kings of france

James stood up and approached Amber and Lucius, glaring at Lucius angrily.  “Excuse me? Not only was somebody trying to break into the house, but it was a fucking vampire.  I did what I had t–”

Lucius punched him in the jaw, too quickly for James to block despite all of his training.  “You just made things worse!  Do you have any idea who that is?” he shouted.

“I don’t give a shit if he’s the king of France, he was a threat to my son!”

“He’s not your fucking son!” Lucius snarled, lunging for James again only to be blocked by Amber.

“What the hell has gotten into you?” she demanded.  “I would have done the exact same thing in his shoes, do you want to punch me next?”

Lucius took a step back and dragged a weary hand across his face.  “You don’t understand.  This is bad.  Bad, bad.  Every vampire in his territory–and there are a lot of them–will be after James if they find out what happened.”

“How the fuck would I know that?  It’s not like he handed me a business card before he went for my throat.”
