Mt. Etna has been erupting for hundreds of thousands of years. Located in Sicily, Italy, the volcano produces lava fountains over one kilometer high. Mt. Etna is not only one of the most active volcanoes on Earth, it is one of the largest, measuring over 50 kilometers at its base and rising nearly 3 kilometers high!!
Pictured in mid-March, a spectacular lava plume erupts upwards, dangerous molten volcanic bombs fly off to the sides, while hot lava flows down the volcano’s exterior. The Earth’s rotation is discernable on this carefully time, moon-lit, long duration image as star trails.
Io is full of highly active volcanism. The surface is a hellish place. It’s hot and constantly errupting. It’s believed that the moon is super hot because of the force of Jupiter’s gravity constantly pulling on it, creating heat.
The eruptions glow bright colors because it’s shooting ions into space. Now that’s cool.

Pokemon Card of the Day #1005: Magcargo (Great Encounters)
Magcargo was not a complicated Pokemon. It looked very similar to many other Pokemon of the era and probably would have been a very good choice a few years earlier. In the HP-On and DP-On formats, it all seemed to look like an attacker that was better than set filler but mostly outclassed. There were absolutely no frills here, but that didn’t mean that it couldn’t work. It just had to be able to stand up to really good Pokemon.
90 HP was a reasonable number for a Stage 1. The +20 Water Weakness was a real problem, though, as it opened things up for attackers such as Kingdra and Empoleon. The Retreat Cost was rather high. 3 Energy was a lot, and something like Switch was very helpful.
Magma Armor was a very simple Poke-Body that prevented Magcargo from being Asleep or Paralyzed. It wasn’t always going to help, but it was a nice touch against a few Pokemon.
Lava Plume dealt a rather normal 60 damage for 2 Fire and a Colorless Energy. You could also discard the top card of your deck and, if you did, Burn the Defending Pokemon. This, of course, could shut off Poke-Powers and maybe get that last bit of damage on things that just barely survived a Lava Plume. The maybe was due to Burn requiring a coin flip to deal damage.
There’s not too much to say about Magcargo. It wasn’t bad, but any time you’d want to use this you’d probably want to use something like Magmortar instead. This was one of those cards newer players might play before they bought a set of Magmortar for a better Fire deck since it was very easy to obtain. In a competitive sense, it was pretty much pointless thanks to the competition, but it was still going to hit reasonably hard.
The hiatus is dead. Long live the hiatus. It’s been a long one, and eventful in ways both non-RWBY-y - hurricanes and clowns and Ash Ketchum losing another goddamn Pokemon League (You were right there, Ash! Right. There.) - and RWBY-y - the Pyrrhexit, RWBY And The Cursed Child coming out (way too much time travel, tbh) and apparently there was something about chibis? Anyways, it’s over now, rejoice all, and Volume Four has come to break us down into base components of pure sadness, also rejoice all. There’s a whole lot to look forward to, but before that let’s do a quick recap of the V4 Trailer then get in some general predictions for the madness to come. Sound like a plan?
┊It had come through with her; she had no idea how. The beast rampaging through the forest with unbridled rage, everything in its path laid to waste. Chasing it down, Ceba sicced her hound on it in attempt to slow it down. Yodare, her muscular and well-built canine ran it down and chomped at the creatures ankles. The satyr type beast bellowed in pain as it swung around, smacking the dog away. “Yodare!” Ceba yelled in surprise. The hounds attack was successful; the creature was now limping.
Storming up to the beast, the Valkyrie brandished her war hammer. With a loud exclamation, “Calamity!” The weapon would glow red, a shrill shriek of magic slicing through the air. Slamming her weapon to the ground a fissure of lava would spear towards the beast, and at the end of the cast erupt with a lava plume. The beast, heavily wounded, snarled back in defiance before turning.
Ceba hand’t noticed it before but a young woman in white was in the vicinity. The Valkyrie had just now seen her, and so did the beast. It would bellow in rage at the unarmed woman while leaping for her. Ceba, quick on her feet, managed to get herself between the monster and girl. Raising her buckler and inciting “Guard!” a forward shield would take most of the attack. However, it shattered and sent Ceba flying away into some brush. The creature snarled once more before using a sort of teleport magic and fleeing.
Ceba, on the ground, was clutching her shield arm, growling in pain. Forcing herself up, groaning and brushing herself off. Wandering over to the woman, she gave a nonchalant smile. “You okay? I hope that thing didn’t hurt you.” She asked. Yodare, Ceba’s dog, trotted over to the woman. He was limping on a hind leg, whimpering, but sniffling at the new person.┊
