Sacha Kljestan fills huge hole for New York Red Bulls following transfer

Sacha Kljestan fills huge hole for New York Red Bulls following transfer #RBNY #MLS

The New York Red Bulls have been busy in the last couple of days and yesterday they confirmed that they have acquired US Men’s National Team midfielder Sacha Kljestan from RSC Anderlecht, using the top spot in the MLS allocation order.

New York moved to the top of the allocation rankings on Tuesday following a trade with the Montreal Impact that also saw Ambroise Oyongo and Eric Alexander leave…

USA - (Landon+Timmy+Jose) + (Sacha+Brek) = 2/29/12

According to this article on FIFA’s official website, Donovan will not be on the field against the Italians.  He has bronchitis.  Lame excuse Landon, walk it off.  Fullback Timmy Chandler and midfield cog Jose Francisco Torres will also join Donovan and CDM Jermaine Jones on the list of players not traveling to Genoa.  Donovan could’ve played either on the right wing in a 4-3-3, 4-2-3-1, or 4-4-2.  Dempsey will likely shift over, or Fabian Johnson’s versatility could be tested on the right, with Brek Shea now in the fold to potentially handle duties on the left.  Spector or Johnson could both fill in at LB for Chandler, but it’s unlikely that the third alternative (Bocanegra) will see any time there.  He’ll likely stay in the middle where he belongs.  Here’s to hoping Klinsmann goes with Sacha playing in front of Williams and Bradley, with Dempsey out to one side and Johnson/Shea out on the other wing.  Jozy up top, as usual.

USA went from fielding its most pedigreed lineup to one with significantly less star power, and Donovan and Dempsey still will not have seen the field together under Klinsmann, but who cares, it makes it interesting, which is why we watch anyways.  And after whining about Kljestan’s exclusion, I guess I can’t complain now anyways.

Red Bulls ‘getting annoyed’ despite unbeaten start after Wednesday’s draw #RBNY #MLS

New York Red Bulls remain Major League Soccer’s only unbeaten side this season as they extended their streak to seven to open the campaign in Wednesday night’s 1-1 draw with the Colorado Rapids at Red Bull Arena.

The result means the Red Bulls have now tied back-to-back games 1-1 at home after Sunday’s tie with LA Galaxy, and with just one win in four, players are starting to get frustrated with…

But on Sunday, the Red Bulls went at the Galaxy, forcing the champions onto the back foot for long stretches of the game, and showing the kind of physical and technical dominance in midfield that’s generally been the sole preserve of LA in recent clashes between the two. The trio of Martins, McCarty and Kljestan enjoyed their best game yet as a burgeoning midfield core, and having come back from a goal down, the Red Bulls remain the only unbeaten team in the league after their six games, and having played better overall than in winning against San Jose last time out.
