Overcome with emotion, I will not forget today. Waking up to the moonlight, I anticipated a brisk, cold morning heading out to Alcatraz Island with my sisters. I found myself amongst many people of color remembering what this day actually marks in history-a massacre of indigenous people. The offerings and prayers through dance reminded me of the importance of remembering and preserving history. But it also reminds me of how individually and collectively, we must fight against the stories the history books neglect to tell. With the word “resilience” being thrown around when speaking of womyn/people of color, I remind myself that it is actually about “resistance” (not resilience) to erasure. #knowHERstory #unthanksgiving #resistance #remembering #af3irm #solidarity (at Indigenous Peoples’ Sunriise Ceremony)
