Inside The CFDA Fashion Incubator
Ever want to peak inside the creative spaces of some of the most promising emerging NYC designers? Dying to know where that Prabal Gurung floral-appliqued-sheer-confection-of-a-closing-look was conceived, I trekked off to the CFDA Fashion Incubator tour – compliments of Kliment Halsband Architects – to glimpse the environs where design inspiration is born into the world. Twelve studios: all clean lines and plain planes of glass, exposed brick, polished concrete and sheetrock. Each cell, a habitat unto itself, bursting with idiosyncrasy and artistic curiosities. Given the close quarters (and abundance of mood boards), one must wonder the dynamics that play out between the talents: egotistical isolationism or cross-pollination of ideas? Hmmmm.
