw?

I get questions about my process/requests for advice a lot, and I almost never respond, because I don’t know what to say and my advice can basically be summed up as- mess about until you figure it out. No one can impress an artistic idea upon you until you are capable of seeing it on your own.

BUT- I do have an answer, in this case.  Here are some books that taught me many things about art and the craft of drawing.

Drawing Lessons from the Great Masters, by Robert Hale
This is a classic that’s been in print since the 60s, and for good reason.  It teaches you not only anatomy and how to represent it, but, more importantly, how to learn from the art you observe.  It will change the way you look at models, your own representative work, and the work of your favorite artists.  I use the observation techniques I learned from this book every damn day.  It’s got like 10 different covers, but mine has this ugly head on it.

Figure Drawing for All It’s Worth, by Andrew Loomis
Another classic, this one from the 40s. The purports to be a figure drawing book, and it is, but it also has lots of lessons on expression, mood, and design.  It came out of one of the high points in advertising and graphic illustration, and focuses on clean lines, expressivity, and realism.  Many many artists love this book, and will tell you about it at length.

Making Faces, by Kevyn Aucoin
This book showed up at my house when I was about 12, and it completely changed how I look at characterization and visual shorthand.  Legendary makeup artist Kevyn Aucoin (RIP) taught me so much about shading, mood, and how to use cliche to achieve my goals.  Outside of being an amazing resource on the actual application of makeup, there’s loads about performing personality and gender through visual cues.  What makes a brow line “masculine?”  How do you convey innocence?  How do you approach the giant hill of not making every face look the same, but giving them all the same amount of life and interest? This book will give it to you.

Graphic Storytelling and Visual Narrative, by Will Eisner
Will Eisner taught me how to divorce interest from beauty.  His work on the understanding of graphic storytelling is less well known now than some of his proteges’, including Scott McCloud (Understanding Comics, by McCloud, is also amazing) but Eisner is the one who set down the rules that McCloud expounds upon in his own work.  A lot of people don’t love this work because it feels basic- he tells you how to communicate through cliches and quick cues.  And that’s antiquated, because we like to subvert tropes and add layers of symbolism over our storytelling today.  But it’s still a great foundation of rules to understand and then cheerfully break.

Dinotopia, by James Gurney
When I was a kid, I was obsessed with National Geographic.  Back in the 80s and 90s, they used illustrators, including James Gurney, to illustrate what life was like on a Roman war ship, or what ancient Minos might have looked like.  Dinotopia took everything that I loved about “real” illustration, fine art, scientific and graphic illustration, and gave me my first hints of possibility.  You CAN be a great artist and still draw your dreams.  You can have a sense of bigness and possibility and also use all the craftsmanship and skill of a “real” artist.  This all feels obvious now, but my copy of Dinotopia (with intact dustcover) follows me wherever I go, and continues to inspire me every day.

Im not really shipping the “Chryce” thing because somehow its out of respect for the two. Yes they do have powerful chemistry on and off screen. And their friendship is real. They both have great marriage and adorable kids so I just cant picture them being together and ruin a beautiful family just for the sake… we gotta learn our boundaries.

But for CLAWEN… damn woman its a whole different story hands down im gonna slide 3 dollars to any producers right off the bat on the table to give me another movie starring chris and bryce

If you can’t stop defining men’s rights activism as a whole because of redpillers and accuse intersectional MRAs of being misogynistic and transphobic, then you absolutely need to step back and actually do research on all of men’s rights activism because likely the only thing you know about it are preconceived notions that your tumblrinas taught you.

First of all, most of us are not hating on Thea. Learn the damn difference between hate and criticism. You cannot tell me you didn’t smell the bullshit when Thea justified Oliver’s lie. ESPECIALLY when she herself was lied to about her own paternity. Especially when her own father made her kill Sara w/o her own free will. Especially when Oliver and the team had to hide their identity from Thea for three and a half seasons. So don’t sit there and tell me you didn’t see anything wrong with that. Don’t sit there and tell me why I thought Thea “Why is it so hard for everyone to tell the truth” Queen was out of character.

Malec kiss rant for da haters of that beautiful moment

i’m glad most of the reactions have been positive. <3

HOWEVER

“the malec kiss was rushed, should have been private, magnus manipulated alec-”

Okay people listen up. That kiss was perfect because none of those things happened. It was not rushed, The finale is the next episode like ???? how much longer were we supposed to wait. More importantly, since they met it has been this cat and mouse game where Alec’s intentions were not very clear for Magnus but we as the audience have seen Magnus does affect Alec plenty (longing looks, Alec opening up to Magnus when he doesn’t open up to anyone till he talks to Jace at his bachelor party about FEELINGS, alt. universe). It was build up and it was gorgeously done.

Should have been private??? you mean Alec should have suffered over his sexuality issues longer?Malec should have hidden their relationship because its shameful??? I get liking the torture aspect of a hidden love but this is so much more of a positive message to put out there. If you think this kiss will solve all the problems for Malec you are wrong. Maryse’s reaction is enough to hint at that. Show! Alec is a leader and he made a decision for himself and his happiness and I am all for it. Also shout otu to the show writers for making Maryse the one with the issue more than Robert be/c the ‘dad doesn’t approve of your gay relationship’ trope gets old. Besides they have shown Maryse to be the one with the family agenda more than Robert and her relationship with alec has been highlighted much more.

Lastly, the point that pisses me off the most about the kiss haters, please look up the words ‘manipulative’, ‘predator’ and ‘abusive’. Like BITCH WHERE. Alec already in the episode called Magnus out when he was being impossible for not having as much to lose and being ingenuine with feelings while exepecting Alec to be true. And i was proud of Alec for it because magnus did need to be called out then. but once we know a bit more about magnus’s past and how ppl constantly break his heart like…how can you say him walking in to the wedding to follow his heart is manipulative? No he should not have sat down or backed off from Alec’s stare or not shown up. He met that boy’s stare and he waited for him to make a decision. Magnus has never even touched Alec without his consent you damn haters. Alec only looked away from Magnus for a second to talk to Lydia (which i loved b/c the writer were like to hell with another trope and made Lydia amazing in that moment). Yes, magnus went to stop that wedding but you never hear straight otp’s who do that being described as predators or manipulative. they are usually called romantic. check your privilege, straights. Even Simon pointed out a very great comparison to the graduate. I don’t hear anyone calling dustin hoffman in that movie a damn predator.
I think people need to realize that book alec and magnus are different from show alec and magnus. furthermore, they need to understand how their in-grown homophobic tendencies come off. Clearly you ship Malec so you aren’t against the gays. congrats. but thinking of magnus as a predator to alec and thinking that they should suffer and be in hiding is playing into the fears of being gay. the show is doing something great and modernizing the story . they are showing what it could be like for magnus and alec in this a bit better climate for gay people we are living in.  most importantly, they are breaking away from certain tropes the gay community is tired of/finds offensive. (go to the 100 if you want to keep at old tropes of pain and suffering for the gays, while you are at it note the difference in poc treatment and learn to give a damn for both).
As book readers we should know Malec has plenty of hurdles in front of them to face. Them having a lovely , dramatic, swoon-worthy romantic kiss should not be one of them.

end rant.

I have a weird thing where I don’t let people see pictures of me from before 2012 because I really hated how I looked back then I was so self conscious and I didn’t think I would ever like myself or the way that I look

so here’s proof that no, you aren’t going to look like your 12 year old self forever

you will learn to love yourself

and you will learn just how beautiful you really are

and damn, what a difference seven years make

(first 4 pics are me in 2008, last 4 pics are 2015)

No one that complains about SP is doing so JUST because the animation isn’t the best. It’s common knowledge that this studio was hired not for it’s superb work, but because Naruto was ongoing and had to work cheap. It’s also known that animating is A LOT OF WORK. No one discredits the work the people there are doing.

However, there ARE people making deliberate decisions that contradict the source material. Sakura’s design concept being ugly and boyish has nothing to do with the hundreds of animators creating thousands of drawings. What people need to get is that there is usually a conceptual artist who makes the designs. That’s why we have concept art. It’s for the animators to copy their work from.

Besides the conceptual art, there’s filler. Filler that usually either has pretty good stories or material that just makes certain characters (mainly Sakura) act ooc and horrible. What does poor WRITING have to do with the animators? What does Sakura constantly being belittled in the anime in comparison to Hinata have to do with the animators being worked to death? Nothing. Nothing at all. I feel for them, I do. Art school was hard enough for me, I can’t imagine how working as an animator must be. But that and what we complain about are completely different things.

Not that animators are completely blameless, meaning that they also tend to have a huge ass bias too that you can see in some episodes where one character will be animated awfully (Sakura and karin while trying to save Naruto and Sasuke) while another will be animated beautifully (hinata while tripping in that same episode). But this depends on the teams. It’s not the same animators that work on every episode, so this is where things get sketchy, but the point is that there is a clear bias in the writing and the art against my favorite character and even my favorite pairing, and pointing out that there are people over there acting unprofessional isn’t discrediting the animators work. Learn the damn difference already.

The kids in the K-pop fandoms need to figure out the difference between “Talent” which they are born with, and “Skill” which they work for years at. Learn the damn difference. Most Idols aren’t “Talented” They’re “Skilled”. Sure. There are some Idols who are talented and have only a very small Trainee period. But most of them have to work hard to build up SKILLS.
