Kukolnik was one of the major figures of the cultural life in the 30s of the XIX century. He wrote poems, historical novels, dramas, libretti and popular romances. His works were a success with public.
He even proclaimed that there were only three genius in Russia - himself as a writer, Glinka as a composer, and Bryullov as an artist (he was close to them).
And well… nowadays he is the only one on the list who is completely unknown. Nevertheless, he had much influence on the development of the Russian literature (more than Bryullov in painting).
