large task

How to Overcome Procrastination

1. Be honest with yourself and admit that you’re putting off stuff that really needs to be done.

2. Try and figure out why you’re procrastinating. Is it because you don’t like it, it creates anxiety, you don’t understand it, it feels overwhelming, you’re disorganised …?

3. Decide to break the habit of procrastination by deliberately rewarding yourself for doing something you’d rather not do.

4. Make a pact with a friend –where you deliberately and regularly encourage each other, and hold each other accountable.

5. Sit down and think – in detail – about all the likely consequences of not doing what needs to be done. Be brutally honest, and try and picture what you’re life is going to look like 6 months, a year and five years from now ( if you continue to procrastinate).

6. Decide to break large tasks down into smaller, more achievable tasks, and then tackle these smaller tasks one at a time.

7. Recognise your progress, and affirm and praise yourself for making these changes – and doing things differently, even though it’s hard.

Distraction

33 and 79 for newt and reader pls hehe thankies

Quit smiling at me, I can’t stop messing up my sentences when you look at me like that.” And ‘Sometimes I just can’t control myself when around you.”

Sorry this took a while, I hope you like it.

Newt is being distracting, so you get him back.

Newt sat at his desk by the window in your little flat, rain pattering against the glass. working on his manuscript, papers and sketches stacked all around him, threatening to tumble down with his furious writing.

You glanced up at him from your position on the floor, where you were sketching the illustrations and diagrams for his book. You continued with your shading of dougle, focussing on his intense, kind eyes. Before too long your eyes drifted back up to your partner, you set your pencil down, gently picking up the parchment, you took it over to newt for him to check over.

His sea green eyes were focussed on his task, his large calloused hand gripped the feather quill tightly, as though it might run away. The quill flicked rapidly like the gentleman holding it would forget what he was scribbling down if he wasn’t quick enough. His curly mop of hair had flopped in front of his lovely eyes, you pushed it back unthinkingly. A slightly lopsided smirk appeared on newts face, ‘your going to have to stop looking at me like that love, look I’ve written ‘requires one hundred acres of land per dragon’, six times here’ he gazed up at you, smile still on his freckled face.

Your cheeks reddened slightly ‘sorry sweetheart, but you are quite distracting’ you accused him playfully ‘hmm I could say the same thing about you, misses’ he mumbled slightly as he got back to his work, shooting you one last cheeky smile before you turned to the kitchen to make you both a cup of tea.

You put the kettle on the stove to boil, and stretched up to the top cupboard for your favourite mugs, your blouse riding up slightly in the process. The tea kettle squealed at you as you were bending down to the bottom cupboard for the tea bags.

You heard the kettle being set down, while your head was still in the cupboard. You felt a familiar large hand rest on the small of your back ‘and you say I’m the distracting one?’ newt inquired, his voice a little deeper than usual but still held a playful tone. Tea caddy in hand, you look up at him innocently ‘don’t give me that look you little minx’ he chuckled, as he picked you up and sat you on the bench.

He cupped your jaw and brought you to his lips, your fingers tangled in his messy hair. He was pressing you into his chest, grasping desperately at your blouse, he pulled away breathlessly,’ sorry love, sometimes I can’t quite control myself when I’m around you’ you cut him off by pulling him in for another kiss, by the collar of his shirt.

Have a great day and be safe

The Axe. Chapter 14 of You Are My Home.

This is chapter 14 of an extended AU piece called You Are My Home. Link to full text here: http://archiveofourown.org/works/7668112/chapters/17462125 which in turn is part of my AU series: ‘Time Moves To A Different Rhythm’ link here: http://archiveofourown.org/series/395155

Thank you for reading :) Han xx

Life at Lallybroch settled into a rhythm and within two weeks Roger was starting to feel like a member of the community, if not exactly a member of the family.

He was largely given simple tasks, ones that required physical strength but no great no-how and between them, Jamie and Ian had taken it upon themselves to try and teach him a few of the more complicated bits of running the estate.

Roger appreciated their help to a point but it was a blessed relief to be given the task that he could do alone for an hour or two. Roger braced his foot against the stump and drew the axe back over his head, he measured the distance with a squint eyed expression and brought the axe-head down with a crack. It lodged in the wood but didn’t split it.

“Shit.”

Roger pushed a hand through his hair and glaring at the log.

“Did ye check the grain?”

Roger squeezed his eyes shut for a moment and willed the owner of that particular voice to please, please go away.

“I did.”

He called back, a false cheeriness in his voice.

“Then ye misread it.”

Jamie stepped up to the stump and peered down at the axe embedded in the thick piece of pine.

“Ye’ve gone across the grain rather than along it.”

“I … meant to create a mark for splitting it into smaller pieces later.”

Roger knew that he sounded ridiculous but in that moment he just couldn’t face admitting to Jamie that there was another thing he could not do.

“Ah. And are the smaller pieces to form a peg-leg for when ye lose a foot, bracing it just so beneath a swinging blade?”

Roger felt heat creep into his face and gave the axe a violent wrench, trying to free it. The wood creaked but held firm, keeping the blade trapped.

“Let me do it.”

Jamie moved to take the handle from Roger but the younger man refused to relinquish the tool.

“I have it.”

The strain in Roger’s voice was measured but Jamie could see perspiration starting to form on his brow.

“Ye’ll break the head off it!”

“I can get a blade out o’ bit … of … wood!”

Roger grunted, turning so that his back was to Jamie and heaving until the muscles in his forearms quivered.

“Just gi’ it here…”

Jamie dodged around Roger and grabbed the handle. Green eyes met blue with a challenge that Jamie has not expected to find within their depths.

“Let go.”

“No. You let go!”

“It’s my axe!”

“Ian asked me to chop the wood and that is what I’m going to bloody do!”

“Ye’re goin’ to butcher every log and leave them useless!”

“They only have to burn, not … decorate … ye skirts….”

“They need to stack and create…a decent…long-burning…fire to…”

Jamie stopped speaking, grinding his teeth. Roger was slim but he had the strength of a younger man, ill-refined and coarse but vital all the same and Jamie felt a glimmer of concern that he might lose this wee contest.

Roger meanwhile had never expected to hold on as long as he had against the older man and his anger was cooling as his confidence grew. He would not best Fraser in an all out fight, he knew that from the way the man carried himself, but pound for pound perhaps there was not so much in it between them…

Jamie felt Roger’s grip loosen and pressed his momentary advantage, forcing the handle down and then yanking it up with a sudden and brutal force. A muscle in his back screamed and the fingers of his left hand tingled like fire but he felt the blade give and all at once it swung free, the blunt tip of the handle flying up and smashing into Roger’s face with a crack that made Jamie’s stomach flip.

“FUCK!”

Roger let go completely and his hands flew to his nose which was gushing blood. Jamie dropped the axe and pressed a hand to the small of his back which was already swelling, the skin beneath his shirt burning fiercely.

*

“What the bloody hell?”

Claire ran across the courtyard, scattering the hens who had been pecking at seeds. Jamie had one arm around Roger’s shoulders and was limping, his left leg scuffing behind him. Roger’s shirt front was covered in blood and most of his face was the colour of a ripening plum.

“What happened?”

Claire demanded as she reached them and her eyes darted over each looking for potentially life-threatening injury.

“Just a wee tussle, Sassenach. I’ve jarred my back.”

Jamie grimaced and Claire’s eyes flew wide.

“A wee …?  Jamie! For God’s sake! Look at the state of you!”

She turned her gaze to Roger and her hand covered her mouth with a gasp

“What have you done to Roger?!”

“That was an accident.”

Jamie sounded indignant but also rather guilty and Roger gave a faint snort, causing fresh blood to trickle from his right nostril. Jamie glanced across at him, eyes narrowing to slits and Claire held up her hands.

“It doesn’t matter. Both of you go inside! Roger could you please help my husband to the surgery?”

*

Roger’s nose was not broken, but it was severely bruised and Claire sent him off with a compress and a fresh towel to mop his face before turning her attention to Jamie. He had been doing a sort of awkward lean against her bookshelf whilst she patched Roger up but the minute the door closed behind the younger man he gripped the edge of Claire’s examination table tightly and dragged himself flat onto his front with a low groan of agony.

“Oh Christ! Sassenach, if ye canna ease the pain, ye may need to shoot me.”

“Let me see.”

Claire edged up his shirt and laid her hand over the visible swelling just above the sweet curve where his arse began. It was at the very bottom of his scars and the skin was smooth and unblemished as goosebumps sprang up against her palm.

“I think it needs heat first, than cold.”

“Aye, aye that will be fine.”

Jamie murmured, eager for anything, hot, cold or other that might take away some of the pain. Claire made a hot compress of herbs and wrapped it in muslin cloth before placing it lightly over Jamie’s exposed skin. She started to tug his breeks down slightly to apply a second compress over the very base of his spine when she heard him chuckle

“If ye mean to skelp my arse for fightin’ wi’ the lad, ye may wish to wait a while, ken? I doubt I’d much feel it through the burnin’ in my back.”

“That’s a noble admission.”

Claire smiled dryly and pressed the second compress to his skin

“I wouldna wish ye to labour for nothing, Sassenach!”

Claire laughed despite herself and allowed her hand to settle on the warm, round swell of his buttocks, stroking lightly.

“What on earth did you fight about anyway?”

“Who’s turn it was to hold the axe.”

It was Jamie’s turn to smile dryly.

Claire dropped to a crouch beside the table, on eye-level with her husband and raised her eyebrows in silent question.

“He kissed Brianna.”

Jamie sighed finally, moving his arms to form a pillow for his head, turning to face Claire fully.

“I saw them walking the other evening and I could tell they had been speaking of Frank again, for the lass had that look about her and then just before they reached the gate, she tiptoed up and kissed his mouth.”

“So she kissed him then?”

Claire asked patiently and Jamie huffed.

“Aye, if ye like. But he pulled her close and didna seem too intent to get away so I dinna think we need to split hairs.”

“Alright.”

Claire smiled and ran her fingers from his jaw, up through the thick tresses of auburn and gold, and a little touch of aged silver visible now too, gently massaging the back of his neck.

“I ken that it would happen, they look well together and the lad has behaved well enough but …”

Jamie licked his lip and glanced up at Claire with a look that melted her heart and stirred something more primitive in equal measure.

“I hated him a little for it all the same.”

“Jamie …”

“I ken it is ridiculous, she is a woman grown and it is natural … I ken it well Sassenach but she is still my daughter, my braw wee girl! And I feel as though …”

He took a deep breath and shifted his eyes away from Claire

“I feel as though I am maybe being punished for Frank.”

The words spilt out of him, hot and heavy in the light surgery. The smell of herbs and dried flowers suddenly clear in the silence that followed his words.

“What?”

“He had the loving and nurturing of her for nine years and then ye brought her back to me, I have had her for nine years also but now I must give her up to destiny just as Frank did.”

“Oh, Jamie … I …”

Claire shook her head, unsure of what to say that would offer comfort.

“I shouldn’t mind it either, the Fae gave me you; mo Sorcha, mo nighean donn, and they gave me half my daughters childhood to raise her and to love her rightly and through their generosity I also have my son but for all that, the thought of losing Brianna to another man broke my heart a little and I behaved like an ass.”

Jamie smiled a little then and reaching out, drew Claire’s face toward him, his hand gently tangled in her curls. He kissed her cheek and then her lips and finally rested his forehead lightly against hers with a soft sigh.

“When I last spoke to ye of Frank I was vain and foolish. I asked if I must share your heart and I ken the truth is not so. Will ye forgive me for it?”

“Of course! You were just upset!”

Claire opened her eyes and found twin blue orbs observing her with a gentleness that she still could hardly believe possible, even after all the years he had looked at her so.

“Aye, but for stupid reasons. Brianna’s heart belongs to her, it is not for a child to give their heart to a parent and I was selfish to lament a thing I had no right to.”

“I think Roger will take care of it, if she chooses to offer it to him.”

“He best had, for I would kill any man who hurt her.”

Jamie spoke the words with a calm certainty that sent a small chill up Claire’s spine and she clutched his fingers tightly.

“Try not to kill this one without just cause though,eh? Or mame him!”

She smiled and Jamie grimaced

“It really was an accident.”

“Good!”

She kissed his cheek and stood up.

“Now stay there and do not move. I’ll be back to change your compress in a bit.”

“Your wish is my command, Sassenach!”

Jamie grinned and lowered his head back onto his hands, thinking about how exactly he was going to teach Roger all of the things his potential son-in-law would need to know.

How to Deal with Procrastination

1. Be honest with yourself and admit that you’re putting off stuff that really needs to be done.

2. Try and figure out why you’re procrastinating. Is it because you don’t like it, it creates anxiety, you don’t understand it, it feels overwhelming, you’re disorganised …?

adhd jason things part i-dont-heckin-remember:

he’s not seen as ‘impulsive’ bc most people haven’t seen him in a fight. this is ur reminder that he tried to electrocute a river god, WHILE STILL IN THE WATER. when not in battle situations, jason seems very in control and calm. most of the time.  there’s a varying range from ‘ok he’s a lil impulsive’ to ‘jASON WHAT IN THE FRESH FUCK WHY DO U DO THIS’ when it comes to jason’s impulsiveness

7 Tips to Survive College

1.      Learn how to prepare your classes in advance

Even if your professor doesn’t demand a pre planned class, discipline yourself and make some preliminary readings and notes. These will help you learn the material at a healthier pace, turning your classes into a more interactive experience.

2.      Plan your readings and assignments when the semester begins

Large tasks can be broken into smaller ones. Scheduling reading sessions is a great way to make sure you can tackle a large textbook by the end of your semester. Aim for a chapter or half-chapter per session. The fact that you are focusing solely on a small portion of text rather than stressing about having to read 100+ pages per day will make you retain the information easily and learn in a more constructive way. Plan for the whole semester and, even if the reading rhythm your teacher demands is different than what you’ve planned, tell yourself that you are self-learning instead of following self-imposed classes. Learn how to make the most out of your readings here

3.      Know when to skip classes and when NOT to skip classes

Some classes are actually better skipped. You need to make a mature and rational decision if you decide to skip you classes. Ask yourself: is this class improving my learning on this subject? Isn’t this class robbing me of my time to tackle my assignments in a more organized way? Can I find the in-class information in other materials, like textbooks, notes or syllabus’?

4.      Keep a list for questions and topics on difficult subjects

Keeping these neatly summarized into topics in paper is actually a BIG stress reducer. Condense your biggest insecurities into a notebook and work your ass off to cross them out of your list. You will have an incredible feeling of achievement when you reach the end of your list and (who knows?) you will become specialized in those topics.

5.      Aim for study groups with a maximum of 3 people

Studying in group is a fantastic boost for your leaning capabilities: saying your content out loud and explaining it to someone else with your own words makes you learn your subject rather than memorizing it. However, if you are in a crowded room or are studying with more than 3 people, your attention spam will become reduced and you won’t focus as easily.

6.      Invest in good quality time with yourself

It’s incredibly hard to focus during a study session if you feel unhappy or are constantly thinking about the show that you’ve been avoiding during the entire week. Spend an hour pampering yourself. Brew your favorite beverage and watch one or two episodes of Netflix. Make your study breaks worth it. Do things that you love so you can tackle your assignments with extra motivation.

7.      Learn how to manage your time

Going to college doesn’t mean that your social life will disappear or that you won’t manage to sleep eight hours a day. In fact, I guarantee you (after three years in Law School myself) that you don’t need to stop doing anything you were doing before. You can sleep eight hours a day, go to the gym, hang out with your friends and (yes), even watch Netflix.
You just need to learn how to manage the various aspects of your life in an intelligent way. Instead of watching a Marathon of Pretty Little Liars, watch one or two episodes a day, at scheduled time.
Learn how to turn off your brain at night – regardless of the tasks you still need to tackle, think about going to bed at the same hour, each night. Aim for those 8 hours that will give you the boost of energy you need to be much more productive in the morning. Invest in good quality time with your friends and with yourself – plan something fun, using the same creativity you would use for your studies.

Make each second count and you’ll be surprised to find out that you can study less and achieve better results when you have a happy outlook on life. Learn how to maximize your study sessions here.

okay lil beans. i am going to take on a large yet fun task. i am going to have at least 1 penpal from every country. so far i have 1 from australia, 1 from mexico, 1 from the netherlands, 1 from the philippians, & 1 from the u.s. ! message me what country you live in and a little bit about yourself ! i would love to get to know all you little sprouts 🌱✉️🐝

Tips for getting started:
  1. Improve your study environment. A good work environment leads to good work.
  2. Avoid distractions. Look at extensions and apps which block online distractions, and try to get rid of anything distracting in your study space.
  3. Work in short bursts while your concentration is at maximum. Pomodoros are a good way to organise your time.
  4. Find a way to start (break initial barriers). Once you start you’ll often find that your motivation increases.
  5. Focus on the positive. Think of what you’ve already achieved rather than what you still have to do.
  6. Break up large tasks. The work will be more manageable and seem easier.
  7. Ask for help when it’s needed. Everyone needs help, and there’s no shame in it.

Misaki Ito

The Basics:

Name: Misaki Ito.
Age: 21, soon turning 22.
Zodiac sign: Aries.
One good trait: Deeply kind.
One bad trait: Secretive.

Habits:

One bad habit: Shouldering heavy and burdensome loads by herself, often, and refusing to let anyone assist her, or speak about the issue.
One good habit: Extremely happy to assist others, on the flip side! Misaki is a very self sacrificing woman who will go far out of her way to help people, whether the task is large or small.
One habit they can’t break: Fidgeting with her clothes when she’s nervous.
One they’ve broken: Cursing when agitated.
What they’re afraid of: Loneliness.

Family:

Their parents’ names: Atsuko (mother) and Kichiro (father)
Their siblings’ names: Takeshi and Hideki (both younger brothers, though she’s unaware of both of their existences.)
Favorite childhood memory: Riding horses across the seaside and up into the forests as hard and fast as she could.
Favorite childhood toy: A stuffed, tawny bear with a red ribbon around its neck that she slept with her whole life.

Embarrassing story: The front of her old but favorite kimono splitting open during a tea ceremony when she bent over, as she’d refused to put on the new one that  had been made for her, claiming that the bright yellow color washed her out. She prefers not to dwell on that particular situation; the mortified look on the house mother’s face when Misaki accidentally flashed their patrons is enough to still keep her up at night, cringing.

Favorite family member: Though Misaki recalls little of her family, and has no idea that she has two brothers who were born after she was sent away, she remembers that it was always her father who showed her the most attention. In her memories, her mother was distant with her.

What they prefer:

Coffee or tea?- Tea, preferably green, but she’ll drink a whole pot of coffee on the days she’s feeling particularly exhausted.
Showering in the day or night? - Night. It’s part of her unwinding ritual.
Taking baths or taking showers? - Baths, even if they take longer.
Tv or movies? - I don’t think Misaki would have a huge interest in either, or her tastes would be rather particular. I’m leaning towards movies and miniseries.
Writing or reading? - Reading, though she does enjoy writing music and letters to those who can understand Doman.
Platonic or romantic love? - Platonic is mostly what she’s experienced throughout life. Romantic love is an interesting concept to her and one she’s beginning to explore for herself, rather than read about in sappy novels.
Iced tea or lemonade? - Does she have to pick one?
Ice cream or smoothies? - Ice cream.
Cupcakes or cake? - Yes.
Beach or mountains? - Beach! She is a little water baby who lives to be near by the sea, and in it.

Day 6

For some, this morning started off with yoga that turned into an intense dance workout, and Abbie was thrilled to show us all the moves she learned, giving us a good laugh. After breakfast, we took off in three groups to visit many garden boxes of the sponsored families of ACE. These boxes are established for the families that ACE has decided are fit for sponsorship and are checked on at least once a month. While we were discouraged to find that some of these boxes were not tended too, we were extremely encouraged when we encountered families that treated their garden boxes so well, they are going to get the chance to expand their box and produce an even greater harvest. Each garden box and represented household was prayed for and blessed. Through these visits, it was neat to see some of the kids we had seen earlier in the week, and before leaving them, giving them some books to read and remember us by. We then all met up again at the hotel where we had two tasks: gathering large stones from the beach; and carrying a tree from the beach to the top of the property. Though these tasks seemed impossible at first, through teamwork and grit, we were able to complete both successfully and quickly. Since we finished up so early, we decided to cool off in the pool and spend time enjoying the weather together through “pool stunting” and volleyball. Even the leaders got involved as we lifted them in the air on Jarred’s passionate count of 5, 6, 7, 8… The volleyball game got competitive but the laughing outnumbered the trash talking across the net. At dinner, the boys serenaded our ACE leader Beth, referring to her as the “Mississippi Queen”. To top off the perfect day, we all got to participate in the Community Culture night, right here at the hotel. Many locals set up booths with their intricately homemade items and bartered with us into the late hours of the night. We ended up with braids, massages, baskets, sandals, bracelets, keychains, pottery, paintings and so much more. The only problem is that a few of us are coming home broke! Before going off to bed we debriefed on the day and the kodak moments it held. It is so hard for us to believe that tomorrow will be our last day on this amazing island and with these amazing people. Tomorrow’s beach day will cap off the perfect week here in Jamaica. See you back in America soon!

- Olivia, Kallie, Haeven, Alexis and Emma

Random Thought: Is “A” Really the Problem?

Earlier today, I was thinking about the number of people on the show that have done the dirty work for “A”. Not because they’re inherently bad, but because they were being threatened or blackmailed. “A” is typically thought of as this all knowing, all powerful person. However, does “A” really have the power? Is “A” really “A”? Or is “A” just a very observant person who sets off a chain reaction of people doing everything FOR them? Just been reflecting on the fairly large chunk of “A” tasks that were actually carried out by Toby, Lucas, Spencer (only the Malcolm thing as far as we know but still), Melissa, Wilden, etc. It reminds me of the end of Gossip Girl. No one is really mad because THEY all perpetuated Gossip Girl’s existence. Is “A” really an active part of the show? Or does “A” just flick the first domino?

anonymous asked:

Do you think some sigils take longer to work? I made a sigil to get a job close to home and it took a month. And I made a sigil to have a relationship about a month ago and I'm still single lol.

Yes, some sigils and spells can take longer to work, based off of various factors - how much energy it needs vs what you actually gave it; the impact / “vastness” of the intent vs actual desire or even need for it; if it just has to work on you vs any influence over other people… Tons of things.

This post explains it better: [Why Aren’t My Spells Working?]

Both of those seem like pretty large tasks just for a sigil alone, especially if you are just letting it work by itself and not backing it with any mundane actions. So yes, I can see why they might take some time.

Beta Readers

I was thinking about beta reading today, and how lucky I am to have always had really good betas. I’ve had one or two who have been brutal to the point of my blushing and wanting to quit, but I always really appreciated the risk they took with their honesty and the time they spent on a largely unsung task. Anyway, thanks to all of you who beta read! It’s pretty thankless, dry work and you’re often putting yourself out on a limb by constructively criticizing someone’s writing. But what you do makes writers better and that, in turn, makes fandom better.

Ooooooooh boy, am I so happy I finished this! This project has been my baby for well over a month now. I fell in love with Undertale so fast that I started putting the pattern together before I even beat the game, hahah. For some reason I wasn’t thinking dimensions and thought this would be a good bookmark. Turned out to be a much larger design than I anticipated, and I became a little daunted by such a large task. In part I have @therealjacksepticeye to thank. His playthrough filled me with determination to continue working on this. (In fact about half of this was completed while watching his series.)

Going to get a custom-made frame for it eventually. For now I’m going to pin it on my wall to motivate me through finals. :)
