I’ve been carefully following the artist and photographer Kirsty Mitchell’s breathtaking Wonderland series over the years, and I’m delighted to see she is self-publishing her own Limited Edition book chronicling her journey. The project has been funded in less than 10 hours via Kickstarter and is one of the fastest funded photobooks of all time.
The fantastical world was created over six and a half years in honour of Kirsty’s mother Maureen who passed away from a brain tumour in 2008, as an escape from reality and a way of coming to terms with her grief. Maureen had been an English teacher and had read her daughter countless fairytales as a child. Kirsty began the project with hair and make-up artist Elbie Van Eeden, and each photograph could take as much as five months of prep work - so I’m really looking forward to seeing behind-the-scenes in the first edition of this spectacular tribute book.
