Scyphozoan Life Cycle

1. Planula : The free-swimming medusa is either female or male and produces eggs or sperm which combine to produce a larva, called a planula. The planula is planktonic and will float around until it finds a substrate to bind to.

2. Scyphistoma : Once the planula binds to a substrate it develops into a scyphistoma. Scyphistoma is a feeding polyp with protruding tentacles on top used to catch food particles.

3. Strobila : The polyp soon turns into a reproductive polyp with stacks of strobilae. The strobilae are immature medusa that are being asexually reproduced by the polyp.

4. Ephyra : When a strobila is mature it breaks away from the reproductive polyp as a planktonic ephyra.

5. Medusa : The ephyra matures into a full grown medusa.

In step toward controlling chemistry, physicists create a new molecule, atom by atom

UCLA physicists have pioneered a method for creating a unique new molecule that could eventually have applications in medicine, food science and other fields. Their research, which also shows how chemical reactions can be studied on a microscopic scale using tools of physics, is reported in the journal Science.

For the past 200 years, scientists have developed rules to describe chemical reactions that they’ve observed, including reactions in food, vitamins, medications and living organisms. One of the most ubiquitous is the “octet rule,” which states that each atom in a molecule that is produced by a chemical reaction will have eight outer orbiting electrons. (Scientists have found exceptions to the rule, but those exceptions are rare.)

GHOST METAL reaction

“In a variation of luminol chemiluminescence, we make a coin appear to glow with ghostly trails.

Get 10mg of luminol and dissolve it in 10mL of 10% ammonia solution, the exact concentration isn’t critical. Then add 1mL of 3% hydrogen peroxide and dilute the whole solution into 100mL of distilled water.

Get a piece of copper metal, a penny will do, and drop it in with the lights out.

The penny will start to glow as the surface dissolves to form a copper amine complex. The complex catalyzes the reaction of hydrogen peroxide on luminol and causes the solution near the coin to glow. Bright trails can be seen if the copper is moved.

Eventually the concentration of copper in solution rises to the point that all of solution glows and masks the glow near the coin. The reaction will quickly extinguish as the luminol is used up.”

Infraphylum Agnatha

Agnathans are a group of jawless fishes that include Myxini (hagfish) and Petromyzontidae (lampreys). Pictured above are Petromyzontidae, also known as lampreys.  The name “lamprey” is derived from Latin meaning “stone licker.” The most well known lamprey species are a parasitic and feed by boring into the flesh of other fish to suck their blood. However there are a some species of lamprey that non-parasitic.

Wander Over Yonder is being wrapped up in June after season 2 finishes. Now it’s not that the show’s story arc has finished. It’s creator Craig Mccracken has big plans and a solid story to further evolve WOY season 3. It’s only being cancelled because the big bosses at Disney have deemed two seasons of 80 episodes to be enough. The WOY fan-base recently grew a lot due to the episode “My Fair Hatey” and the creator has stated that the shows cancellation is not due to it’s popularity or anything. So why are the Disney bosses being so selfish?

Now I have seen many fans who are upset about this decision and also the Creator and the WOY crew. This happy go lucky cartoon has actually had a huge impact on some people’s lives. I’ve seen many people state that this show has gotten them through dark times and acts as a crutch and comfort for them. Right now fans are actually being hit with bouts of depression over this show’s cancellation. Their crutch and support is being torn from them without any warning. I am also one of those fans so I understand that feeling. We all need closure and one more season is all we’re asking. WOY is finishing well before it’s time. If we just get Season 3 approved, both the fans and the crew will get the closure they deserve. The show will wrap itself up and be able to finish on it’s own terms and go out with a bang.

We know everything comes to an end but when there is just so much great potential for season 3 and so many fans who are willing to back it and the crew already having the plans in place, why not try to fight for it? The only people we need to convince are the Big Disney Bosses and Execs. We owe the WOY crew that much at least. As Wander always says “It Never Hurts To Help!”

hotelsongs replied to your post:So theres this post that goes around that rustles…

oo, do you have european magic history reading recs?

Definitely Frances Yates–she’s almost the founder of scholarly study of esotericism, and required reading to wade into the history of European magic. Her “Giordano Bruno and the Hermetic Tradition” and “Occult Philosophy in the Elizabethan Ageare very dense, but worthwhile reading. The Giordano Bruno in particular does a nice job of tracing the lineage of Renaissance magic back to its roots (invented or not)

Szonyi’s “John Dee’s Occultism” is the best work about John Dee I’ve read–and I’ve read a lot of John Dee books. Szonyi puts Dee’s work as an astrologer, politician, and mystic in the context of the religio-humanist idea of exaltation of man, which is very very cool.

It’s not as heavy, but Churton’s “The Golden Builders” is a wonderful and level-headed look at alchemy, Hermeticism, Rosicrucianism, and their ties to the founding of modern Freemasonry.

There’s lots of books out there about the Rosicrucians and the Enlightenment (and anti-Catholic sentiment) but I don’t think I‘ve read any one that stuck out to me.

Also, while it’s more fun to read if you’re already familiar with Hermes Trismegistus and the basics of alchemy, John Crowley’s “Aegypt” series reads like a Hermetic Dan Brown novel, it’s poetic and trippy and wonderful.

If you’re interested in more modern sources, I suggest starting with either Eliphas Levi, Aleister Crowley (fascinating cruel nutball of a wizard) the Order of the Golden Dawn (basically The Conspiracy, but with magic)

Kendall Jenner would be so much cooler if she promoted the cartoons she grew up with. See more Bill Board Music Awards fashion here.
