knocking down walls

You are the only person who can build emotional barriers, but you’re also the only person who can topple them. Other people can’t knock down the walls you’ve built, no matter how much they love you. You have to tear them down yourself because there’s something worth seeing on the other side.

The Types and Why the Repair Man is Here

ISFP: They lost a game of monopoly they were really invested in and punched a wall in anger.
ISFJ: The book character they loved died and they threw their book out the window… then jumped out after it having regretted it immediately.
ISTP: Their friend had only wanted to roast marshmallows, but they got so entranced by the fire they couldn’t help but set the house ablaze.
ISTJ: They were trying to redecorate their house and knocked over a lamp, which in turn fell over and made a hole in the wall.
INFP: They had a mild existential crisis about whether or not they exist, then tried to walk through a wall to see if they were a ghost.
INFJ: They were trying to solve a crime that had happened across the street and went all-out with the reenactment.
INTP: They forgot they had food on the stove, went on tumblr, and the whole house caught on fire.
INTJ: There was a minor structural error in their underground office/lair and the whole thing collapsed.
ESFP: They have a crush on the repair man and decided the only way to get them to come over was to smash the windows.
ESFJ: Their dinner party got out of hand. Maybe letting ENTP cut the cake wasn’t a good idea after all…
ESTP: They got really drunk and thought it would be a good idea to dance on the table.
ESTJ: They discovered it was cheaper to knock down the wall themself and then call a repair man than hire a contractor.
ENFP: The woodland creature they snuck into the house clawed all of the walls and cabinets.
ENFJ: They had this whole party planned for their friend and long story short there was an incident with the rental tiger.
ENTP: They decided to test out online make-it-yourself weapons and it went terribly, terribly wrong.
ENTJ: The police found out about their ambitions to take over the world and confiscated their notes and trashed their apartment.

You know, what’s interesting to me? I keep noticing a recurring theme within Emma and H00k’s relationship across the last couple of episodes - Emma wants there to be no walls between them. She wants a candid, raw, completely open relationship where they share everything and there are no secrets.

“It’s just you and me. No walls. No secrets.”

“You come to me, H00k! And you lean on me and you trust me. We have to stop hiding things from each other. […] That is what I agreed to marry, that is what I thought we were together.”

Even when H00k tries to be honest with Emma, there’s always something lurking in the woodwork to come out from his past and his natural instinct is to withhold the truth from her. He lied to her for the entirety of 6x12 (I know some will justify it by saying he was doing it to help David, which is fair enough, but the fact remains that he lied to Emma to do that). Even though we heard him show remorse for what he’d done to David’s father and even though he repeatedly said he was going to tell Emma the truth and he even tried to tell her, in the end he continued to hide it from Emma. He was actually going to burn his memories and we can assume never tell her the truth about it. And this isn’t the only time there’s been secrets between them. Throughout their relationship there’s been a high level of secrecy, even if they claim to be doing it out of love (which let’s be honest, everyone can excuse most of their lies with, but it doesn’t make it any less wrong). In season 5 their plot was pretty much entirely rooted in secrecy. Emma used her dark magic, tainted everyone’s memories and lied to H00k all to keep the secret from him that he was a Dark One. Earlier in the season H00k lied to Emma about getting rid of the shears (even though he did do the right thing and come clean in the end). There are probably more examples of these kinds of secrets, but none I can think of off the top of my head. Regardless, as hard as Emma and H00k try (and I’ll give it to them, they really do try) they just can’t seem to maintain an open and honest relationship with one another. Snow herself even criticized Emma’s relationship with H00k when she said:

“Look, your father and I might not be perfect, but we don’t keep secrets from each other.”

But guess what? Emma already has exactly what she wants - what she needs - a relationship without secrets, a person she can be completely honest with and who will do the same in return. It’s not H00k, it’s Regina

It’s canon that Emma and Regina know each other, a basis upon which a truly honest relationship is formed. To be completely open with each other you have to know each other inside and out and understand each other’s inner workings.

“Emma, listen to me. I know you. The good you is still in there.”

I know her. I believe her.

Look, I know you, Emma. It took a long time but I really know you

Emma, I know you. You will fight it.

I know you, Emma. You fight when it matters. (x) (x)

And because they know each other so well, they can’t lie to each other, even if they wanted to.

“You can lie to your parents, you can lie to yourself, but you can’t lie to me.”

“With you Regina, I can always tell when you’re lying.” (x)

There’s a sense of unspoken communication and understanding between Regina and Emma which means they instinctively seem to pick up on each other’s feelings, vulnerabilities and lies, which this post clearly demonstrates. Here we see Regina seeing straight past Emma’s mask and proving the point I already made that no matter how hard they try they can’t lie to each other.

And what’s even more important is that Emma and Regina’s relationship has developed to a point whereby they don’t even try to hide the truth from each other anymore. In season 6, in particular, I’ve noticed a clear pattern whereby Regina and Emma confide in each other all the time about their anxieties or problems rather than hiding them from each other (x). And that is just one example.

Going back to season 5 when Emma was the Dark One, there was a level of trust that Emma placed in Regina that she didn’t in anyone else which Emma proved when Regina is the one she entrusted the dagger to out of everyone in her family, including H00k. Regina also shared her most painful and private memory - Daniel’s death - with Emma in order to help her. In 5x08 Regina is the one that picked up on Emma’s struggle with the darkness, she called her out on it, encouraged her to knock down all the walls she was hiding behind. In that same episode in Storybrooke Emma confided in Regina about her anxieties over Liam (H00k’s brother) and his opinion about her. And 5x22 is a perfect example of just how much the walls between Emma and Regina have completely dropped (x). Not only did Regina confide in Emma completely, even admitting that the darkness was still alluring to her and how she struggled with it and Emma openly accepted Regina and told her, “I believe in you.”

Skipping forward to season 6, this aspect of Regina and Emma’s relationship has continued to develop. In 6x04 Regina confided in Emma about what they needed to do to kill The Evil Queen and trusted Emma above everyone else with the secret that she had to die in order to do that (x). In 6x05 Emma told Regina about her visions of her death and the truth about the possibility of Regina being the one under the hood, even though she clearly didn’t want to because she knew it would offend and upset Regina. Later on when Emma went to Regina’s vault, there was an honesty between them as Regina said she was trying to save Emma’s life and Emma admitted she was worried. In 6x08, Regina shared her plan on how she wanted to get rid of the Evil Queen with no one but Emma. And it was a perfect example of showing just how open and honest their relationship has become, particularly in regards to their roles as mother’s to Henry (x). Emma told Regina that the only thing that was giving her comfort regarding her impending death was knowing Henry would have Regina, when they were trapped in the mirror realm Regina admitted she was afraid to raise Henry alone and later on in Storybrooke Regina and Emma openly spoke about their emotions regarding their son since he was all grown up. In 6x11 Regina didn’t even attempt to hide her turmoil over Robin and also admitted how the world would be better without her. I could continue listing these kinds of scenes/moments between Emma and Regina, but I think I’ve made my point.

When Emma or Regina are in trouble, they’re in a dilemma, they’re upset, anxious or unsure, they confide in one another and turn to one another for help. They trust that they will always have each other’s backs and will help each other in any way they can. They don’t feel the need to hide the truth from one another to protect each other’s feelings, because they both know that they’re strong. Emma believes in Regina and Regina believes in Emma. Whatever the issue is, they always have faith they can work it out together. With Regina and Emma, there is also no shame. Emma knows the darkest parts of Regina and vice versa and they have openly discussed that with each other on more than one occasion, yet they openly have faith in their light conquering their darkness. Whenever Regina has expressed doubt about her ability to be good and do good, Emma immediately dives in to remind her that she can do it and vice versa. Regina is the one that encouraged Emma not to give into the darkness in 4x20 and she’s the one that told Emma she believed there was still good in her when she was the Dark One. Likewise, Emma is the one that told Regina that being evil isn’t what made her strong and was the first one that believed in her way back in season 2.

Everything Emma thinks she and H00k are, everything she wants them to be…it’s what she and Regina already are. With Emma and Regina there are no walls, no secrets, they do lean on each other and they do trust each other.

A/N: So, my first Reader Fic. Thank you so much, @fsp82, for the request. I hope you enjoy it. Also, I listened to Closer by the Chainsmokers a couple of times while writing this so that’s where the title came from along with a few little things within the story.

Tony has always had a thing for pushing people’s buttons, and your buttons were no exception. A little touch here, a sly comment there, and it all drove you nuts.

For how annoying as he was at home, that’s how protective he was in the field. He was always there, literally hovering overhead unless he had something he had to be doing.

The most frustrating part of all of this is that somehow, despite always being there, he had yet to realize your feelings for him.

Now safe in your hotel room, you kick off your combat boots and strip off the layers of your uniform as you head into the bathroom. You start the shower, letting the water heat up as you pull your hair loose from its braid. You go back out into the room, digging your hairbrush from your duffel bag. Just as you’re about to head back into the bathroom, there’s a knock at the door.

As you approach the door, you have every intention to send whoever it is away. Then you look through the peephole to see Tony standing there. You smile to yourself, allowing yourself to hope for something to come out of this.

You open the door without hesitation, not a care in the world even though you’re half naked.

“Can I help you?” you ask, a sly smile playing at your lips when you catch his eyes roaming your body.

He shakes his head, clearing his head, and looks you in the eye, “Y/N, hey, I was wondering… it’s not too late and you know since we’re in Italy… I thought maybe…”

You bite your lip watching him stumble over his words, surprised by how nervous he seems to be.

“Take a deep breath, Tony, and just spit out.”

He chuckles, scratching the back of his neck, “Do you want to get dinner? I know you’re probably tired, but this seemed like too good a chance to pass up.”

“Let me shower and get dressed. I’ll meet you in the lobby.”

He smiles, “Right. See you in a bit.”

You watch him as he heads back down the hall to the elevator. You shake your head, closing the door and rushing to the shower you’d nearly forgotten was still running. The mirrors in the bathroom are foggy, but the water’s still hot.

You take what could be considered the fastest shower of your life, though you’re careful to clean every inch of your skin. You dry your hair as best you can before pulling the loose tresses into a somewhat fancy bun.

As you approach your duffel bag, you silently thank Natasha for convincing you to pack something nice. “It could come in handy,” she’d said, “since we’re staying overnight.”

Thinking back on it now, you’re certain she knew something you didn’t. So you pull on the tight, black pencil skirt and the dark red, crop top you’d so carefully packed.

You keep your make-up light, settling for a little bit of eyeshadow and your signature winged liner. A little mascara on your lashes and a pair of black sandals on your feet, and you were ready to go. You find the purse you’d stashed and check to make sure you have everything you’ll need before heading to the lobby.

You search the room for him, your eyes finally settling on his form where he stands at the hotel bar. As you get closer to him, you realize that he’s changed clothes. His t-shirt and jeans now replaced by a sleek, dark blue suit and a black dress shirt, a thin black tie around his neck. He hasn’t seen you yet. You wouldn’t mind skipping dinner… Who needs food when you could just pull him in by his tie and drag him back upstairs…

His eyes settle on you, a growing smile spreading across his face as he scans every inch of you.

Once your close enough, and much to your surprise, he wraps an arm around you waist and pulls you close.

He kisses your cheek, whispering, “you look beautiful,” in your ear before setting his glass on the counter behind him and leading you to the front door.

He keeps you at his side as you walk through the city in a comfortable silence, taking in the darkened sights. There’s not very many people out, but you see a few other couples walking the same way the two of you are. He guides you to a restaurant somewhere in the center of town, the atmosphere of the place much more relaxed than you had expected.

Watching him, you can’t help but feel that right now he is in his element surrounded by the fancy scenery, and something about it is beyond attractive. Honestly, you think it’s downright sexy.

He still hasn’t said a word to you since before you left the hotel. He orders some fancy red wine and a few dishes from the menu for you both to share. His expression as he looks across the table at you is soft; there’s admiration in his eyes, but his gaze is nerve-wracking because you still don’t know what to think of any of this.

The waiter returns with everything all at once. Once each plate is in place, he pours the wine and sets the bottle down before disappearing with little more than a nod of his head.

You reach for your glass, taking a generous sip. Tony smiles again at your reaction to the taste of it.

“That’s amazing.” You say, meeting his eyes.

“Wait until you try the food.”

“You’ve been here, haven’t you?”

“A few times over the years.”

You narrow your eyes at him, but he just laughs it off and starts eating. You join him, eating a little bit of everything, but settling on the tortellini you were lucky to have closest to you.

Three hours and two bottles of wine later, the two of you have completely knocked down any walls between you. The conversation flows easily, the small space between you filled with your voices and laughter. The plates had been cleared long ago so the table is empty aside from your glasses and your hands where they meet in the middle.

“We should probably head back.” Tony mutters, glancing at his watch.

“Right.” You pull your hand back, “We’re supposed to head out early tomorrow.”

He pulls out his wallet, dropping enough cash on the table to cover everything, and stands up. He comes around to you, holding his hand out and guiding you to your feet when you take it. You stifle the urge to gasp when he laces his fingers with yours. So now you’re heading back to the hotel, hand in hand, and over the moon.

Back at your room, you fumble with the keycard. Why are you nervous? It wasn’t anything new for him to be so close, but the sound of his breathing literally inches from you in such a small, quiet space is almost too much. Once the door unlocks, you turn the handle and push it open a bit. You stop in your tracks, turning to face him.

He’s still just inches away.

Centimeters…

Just close enough that if you leaned forward a little more…

His kiss is sweet, a hint of chocolate and wine still lingering in it. He puts a hand on your hip, the other cupping your cheek as he deepens the kiss. By the time you pull away, you’re barely standing and your chest is heaving.

“Y/N…”

You look up at him through your lashes, afraid to look him directly in the eye.

“I’m going to tell you something, and I don’t want you to make any decisions until I’m done. Okay?”

You nod slowly, afraid to speak.

“I’m in love you with you. I don’t when I realized it or why I waited so long to tell you. I just know it’s how I feel. If you’d rather be with someone else, I’ll understand. I know I’m a little unstable and that I can be annoying. Sometimes I spend too much time in my lab, and I don’t always take such good care of myself. Maybe I drink a little too much and have some pretty bad impulse control. Still, you’ve always been there. You make me want to be better. You make me better, and I don’t even think you realize it. So whether or not this goes anywhere, tonight was important to me. You’re important to me.”

You don’t know when it happened, but at some point, you’d tightened your grip on him, a hand wrapped securely around his tie. Slowly, you look up to meet his gaze, smiling when you see how much hope lingers in his brown eyes.

You start moving back, pushing the door open as you pull him into the room. The door slams shut right as his lips collide with yours again.

You pull his shirt from where it’s tucked away in his pants and get to work on the buttons as he loosens his tie. He kicks off his shoes while you unbuckle his belt. He pulls your shirt away while you undo the button and lower the zipper. You push his pants to the floor; he unzips your skirt and pushes it down as well.

The backs of your legs hit the bed. You pause for a moment before sitting at the edge of the mattress. He’s leaning down to you, his lips still against yours, his tongue still between your parted lips and moving against your own. You pull your feet up one by one to remove your shoes. He puts his knees on either side of you one by one to remove his socks.

You move back on the bed until you reach the top, laying back against the pillows. His hand moves down your side, over your hip and to the back of your knee where his grip tightens before he parts your thighs further. His hips settle over yours, grinding slowly against you. You moan into his kiss, your thighs tightening around his hips in response to his movements.

He breaks the kiss after what feels like a lifetime. Your lips feel numb, a slight burn left behind from the friction caused by his beard. His eyes only stay on yours for a moment before moving a little further down to your still covered breasts. His fingertips tease your skin at the top of the cup before down to the clasp that sits between them. He pops it open with ease, pushing both cups aside before taking a breast in each hand.

You sigh, arching your back and pushing into his touch. You free your arms from the straps and then pull the bra away from your body, tossing it to the floor. He glances up at your face before his eyes return to his own hands and he leans down to take the hardened peak of your nipple into his mouth. You gasp at the new sensation, combing your finger through his hair.

His hips roll down again before he begins moving further down your body. His fingertips hook around the waistband of your panties. He watches your face as he pulls them down and away, tossing them to the side. His kiss moves to your inner thigh.

“Is this okay?” he asks, for once seeming unsure in his actions.

Once you provide a breathless affirmation, his head is between your thighs, his tongue laving through your folds and circling your clit.

One of your hands fists in his hair while the other grabs tight to the pillow that rests beneath your head.

“Oh, god, Tony… Fuck…”

In response to the slight bucking of your hips, he grips your thighs and presses you tighter to the mattress. Just as you look down at him, his eyes open to meet yours. His eyes flutter closed again as he moans against you. Your grip on his hair tightens as that sweet tension builds in your lower abdomen. Then as his tongue moves further down and pushes into you, you can’t hold on anymore. He keeps going, swallowing down everything you have to give him.

You hum in pleasure as he pulls away. You hand falls free from his hair and down to the bed.

“You okay?” he chuckles.

“Uh-huh.” You beckon him closer with a wave of your hand, “Come here.”

Once he’s hovering over you again, he lowers his lips to yours. You can taste yourself in his kiss. His lips leaves yours a moment later, moving down to your neck.

“I need you, Tony.” You whisper, trailing your fingertips up his spine.

“I’m all yours, sweetheart.” He smiles, raising your hand to his lips and placing a kiss to your palm.

“Come on, baby, you know what I mean.”

“You’re sure?”

“I love you, Tony. I would have said it before, but…”

“We got a little caught up.”

You giggle as you nod in agreement.

“God, I love it when you laugh. I can’t wait to hear your scream.”

His words make you gasp. He chuckles and stands up to remove the tight fabric of his briefs. Then he over you again, his generous length just inches from your waiting core. A bit to your surprise, he lays on his back beside you and grabs your hips.

“Like I said,” he whispers, positioning you over him, “I’m all yours.”

His grasps the base of his shaft in his hand, positioning his cockhead at your entrance. Your body opens for him, taking him in inch by inch. Your head falls forward once he’s buried to the hilt.

“Damn, you’re so tight, baby.” He groans, “Feels so good.”

You breath is shaky as you begin to move against him, moaning each time he slides back home. You start slow, watching him come undone beneath you. His eyes are focused on where your bodies join. His bottom lip is held tight between his teeth. His focus shifts, though, when you moan his name. He grins as his hands move over the curve of your ass. You gasp, your movements faltering when his hand strikes the soft flesh.

You recover somewhat quickly, bracing yourself against his chest as you begin to move faster. The way you’re positioned against him delivers much needed friction against your clit. There’s nothing but the sounds of your moans, groans and grunts filling the room. He hits you again, spurring your movements on and making you move just a little faster.

Your hands move from his chest to the mattress on either side of his head. He stills your hips, taking over by thrusting his hips up.

Shit!” you scream, clutching his shoulder and digging your nails in.

His arms wrap securely around your waist, and he flips you to your back, easily keeping up his unrelenting pace. Your moans become screams of pleasure as he drives you hard into the mattress.

He hooks his hand behind your leg and pushes your knee up to your shoulder. The new angle lets him go deeper, edging you closer to your release. He finally eases up, settling into a slow, hard pace. A few more thrusts right against your g-spot and you’re the one coming apart beneath him.

The clenching of your walls around him draws his own release from him, the heat of his come coating your inner walls. You heave several deep breaths as he collapses beside you after a couple of minutes.

“Be right back.” He whispers, kissing your forehead and getting up from the bed.

You hear the water turn on in the bathroom. After a moment, it shuts off again. He comes back out to you, his touch gentle between your thighs as he cleans you up. He goes back to the bathroom, tossing the towel into the sink from the doorway.

He climbs back into bed with you, pulling the blankets up and over you. You rest your head on his shoulder, your hand on his chest. You trail your fingertips over the scar on his chest left behind by his heart surgery.

He takes your hand once again, bringing your hand to his lips and placing kisses on the pads of your fingertips.

“You know,” he says, kissing your forehead, “we’re never going to live this down if the team finds out.”

“Let them find out. I’ve got nothing to hide.”

“So you’re prepared for the jokes about our age difference? I mean, I’m pretty much old enough to be your father.”

“Does that mean I should start calling you ‘daddy’?”

“Only if you don’t want to get any sleep tonight.”

“Don’t make promises you can’t keep,” you sit up and lean close him, your lips barely an inch from his, “Daddy.”

He spanks you once abruptly, “You asked for it, baby girl.”

You giggle as he moves to hover over you, his kiss rougher than before.

The next morning, you’re both back on the jet but keeping your distance from one another. It’s not necessarily on purpose. He’s helping with setting the navigation. You’re sitting across from Natasha at the back of the jet, cleaning your weapons.

“Thanks, by the way, for the advice on the outfit.” You say, looking down the barrel of your gun.

“I told you it would be useful, and I was right.”

“Yeah,” you smile, looking in Tony’s direction and catching his eye; he winks at you, a smile on his face when he turns his attention back the screen projection in front of him, “you were.”

  • ❛  Don’t you want a life with me?  ❜
  • ❛  Can’t we be seventeen? That’s all I want to do.  ❜
  • ❛  If you could let me in, I could be good with you.  ❜
  • ❛  People hurt us, or they vanish, and you’re right, it really blows.  ❜
  • ❛  We let go, take a deep breath.  ❜
  • ❛  Don’t stop looking in my eyes.  ❜
  • ❛  Is that so hard to do?  ❜
  • ❛  Let us be seventeen, if we’ve still got the right.  ❜
  • ❛  So what’s it gonna be?  ❜
  • ❛  I want to be with you.  ❜
  • ❛  Yeah, we’re damaged. Badly damaged.  ❜
  • ❛  Your love’s too good to lose.  ❜
  • ❛  Hold me tighter. Even closer.  ❜
  • ❛  I’ll stay if I am what you choose.  ❜
  • ❛  You’re the one I choose.  ❜

SHINE A LIGHT

  • ❛  Deep inside of everyone there’s a hot ball of shame.  ❜
  • ❛  If we show the ugly parts that we hide away, they turn out to be beautiful by the light of day.  ❜
  • ❛  Every day’s a battlefield when pride’s on the line.  ❜
  • ❛  I attack your weakness and pray you don’t see mine.  ❜
  • ❛  If I share my ugly parts and you show me yours, our love can knock our walls down and unlock all our doors.  ❜
  • ❛  Who wants to share what’s in their heart?  ❜
  • ❛  No volunteers? Fine, I’ll start.  ❜
  • ❛  I live alone. My husband left. My kids are grown.  ❜
  • ❛  In the 60s love was free, that did not work out well for me.  ❜
  • ❛  The revolution came and went – tried to change the world, barely made a dent.  ❜
  • ❛  I’ve struggled with despair.  ❜
  • ❛  I’ve joined a cult.  ❜
  • ❛  I chant, I prayed but God’s not there.  ❜
  • ❛  (name) I’m ending our affair!  ❜
  • ❛  I faked it every time.  ❜

LIFEBOAT

  • ❛  I float in a boat in a raging black ocean, low in the water with no where to go.  ❜
  • ❛  The people smell desperate.  ❜
  • ❛  We’ll sink any minute so someone must go.  ❜
  • ❛  Everyone’s pushing! Everyone’s fighting!  ❜
  • ❛  There’s no where to hide.  ❜
  • ❛  The captain is pointing. well who made her captain?  ❜
  • ❛  Still, the weakest must go.  ❜

SHINE A LIGHT (REPRISE)

  • ❛  Aw look, (name) is gonna cry.  ❜
  • ❛  Stupid childproof caps!  ❜
  • ❛  Aw look, (name) is gonna whine all night.  ❜
  • ❛  You don’t deserve to live.  ❜
  • ❛  Why not kill yourself?  ❜
  • ❛  Here, have a sedative.  ❜
  • ❛  Whine, whine, whine like there’s no Santa Clause.  ❜
  • ❛  You’re pathetic because you whine!  ❜
  • ❛  You whine all night!  ❜
  • ❛  Your ass is off the team!  ❜
  • ❛  Go on and bitch and moan.  ❜
  • ❛  You don’t deserve the dream!  ❜
  • ❛  You’re gonna die alone.  ❜

KINDERGARTEN BOYFRIEND

  • ❛  He was sweet, he said that I was smart.  ❜
  • ❛  He was good at sports and people liked him.  ❜
  • ❛  At nap time, once, we shared a mat.  ❜
  • ❛  I didn’t sleep, I sat and watched him breathing.  ❜
  • ❛  I watched him dream for almost half an hour. Then he woke up.  ❜
  • ❛  He pulled a scab off one time playing kickball, kissed me quick and pressed it in my hand.  ❜
  • ❛  I took that scab and put it in a locket, all year long I wore it near my heart.  ❜
  • ❛  He didn’t care if I was thin or pretty.  ❜
  • ❛  He was mine until we hit first grade.  ❜
  • ❛  Last night I dreamed a horse with wings flew down into my home room.  ❜
  • ❛  Now we’re all grown up and we know better.  ❜
  • ❛  Now we recognize the way things are.  ❜
  • ❛  Certain boys are just for kindergarten.  ❜
  • ❛  Certain girls are meant to be alone.  ❜
  • ❛  I believe that any dream worth having, is a dream that should not have to end.  ❜
  • ❛  I’ll build a dream that I can live in, and this time I’m never waking up.  ❜

YO GIRL

  • ❛  Oh my god, is she dead?  ❜
  • ❛  Just another geek trying to imitate the popular people and failing miserably.  ❜
  • ❛  keep it together.  ❜
  • ❛  I knew you would come far.  ❜
  • ❛  Smell how gangsta you are.  ❜
  • ❛  I’m so sorry.  ❜
  • ❛  Feel a bit punchy?  ❜
  • ❛  She’s not looking so well.  ❜
  • ❛  You’ve earned that red scrunchie.  ❜
  • ❛  Come join (name) in hell.  ❜
  • ❛  Where have you been?  ❜
  • ❛  We’ve been worried sick!  ❜
  • ❛  Your friend, (name), stopped by.  ❜
  • ❛  He told us everything.  ❜
  • ❛  He’s got your hand writing down cold.  ❜
  • ❛  Please, honey, talk to us.  ❜
  • ❛  No, you wouldn’t understand.  ❜
  • ❛  Guess who’s right down the block?  ❜
  • ❛  I’ve experienced everything you’re going through.  ❜
  • ❛  Guess who’s climbing the stairs?  ❜
  • ❛  Your problems seem like life and death, I promise they’re not.  ❜
  • ❛  Guess who’s picking your lock.  ❜
  • ❛  You don’t know what my world looks like!  ❜
  • ❛  Times up! Go say your prayers.  ❜
  • ❛  (name)’s running on fumes now.  ❜
  • ❛  (name)’s totally fried.  ❜
  • ❛  (name)’s gotta be tripping on shrooms now.  ❜
  • ❛  (name)’s done for, there’s no doubt now.  ❜
  • ❛  Notify next of kin.  ❜
  • ❛  Too late, he got in.  ❜
  • ❛  Sorry for coming in through the window, dreadful etiquette I know.  ❜
  • ❛  Get out of my house!  ❜

MEANT TO BE YOURS

  • ❛  All is forgiven baby!  ❜
  • ❛  Come on, get dressed! You’re my date to the pep rally tonight!  ❜
  • ❛  You chucked me out like I was trash.  ❜
  • ❛  For that, you should be dead.  ❜
  • ❛  Then it hit me like a flash: what if high school went away instead?  ❜
  • ❛  Those assholes are the key.  ❜
  • ❛  They’re keeping you away from me.  ❜
  • ❛  They made you bling, messed up your mind.  ❜
  • ❛  I can set you free!  ❜
  • ❛  You left me and I fell apart.  ❜
  • ❛  I punched the wall and cried.  ❜
  • ❛  I found you changed my heart and set loose all that truthful shit inside.  ❜
  • ❛  So, I built a bomb!  ❜
  • ❛  Tonight our school is Vietnam.  ❜
  • ❛  Let’s guarantee they never see their senior prom!  ❜
  • ❛  I was meant to be yours.  ❜
  • ❛  We were meant to be one.  ❜
  • ❛  Don’t give up on me now.  ❜
  • ❛  Finish what we’ve begun.  ❜
  • ❛  In the rubble of their tomb, we’ll plant this not explaining why they died.  ❜
  • ❛  Our burned bodies may finally get through to you.  ❜
  • ❛  Your society churns out slaves and blanks, no thanks.  ❜
  • ❛  We’ll watch the smoke pour out the doors.  ❜
  • ❛  Bring marshmallows, we’ll make s’mores.  ❜
  • ❛  We can smile and cuddle while the fire roars.  ❜
  • ❛  I can’t make it alone.  ❜
  • ❛  You were meant to be mine.  ❜
  • ❛  I am all that you need.  ❜
  • ❛  You carved open my heart, can’t just leave me to bleed.  ❜
  • ❛  Open the door please.  ❜
  • ❛  Can we not fight anymore?  ❜
  • ❛  (Name), sure, you’re scared, I’ve been there.  ❜
  • ❛  (Name), don’t make me come in there.  ❜
  • ❛  I’m gonna count to three. 1, 2, fuck it–  ❜
  • ❛  Oh my god.  ❜
  • ❛  Please don’t leave me alone.  ❜
  • ❛  You were all I could trust.  ❜
  • ❛  I can’t do this alone, still, I will if I must.  ❜

DEAD GIRL WALKING (REPRISE)

  • ❛  I wanted someone strong who could protect me.  ❜
  • ❛  I let his anger fester and infect me.  ❜
  • ❛  His solution is a lie.  ❜
  • ❛  No one here deserves to die, except for me and the monster I created.  ❜
  • ❛  Heads up (name).  ❜
  • ❛  I’m a dead girl walking.  ❜
  • ❛  Can’t hide from me.  ❜
  • ❛  There’s your final bell.  ❜
  • ❛  It’s one more dance and then farewell.  ❜
  • ❛  (name) told me you just committed suicide?  ❜
  • ❛  Yeah, well, he’s wrong about a lot of things.  ❜
  • ❛  I through together a lovely tribute, especially considering the short notice.  ❜
  • ❛  What’s under the gym?  ❜
  • ❛  That’s it.  ❜
  • ❛  What’s that sound?  ❜
  • ❛  Give a great big yell!  ❜
  • ❛  Step away from the bomb.  ❜
  • ❛  This little thing? I’d hardly call it a bomb.  ❜
  • ❛  This is just to trigger the packs of thermals upstairs –those are bombs.  ❜
  • ❛  I wish your mom had been a little stronger.  ❜
  • ❛  I wish she’d stayed around a little longer.  ❜
  • ❛  I wish your dad were good.  ❜
  • ❛  I wish grownups understood.  ❜
  • ❛  I wish we’d met before they convinced you life is war.  ❜
  • ❛  I wish you’d come with me.  ❜
  • ❛  I wish I had more TNT!  ❜

I AM DAMAGED

  • ❛  I am damaged. Far too damaged.  ❜
  • ❛  You’re not beyond repair.  ❜
  • ❛  Stick around here, make things better.  ❜
  • ❛  You beat me fair and square.  ❜
  • ❛  Please stand back now.  ❜
  • ❛  Don’t know what this thing will do.  ❜
  • ❛  Hope you miss me.  ❜
  • ❛  Wish you’d kiss me.  ❜
  • ❛  I’ll trade my life for yours.  ❜
  • ❛  Wait, hold on!  ❜
  • ❛  Once I disappear, clean up the mess down here.  ❜
  • ❛  Not this way!  ❜
  • ❛  Say hi to God.  ❜

SEVENTEEN (REPRISE)

  • ❛  Listen up kids, war is over.  ❜
  • ❛  Brand new sheriff’s come to town.  ❜
  • ❛  We are done with acting evil.  ❜
  • ❛  We will lay our weapons down.  ❜
  • ❛  We’re all damaged, we’re all frightened, we’re all freaks but that’s alright.  ❜
  • ❛  We’ll endure it. We’ll survive it.  ❜
  • ❛  (name) are you free tonight?  ❜
  • ❛  High school may not ever end.  ❜
  • ❛  Still, I miss you.  ❜
  • ❛  I’d be honored, if you’d let me be your friend.  ❜
  • ❛  We can be seventeen.  ❜
  • ❛  If nobody loves me now, someday somebody will.  ❜
  • ❛  There’s still time to make things.  ❜
  • ❛  One day we’ll change the world, but let’s kick back tonight.  ❜
  • ❛  Let’s go be seventeen, take off our clothes and dance.  ❜
  • ❛  This could be our final chance.  ❜
  • ❛  We’ll make it beautiful.  ❜
I Wouldn’t Choose You - Kit/Ty Fanfiction

Hello! This is my very first fan fiction, so if its terrible please ignore it and carry on with your day :) This was written for the ‘Lord of Shadows Challenge’ hosted by @incorrectdarkartifices and @carstairsdaily. It is based on the characters Kit and Ty from the Dark Artifices series written by @cassandraclare. Theme -April Week 9: Vampires. Thank you both for the opportunity to write it! Here it is!

The Clave had become crueler, stricter over the years, regarding the Downworld. The Accords were still silently intact, but it had been long since Downworlders and Shadowhunters had taken up arms with one another.

An outbreak of rogue vampires had swept the Shadow World. Some of Valentines experiments, from many years ago, had survived and escaped their prison, the location of which was still a mystery. They were now infecting humans and already turned vampires, turning them into a species much like that of the Forsaken, except with fangs and annoyingly inconvenient immortality.

The Claves instructions? Kill immediately. An order, funnily enough, that didn’t differentiate infected vampires from non infected ones.

The streets were dark and vacant. It was after all, three in the morning. Nothing could be seen, save for the glowing white light that floated along in the murky blackness, illuminating the figure who held it, as well as his companion. They were clad in dark gear, and the colours of their hair starkly contrasted each other; one with a head of gold blonde and one with ink black. Anyone of the New York Shadow World may have recognised them as the great and formidable Jace Herondale and Alec Lightwood, famous Shadowhunter warriors, brothers and parabatai, who were known and feared among all beings, heavenly and hellish.

Be that as it may, this was not New York; it was in fact Los Angeles, and the boys with hair that could be mistaken for that of Jace and Alec’s, went by the names of Kit Herondale and Tiberius Blackthorn.

Ty held his witchlight ahead of him, illuminating the dark asphalt in his path. Kit walked close beside him, hand on the hilt of his seraph blade, ready to unsheathe it at any moment. He glanced around him uneasily; this was only his second or third time out in the field, after 3 or so years of training, and he hadn’t yet mastered the art of total and utter fearlessness that accompanied the job that was hunting demons. Ty had offered to mark him with a fearless rune, however, Kit was very strongly opposed to that idea, especially since Ty didn’t need one himself.

Ty noticed Kit’s wariness, and hid his grin.

“You know, it would be a lot more strategic if we were to use the night vision rune, so that we could see in the dark. This witchlight is either scaring everything off, or we have 100 vampiric eyes on us right now. We are kind of a walking target.”

Kit scoffed. “Runes are much too Shadowhuntery, and I still totally object to all of this. I mean, sure there’s that one useful healing rune -”

“The iratze,” Ty drawled, enjoying winding Kit up. Kit knew exactly what it was called, and Ty knew it. He had marked them into Kit’s skin with his own stele many times.

Kit narrowed his eyes. “Whatever, THAT one is useful. The rest are just, like cheating. Magical cheating.”

“Ah,” Ty nodded mock understandingly. “So a night vision rune is too unnatural, but an angelic stone, powered by heavenly magic that only glows at a Shadowhunter’s will, isn’t?”

Kit shoved Ty, and Ty laughed. Kit liked the sound of his laugh, something he didn’t really hear often; smooth, velvety and light, kind of like music.

“So,” Ty started wryly once he’d stopped laughing. “How was your Herondale bonding session with Jace yesterday?”

If Kit wasn’t completely oblivious to almost everything around him, he might have noticed the hint of jealousy in Ty’s voice, at the fact that Kit liked hanging out with someone other than him.

“They aren’t bonding sessions, they’re training sessions!” exclaimed Kit.

It was true, Jace having taken great interest in Kit the moment he learnt of his true last name, had requested private training sessions with him. Kit, who at first, had thought upon the idea with great disgust, was swayed only when Ty had convinced him. Kit also had to admit that he was curious about Jace, and given that his entire family history had been a lie, had really no choice. Besides, although he’d never say so, Kit had come to like Jace a lot.

“Sure,” Ty grinned. “What did you guys do?”

Kit huffed, and ran a hand through his golden hair. “We practiced a whole bunch of sword techniques and then he showed me some new jumping skills and mid-air manoeuvres. Then we went out to get hot chocolate and talked about stuff.”

“Stuff?”

“Yeah,” Kit replied, shoving his hands in his pockets. “Family stuff, Shadowhunter stuff. I think he’s trying to pass some kind of esteemed Herondale legacy onto me, incase he never has any children. Which honestly sucks, considering he’s THE Jace Herondale and no one could really live up to that, especially someone like me.”

Kit kicked at a pebble on the ground and watched it bounce away from him.

“Of course you could,” Ty said firmly, taking Kit by surprise. “Also, I’m sure he’s not trying to do that on purpose. He probably just really likes hanging out and talking to you, you’re about the closest he will ever get to having a younger brother by blood.”

Kit remained quiet. He had never really thought about it like that. Ty had a funny way of doing that to him, making him see above and beyond, with new perspectives.

“I guess you could be right,” Kit said thoughtfully. He grinned. “I mean, who wouldn’t want to hang out with me? I’m perfect.”

“Oh please,” Ty scoffed, although, when he glanced at Kit’s clear blue eyes, golden hair and facial features of the graceful, Herondale-esque nature, he couldn’t help but agree. “I think you’ve been hanging out with Jace a little too much. Or is that arrogance an unfortunate trait all Herondales inherit? Along with that god awful blonde hair?”

“You love my hair,” Kit said defiantly.

“No,” Ty retorted. ‘Yes,’ he thought.

Kit smiled, a blinding, beautiful smile. Ty had spent quite a while internally training himself to not be entirely distracted by it, which had indeed been a difficult feat.

“Whatever helps you sleep at night, Blackthorn. Anyway, we talked about Parabatai. He explained that whole strange situation to me, anything I hadn’t already read from the Codex. He talked about himself and Alec, and aside from the weird intimacy of it all, I think it’s actually kind of cool.”

Ty looked at him in shock, hand over his heart. “You finally found an element of Shadowhunting cool and I wasn’t there to witness it? Unbelievable.”

Kit rolled his eyes. “The whole ‘fighting together makes you stronger’ thing is pretty neat.” He regarded Ty curiously. “Have you ever considered having a parabatai?”

Ty shrugged. “If I did, it would have always been Livvy. She has asked me a few times, but I said no. If you have a parabatai then you’re forbidden to study at the Scho -”

“The Scholomance, yeah I know,” Kit interrupted bitterly. Any time Ty had talked animatedly of his desire to join the Scholomance, to leave the Institute, Kit could only think of Ty leaving him, and could not even pretend to be happy for him.

“Anyway,” Ty continued warily. “Would you ever have a Parabatai?”

“Well, yeah I think so. Like I said, it sounds cool. Although, I don’t know who it would be,” Kit mused. “It’s not like I’m that fond of very many Shadowhunters.”

Kit glanced at Ty, the boy who had been his one and only friend, who had healed him and taught him all he knew and convinced him to embrace the part of himself he had been so adamant on pushing away. “To be completely honest, I’d probably choose you.”

“I wouldn’t choose you,” Ty said frankly, still looking straight ahead.

Kit sighed. He was never angry at Ty’s bluntness, even when they first met, he knew it was a part of him that made him different. It only sometimes made him a little bit frustrating.

“I know Ty, you told me just then your Parabatai would be Livvy. I was just -”

“That’s not why I wouldn’t choose you.”

Kit frowned. “Well then why-?” He noticed Ty had stopped walking, and turned to see him standing there, staring at him with an incredibly unreadable expression.

Suddenly, Kit remembered one specific passage from the Shadowhunter’s Codex. One he had read over many times, although he didn’t know why.

A passage that condemned the explicitly forbidden act of falling in love with your Parabatai.

Ty stepped towards him slowly. He was half a head taller than Kit, something he liked to tease him about to no end.

Kit noticed that Ty’s pale skin was slightly flushed, even though they had only been walking. He was suddenly aware of the closeness between them, and could count the light freckles that dusted Ty’s nose. He could see the way that the moonlight illuminated his angular cheekbones, sharpened his straight and defined jawline and glinted off of his black hair.

Kit was overcome with the urge to run his hands through that hair, and clenched his fists so hard that he could feel his nails pierce into his skin.

And god, his eyes. Their usual beautiful grey was now a glowing silver, framed by long, dark lashes. Kit remembered the first time he had seen those eyes, as silver as the knife that Ty had held to his throat when they first met.

He remembered 14 year old Tiberius Blackthorn, who had lonesomely ventured into the dangerous world, so desperate to protect the people he loved that he would risk his own life without hesitation.

“How beautiful,” he had thought.

Ty gripped the side of Kit’s waist with one hand and brought the other to his face. He brushed a purely golden lock of his hair out of his eyes.

Those cerulean, sea blue eyes that had barged in on Ty’s life, knocked down the walls he had built around himself and taken up permanent residency within him, no matter how hard he had tried to shake them.

Time seemed to slow down, as he cupped one side of Kits face, fingers lightly gripping the soft curls behind his ear and thumb running across his cheekbone, downward and over his lips, which were partially open, leaving a trail of fire in its wake. He felt the sharp curve of Kits jawline under his hand, and the muscles that moved as Kit swallowed.

They were so close that that Kit could feel Ty’s light breath on his mouth; the sweet smell of mint and a hint of chocolate. Kit vaguely recalled Ty chewing on a plain milk chocolate bar before they left for their mission. He had bought it for him from a convenience store, because he knew they were Ty’s favourite. Kit wondered if the taste of chocolate was still left on his lips, and found himself wanting dearly to find out.

Kit’s glanced upward from Ty’s lips, only to discover that Ty was looking at his own. Only micrometers apart, all either of them would have to do was move forward -

Kit’s eyes widened. He grabbed Ty and shoved him behind himself, holding him there. In one smooth, singular motion, he unsheathed his blade, cried out its angelic name and plunged it into the heart of the vampire that had sped towards them, towards where Ty had been seconds before.

He briefly glimpsed its deranged eyes, dark veined face and fangs coated in black blood before it exploded into nothing.

The world was silent again, save for his and Ty’s heavy breathing. He was faintly aware that he was still standing protectively in front of Ty, gripping his arm and holding it behind his back.

“Jace teach you that, did he?” Ty said, still trying to catch his breath.

Wordlessly, Kit nodded. He turned to face Ty, not letting go of him, searching him for any injury he may have sustained, when suddenly they heard a cry. They turned just as Livvy bounded into them, knocking them both over.

“Are you alright? I’m so sorry, I should have been here! Are either of you hurt? How did you kill it? Oh my goodness, please tell me you’re alright! I tried calling you to tell you that there was an Infected in your area but neither of you would pick up! Oh, I was so worried-”

“Chill Livvy, we’re fine,” Kit said muffled, his mouth full of her hair. They all sat up and Ty fended Livvy’s fussing off as best he could.

“Livvy quit it. Kit killed the vampire, we are safe, I promise. See?” Ty held up his hands, “Not even a scratch.”

Livvy  wrapped her arms around him tightly. Ty responded, wrapping his own protectively around her small frame, stroking her hair, whispering reassurance and words of comfort into her ear, as they had been doing since they were tiny children.

He looked at Kit, who couldn’t look at him. “Kit,” Ty started, but Kit was already on his feet.

“You were right about the night vision rune. I’ll use it from now on,” Kit said, trying to keep his voice steady.

The shakiness of it had nothing to do with the vampire that had just attacked them.

“You’re hurt,” Ty stated with slight anguish. He let go of Livvy and lightly held Kits forearm up so that he could investigate it. There was a deep gash that was now welling with blood; the vampire had managed to claw at him before it disappeared.

He hadn’t even noticed, he was too preoccupied with making sure Ty was okay.

“Kit,” Ty said gently, “Let me -”

“No it’s fine, I’ll do it,” Kit said abruptly.

He pulled out his stele and drew an iratze on his arm. Within seconds, the pain that had momentarily been there had vanished, and the cut begin to heal itself. With a start, Kit noticed that the skin on his palms that he had broken with his fingernails had begun to heal as well.

Ty noticed this too.

He tried to speak, but Kit cut him off once again.

“We should get going. I’ll see you both back at the Institute.” With that, he walked away briskly.

“Kit!” Ty called, but he didn’t turn around. He was too busy forcing himself not to miss the feeling of Ty’s hands on his skin, of his fingers in his hair, of his soft looking lips so goddamn close.

He tried not to think about the fact that Ty had said his name three times within the last minute, forced himself to stop feeling that certain way all three of those times, no, every time, every single time Tiberius Blackthorn said his name.

He tried not to think of the reason that they would never, ever want to be parabatai.

That was just it though. However hard he tried, however much he forced himself, he just couldn’t stop.

Also Carol’s face here…

When she opens the door and sees Daryl, it’s the last person she ever expects to find standing on her porch. And it’s also the worst person.

Because she has tried so hard to isolate herself. She’s built up these huge walls, made them sturdy and big and strong, and locked herself in. She says she doesn’t want anyone coming around because she plans on staying behind the security of these walls, believing that they can keep out the love she is trying to run from.

So when she opens that door and sees Daryl standing there, she knows it’s the worst possible person who can show up because he is the only person who can knock those walls down all at once.

Those walls Carol has worked so hard to build up, are something that Daryl can shatter with one look, one hug, one gesture. He’s the one person who will always hold that power and Carol knows she is helpless to it.

She knew here:

[.gif by @valramorghulis]

Her expression turned to fear when he hugged her. Because he broke through her walls that easily. A simple hug and she was vulnerable and open and her mask dissipated.

She couldn’t let that happen. So she put distance between them because Daryl was that person, for her. That person who could knock her walls down if she so much as looked at him.

Carol admitted to Ezekiel that she had “walked away from love”. And she did; she walked away from Daryl and his love. And she isolated herself beyond the walls of that house, and the walls she had built around herself. She walked away from love but then she opened her door and that very love she ran away from is standing right there.

The person who can always break through her walls and see through her masks stands before her, and Carol knows, in that moment, that she’s screwed; she can’t fight it anymore.

He’s found her, yet again. Against all odds. And just look at Carol’s face; the way she purses her lips, looks frustrated for a fraction of a second before she dissolves into tears, as though she’s thinking, dammit - he will always find me. And her walls just crumble and she gives up on holding it back.

She can’t walk away from love. She can’t walk away from him. Because he finds her. Always. No matter what. She can’t hide from him and in that moment, I think she stopped wanting to.

Hello || Joe (pt 2)

Summary - The one after the drunken honesty.

(part 1)

-

You were awake long before Joe was. Worried that Joe may wake up with no recollection of the night before, you had him sleep in your bed while you stayed on the couch. Sure, it had you tossing and turning all night, but you thought that was better than waking up to Joe’s confused and hungover face.

As soon as the sun started to peek through your windows, you were out of bed. You made yourself a cup of coffee and walked out to your porch, dragging a blanket out with you. You sat on your patio couch, tucking your feet underneath you and pulling the blanket over your lap. You were dressed in shorts and a jumper, and with a blanket covering your legs, you were quite comfortable in the brisk March air.

While your body was comfortable, your mind was going mad. Would Joe remember anything when he woke up? Was he drunkenly rambling the night before, or did he really feel the way he expressed? Did you want him to remember? What would happen if he did remember? You weren’t sure you wanted any of those questions to be answered.

Of course though, they had to be. Joe had woken up and was now sitting beside you, a coffee cup in his own hands. “I helped myself,” he mumbled. “Hope you don’t mind.”

“It’s okay,” you said. “Did you find the Advil?”

“Same drawer as always,” he said back. You nodded, staring back off into the skyline. The sun was still rising. “I’m sorry I called you,” he said, breaking the silence between you. “That was wrong.”

“You were drunk,” you said. “I understand.” You paused, taking a sip of your coffee. Joe did so as well. “Do you remember what happened?” you asked quietly.

“Some of it,” he mumbled, his lips still close to his mug. He took another sip. “Enough to know that we should talk about some stuff.”

You stared down at your coffee cup, your heart beating too fast for your liking. “I don’t know what there is to talk about,” you lied blatantly.

“Can you just,” Joe sighed. “For a few minutes, can you just knock your walls down, just long enough for us to talk?” You sighed, still avoiding eye contact completely with Joe. “You said you still love me,” he said gently. You finally willed yourself to look at him to see that his blue eyes were already staring at you.

You snorted, “That much you remember.”

“(Y/N),” Joe sighed. “Please.”

“I don’t know what you want me to say,” you mumbled.

“Tell me that I heard you right,” he was almost begging now. “Tell me that you still love me.” You sighed, looking down at your mug again.

“Yeah, I still love you,” you said quietly, thinking back to your phone conversation with him the night before. “You’re kind of hard to let go of.”

You still wouldn’t look up at Joe. You stared at the small amount of coffee still swirling at the bottom of your mug as if it was more interesting than the sun slowly rising in the sky. Suddenly, you felt Joe’s hand on top of yours, rubbing his thumb on your skin. It was as if you had gone back in time, remembering all of the moments you had sat with him on his balcony, talking about random things, counting the stars in the sky, fighting and then making up. And then the proposal where you handed him back the ring you couldn’t take and walked out of his life.

In that instant, you started crying. Tears were rolling down your cheeks and you were crying almost silently. You had walked away from the best thing that ever happened to you for what? Safety? Security? Assurance that he could never leave you if you left him first? “You know,” you finally said, sniffing whilst trying to control your tears, “my grandpa left my grandpa when I was 5. And my dad left my mom when I was 12. I just, the man has walked out of every marriage I’ve ever seen. I could be in a relationship with you because I convinced myself that we were safe as long as we never got married. Then, well then you proposed and all I could see was my 12 year old self sitting on the couch with my mom while she tried to explain to me what she meant by Dad’s not coming back. I felt like I was drowning in the outcomes of every marriage that I’ve ever seen fail. I didn’t want that to be us.”

Joe continued to just rub your arm with his thumb. He didn’t make any moves closer to you, not wanting to break down another wall when you didn’t yet want him to. “You could’ve talked to me,” he said quietly. “I thought you stopped loving me. It fucked me up so bad, (Y/N).”

“I know,” you said, covering your face with your hands. Your breath was shaky and you felt tears on your face again. The guilt you had been carrying was so heavy, the weight of it was finally crashing down on you. “I’m so sorry.”

“Hey, it’s alright,” Joe said quietly, pulling your hands away from your face. His eyes locked with yours and you instantly felt a sense of relief. His eyes always had a way of doing that to you. “You still breathing, yeah?” he said, his thumb resuming the gentle rub on your arm. “You’re alright. You’re alright.” You nodded, sniffing again to compose yourself.

“I’m just so sorry,” you repeated. “I can see it in your eyes that you’re tired. You look sickly, Joe.” And it was true. The bags under his eyes were horrendous and his skin looked pale. He looked even thinner than usual, like he hadn’t been eating properly in months. “Joe when was the last time you ate something?”

“I eat,” he said defensively.

“Like a meal, Joe,” you said.

“I don’t know,” he mumbled, brushing some hair out of his face. “This isn’t about me right now.”

“Joseph you’re not well!” you said sternly. “I don’t like this.” Your thumbs brushed across his face, under his eyes and to his temples. He immediately closed his eyes at your touch. “This is my fault, isn’t it?”

“I’m alright,” he said, his voice small.

“You’re lying,” you said. “I can hear it in your voice.”

Joe sighed, “I told you last night that I just, I don’t know how to be over you. I was bad and then I was okay and now I feel empty again. I’m trying so hard, (Y/N), you gotta know that.” He paused, forcing a smile on his face again, “You’re doing good though, yeah?”

“No, I’m not,” you said firmly, your words slightly shocking you. This was the first time you actually admitted this to yourself, let alone to Joe. “No, I’m not doing good. I let go of the one person who could put up with me because I was afraid. And now, well now I just feel sad all the time. I feel sad and alone and I want to call someone to tell them how I feel but the only person I can think to call is you. I love you. I love you so fucking much that it’s killing me right now to see you like this. If I could take all your pain and put it on my shoulders, I would. Because I’m the one who deserves it. I’m the one who hurt you so I should be suffering. I just want everything to go back to how it was because I have never been happier than during those three years when I was with you. So no Joe, I’m not good. I feel empty and I’m trying to fill myself back up but there’s a hole in my heart and it’s shaped a whole lot like you and I can’t fill that back up on my own.”

Joe pressed his lips against yours so quickly, you almost jumped. The feeling was so familiar, though, that you instantly relaxed and kissed him back. His hands were on your face and yours were around his neck, loving the way his hair felt against your finger tips again. You weren’t sure who pulled away from the kiss, but when you did, your foreheads stayed pressed up against each others. “I’m so in love with you,” Joe whispered. “And we don’t have to get married. Not right now. Not ever if you don’t want to.”

“I want to get married, Joe,” you said. “Maybe not right now, but I will marry you. I will. I really will.” Joe smiled and for the first time in a while, it actually made his eyes light up like they used to. With his lips centimeters away from yours, you could feel him smile again.

“Well, I’m glad I kept that ring then.”

And as the sun came up over the horizon, a new day began and the Earth got a fresh start. So did your relationship with Joe.

Kid wakes up.

Kid spies with his little eye a bird.

Kid immediately comprehends the freedom of having wings.

Kid is stuck with the Marleyans, so instead of being passionately inspired to rise up and reclaim humanity’s freedom, is being raised into a warrior that will march off to the lands championed by soldiers who fly through the air bearing wings, and murder them all for the good of his people.

Kid’s fucked.

Why I’m Angry About Akechi (spoilers)

I beat Persona 5 the other day and I’ve been doing nothing but stewing over the details and little things that bothered me. Yes, it was a fantastic game. But I’m going to delve into one specific issue that bothered me; Goro Akechi. Spoilers below, proceed at your own risk.

Imagine that someone is trying to knock down a brick wall by punching it, because they want something that’s on the other side of it. The problem is that they’re unable to knock down the brick wall, and they tell you that.

If you tell them “yes you can, just keep hitting it”, you won’t be the slightest bit helpful. They’ll just keep punching the wall and the wall will never budge. Eventually, they’ll think there’s something wrong with them because they’re failing constantly while doing exactly what you told them to do. And even if they’re actually successful in knocking down a wall once in a long while, there will be more walls, and it’s unreasonable to rely on sheer dumb luck for something that’s required on a regular basis.

Meanwhile, if you ask them for more details about the situation and actually listen to them, the following may be helpful.

  • Here’s how to identify weak spots in the walls. Hit the walls there instead.
  • Use this sledgehammer. It’s a lot more effective than punching.
  • Maybe instead of knocking down the wall, you can walk around it, dig a hole under it, or climb over it.
  • Here’s something on this side of the wall that you can use, so you don’t have to get on the other side of the wall.

kagehina, 1k, “welcome home.”

from the guild au.

The Karasuno Guildhall had been a farmhouse, once, a large but simple structure set amongst the rolling hills. Local lore has it that the great Ukai line of mages were farmers, once, and when the first Guild Master converted his home into the guild’s headquarters, the generations began piling on their own additions. Now, the hall doesn’t look so much like a farmhouse as several farmhouses smashed together. There’s no rhyme or reason to the shape of it, extra wings attached and walls knocked down and towers added without permission over the years. A single metal spire rises out of the center of the building, a large black banner unfurling from it and blowing in the wind. Sugawara-san, the guild’s ranking wind mage, is responsible for the current enchantment that keeps the banner billowing even on the stillest of days. But as a result, anyone can look up and see the clear white characters printed across the ink-black fabric. Fly.

It’s been three months since he’s been back. Kageyama had left just before his birthday, in early winter. It wasn’t an occasion that anyone would mark, anyway, and he only noted it because years and numbers are powerful things, with potent and often unpredictable effects on one’s magic. He’s twenty-one, now, and it’s early spring. The world is bright and new and the fields around the guildhall are bursting with white and orange flowers. It’s quaint and idyllic, and before Kageyama can help himself he calls up his wind magic, letting it blow through the flowers until they’re swaying in a comfortable breeze, dancing around him.

Your magic is so… tame. I didn’t expect you to be such a goody two-shoes.
