you: china’s new boy band ACRUSH is all andro girls! im in love!

me: the chinese communist party invests heavily in their pop culture industry in an attempt to increase china’s global pop culture influence and in turn increasing the soft power at their disposal, which will aid them in overtaking the US. however they have been largely unsuccessful in this, with state funded pop stars getting little recognition outside of china. in contrast to this, south koreas state funded pop culture industry has been largely successful, even in the west, despite south koreas inferior economy. however ACRUSH is noticably different from china’s previous attempts at making pop culture stars as it is far less in line with chinese values and caters more to the alternative western audience and is already gaining attention from online western social media. also theyre really cute

The video titled ‘Like a Dream Come True’ has especially been making issues among netizens due to Shinhwa Lee Minwoo’s surprise appearance.

The video is a campaign video thanking fans of Korea around the world, and shows how Lee Minwoo meets with a Chinese fan, who has liked him since she was in middle school. He celebrates her first visit to Seoul, and has a good time talking with a fan who has loved Korean culture for long.

He wraps her a good samgyulsal ssam, acts cute for her, then says goodbye with a big hug, giving her a day to remember with the last words, “I hope you spend a good time in Korea and take away with you some great memories like presents.”

The singer’s agency Live Works Company commented, “Lee Minwoo was invited to join this meaningful project by the Korea Tourism Organization. Lee Minwoo was as happy as the fan who had her dream come true at a travel destination to meet a fan of his through this visit Korea campaign.”

Lee Minwoo is currently preparing to promote with ‘Shinhwa’ for its 13th studio album.

A cultural preference for male children has cost Asia dearly. Count up all the girls who were never born because of selective abortion, victims of infanticide and females who died from neglect and there are upwards of 100 million women missing on the continent today by some estimates.

Not just a human-rights catastrophe, it is also a looming demographic disaster. With Asian birthrates already plummeting, that is tens of millions of women who will never be mothers. The economic and social impact on some of the world’s largest countries is incalculable.
