It was a hurried rush of footsteps towards Harumi’s bedroom
which tore Eisuke away from what was happening. In a bid to try and keep up
with him, I held our daughter in the tightest of hugs as I followed him quickly
through to the little girl’s bedroom. The lights were on, closet doors swung
open and sheets ripped off the bed as Eisuke dropped to all fours to peer
underneath it. Whether it were an act or actual worry, I tried not to think of
any negative possibilities. She’d been scared of the dark before, perhaps it was
just something a little like that which had frightened her.
“Daddy – do you see anything?”, I asked Eisuke with a
concerned tone, brushing hair out of Harumi’s eyes so that she could get a
better look at what was happening. Clutching tighter than believable to the
teddy bear in her grip, Harumi hid her head into the crook of my neck, resting
against my shoulder as soft, hot tears began to dampen my collar.
