kings cafe

19 August 2016

At about 8:30am, our plane touched down in England! Mike immediately noted Heathrow’s exceptional signage. Then we walked forever (wow that airport is massive), made it through customs fairly quickly, and made our way to the apartment.  By this point Mike is feeling pretty drained, however I was very awake despite catching about an hour of sleep on the flight. We needed breakfast.

Before she left, our summer intern (I MISS HER) made me a comprehensive list of her favorite coffeeshops in London, organized by station so I would be able to find them easily. One near King’s Cross looked good and not too far, so we left on our first tube adventure and found it pretty easily!

inner monologue: “I’m sleepy af rn”

After hearing our accents the cashier here asked if we were Canadian. Bless her heart.   Mike got BBQ pork on brioche and I got a fried egg and chili avocado on toast with some kale & quinoa. Our first meal in the UK and we accidentally ordered stereotypical Californian food… OOPS. I really liked my meal, both because the food was good but also because I was starving after not eating much on the plane.

And now here are random pictures I took while we explored the city:

The architecture… <3 I just love buildings like this

My dad loves pubs so to torment him I sent him pictures of my favorites as we passed by

At this point we met up with Ryan for dinner, then continued exploring

Pretty towers everywhere!!

We went back to King’s Cross and walked along the huge construction area looking for Noble Espresso, only to realize it was in the middle of the closed off section :’(

But instead we found this cute coffee/wine café called Notes – it had two stories and really comfy seats

Got a flat white, a caramel brownie, and carrot cake. The pastries were kind of dry but it was the end of the day

As we were walking back to the station we realized the weird swing fixture we’d seen in the daytime lights up in a crazy glow-y rainbow at nighttime.  Some guys were faffing about inside when we first walked up, but Ryan and I took turns swinging afterwards like the adults we are.

After that we parted ways with Ryan and headed back to the apartment. Finally at 1 in the morning I was able to get to sleep. 😭😴

I totally agree with you with how suspicious it is for Touka calling her cafe :re. I feel like it's no coincidence that re means king and her cafe is called that. I honestly think Ishida has something big planned for Touka in the story soon. 👀

I know right? I don’t believe it’s a coincidence, and I don’t think :re holds a different meaning for the cafe, that too would be a huge coincidence. I agree with you, I think there’s something very big going on with Touka, but I’m also thinking of Rize. The last thing we know about her is that Yomo had her, if she’s still with him or around the :re people, maybe she had something to do with the name of the cafe?

A revisit to the King of Prism cafe event at Tokyo Skytree in August 2016. This time I got the Kakeru drink because peach soda sounded good and the gratin WITH CELERY of course. (The taste of the celery was very poignant though. I’m pretty sure Shin wouldn’t have liked it ahah.)

For coasters I got Hiro and Taiga??! Amazing. (…I kinda wonder how much that Taiga is worth..)
