sayhellotomylittlebear  asked:

Is Kyouryu Cyan the first (and possibly only) non-Asian Sentai? And is there any Asian Sentai's that are not Japanese? Thanks

Thanks for the question!  Kyoryu Cyan is the first (and so far only) official Western member of a Sentai Team.

He was played by Robert Baldwin, who was no newcomer to tokusatsu.  He had previous palyed Gordo a.k.a. Sazer Gordo in the 2005 Toho series Chousei Kantai Sazer-X.

If you don’t count official members but instead wannabe member, then you can’t forget Shinken Brown from one episode of Samurai Sentai Shinkenger!

He was played by John Kaminari.

As for non-Japanese Asian members of Sentai teams, I do have to point to Kane Kosugi who played Jiraiya in Ninja Sentai Kakuranger.

Though his Father was Japanese martial arts star Sho Kosugi, his mother Shook Kosugi is Chinese.  He was also born in America, making him an American and considered foreign talent by the Japanese entertainment industry.

I would also like to mention the entire cast of the current Zyuden Sentai Kyoryuger Brave/Power Rangers Dino Force Brave who are all South Korean.

Yes, it is shot in South Korean but it is considered an official sequel to the 2013 Super Sentai series, co-produced by Toei, airs on Japanese TV and has merchandise available in Japan albeit only through the Premium Bandai website.
