Batman Beyond 2.0 (2013- ) #15

“I was hoping maybe I could buy you a cup of coffee, Melanie. If… you’re still up for talking to me…”

I really, truly love Melanie as a character. Gosh, her struggle to leave her crime family and subsequent testing and redemption are one of my favorite arcs from the original Batman Beyond TV series. She’s a really inspiring character and really rare in the superhero world, where villains and heroes do tend to swap sides at the drop of a hat. Mel switched, for herself, and has had nothing but obstacles and struggles along the way, but has stuck with it – and then helped her brother Jack on his road to absolution.

It is, as we learned in the show, a darker and harder reflection on Terry’s own delinquent past, and it’s part of why I love their relationship.

I do miss her dreds, though.
