[EPISODE] 22Romance Under the Moon! Usagi’s First Kiss.

Series: Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon

Kana: 月下のロマンス! うさぎの初キッス
Romaji: Gekka no Romansu! Usagi no Hatsu Kissu

Original Air Date: August 15, 1992

Director: Yuji Endo
Writer: Sukehiro Tomita
Animation Director: Kiyoshi Matsumoto

Plot: In search of the Moon Princess and the Silver Crystal, the Sailor Senshi, Tuxedo Mask, and Nephrite all infiltrate the Diamond Kingdom’s reception.

  • This episode was closely based on the fourth chapter of the manga.
  • Ivanovich Kingdom is a fictional place. The patronymic “Ivanovich” or “Ivanović” means “son of Ivan” in Russian. An English variant of the name “Ivan” is “John.”
  • Usagi would accidentally become inebriated again in episode 108.

  • Kunzite was introduced.
  • Mamoru’s apartment was first shown here.

  • DiC’s English dub (titled “Worth a Princess’s Ransom”):

The editors completely altered the scene where Usagi/Serena fell over the balcony. Instead of falling below with Mamoru/Darien in tow, Serena was lifted back up. The footage of her slipping was actually reversed, and the part where Usagi/Serena went looking for a place to wash the spill on her dress was used to resolve the scene. Yet once on the ground, Serena was suddenly holding the umbrella that she arrived with. In the original version, Luna tossed the umbrella to Usagi as she and Mamoru fell.

[EPISODE] 36. Usagi is Confused! Is Tuxedo Mask Evil?

Series: Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon

Kana: うさぎ混乱! タキシード仮面は悪?
Romaji: Usagi Konran! Takishiido Kamen wa Aku?

Original Air Date: December 12, 1992

Director: Kunihiko Ikuhara
Writer: Sukehiro Tomita
Animation Director: Kiyoshi Matsumoto

Plot: Minako tries to cheer Usagi up by taking her to a salon.

  • The standard animation sequence for Moon Healing Escalation was updated: there was new background music, and the art was slightly altered.
  • As Sailor Mars approached Tuxedo Mask, Sailor Venus was shown with an orange rear bow. That bow should be yellow, though.
  • Mitsuami destroyed the front door of the salon, but it seemed to be unharmed at the end of the episode.

  • Venus Power Make Up and Minako’s Henshin Pen were both seen for the first time.
  • Minako transformed into Sailor Venus for the first time on screen.

[EPISODE] 29. Total Chaos! The Messy Rectangle Relationship.

Series: Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon

Kana: 大混線! グチャグチャ恋の四角関係
Romaji: Daikonsen! Guchagucha Koi no Shikaku Kankei

Original Air Date: October 24, 1992

Director: Harume Kosaka
Writer: Shigeru Yanagawa
Animation Director: Kiyoshi Matsumoto

Plot: Makoto develops a crush on Motoki, whose girlfriend may be leaving to study abroad.

  • Some subliminal frames, containing super deformed caricatures of the Sailor Senshi and Luna, were inserted into comedic scenes throughout the episode.
  • In the scene where she learned that Motoki had a girlfriend, Makoto’s sailor collar was missing the white tips, and she had no hair strands dangling by her ears.
  • Based on the calendar in Motoki’s apartment, this episode’s events took place sometime in September or December of 1992.
  • Sailor Jupiter’s collar occasionally had two separate stripes during the fight with Rikoukeidar and Zoisite. Her collar should have two connected white stripes, though.

  • Reika Nishimura was introduced.
