koko desu ka

Today I Realised

that “where am I?” in Japanese *roughly* translates to “as for here… where is it?”
& I thought that was pretty funny.

The linguistics behind this are also really interesting:

In Japanese: ここはどこですか?
In romaji: koko wa doko desu ka?

koko = here
wa = as for… (topic marker)
doko = where
desu = is it (copula)
ka = ? (question marker)

I love Japanese grammar 😍😍😍
