Finland and Eurovision 101

  • Finland has taken part in Eurovision Song Contest 50 times.
  • Finland has won once, been on the last place 10 times and received 0 points 3 times.
  • Until 2006, Finland had the title of a “country with longest period of time without any victories”. Nowadays this country is Portugal.
  • Finland has sung 37 times in Finnish, 16 times in English and twice in Swedish.
  • Finland and Estonia are apparently the only countries to have translated subtitles for every song.
  • Finland won Eurovision in 2006 with Lordi’s Hard Rock Hallelujah. The song received 292 points and broke all the previous records
  • Pertti Kurikan Nimipäivät (”Pertti Kurikka’s Name Day”), Finland’s representant in 2015 broke the record of the shortest song in Eurovision history: one minute and 27 seconds. Pertti Kurikan Nimipäivät is probably also the only performer consisting of adults with developmental disabilities in Eurovision history.
