“Mrs Brown says that in London everyone is different, and that means anyone can fit in. I think she must be right - because although I don’t look like anyone else, I really do feel at home. I’ll never be like other people, but that’s alright, because I’m a bear. A bear called Paddington.”
Paddington 2 is here! That means twice the fun, twice the antics, twice the heart, and twice the marmalade! Paddington 2 is about Paddington picking up some jobs in order to pay for a special gift for his Aunt Lucy’s 100th birthday, only for the gift to be stolen and it’s up to Paddington and the Browns to catch this thief.
Paddington 2 is back with our favorite family and our favorite bear and this, believe it or not, has been one of my most anticipated sequels for some time. I wasn’t even planning on seeing the first one when it came out until I saw it getting amazing reviews. To my surprise, when I saw it, I absolutely loved it. It was easy to take a look at it and say “Oh great. Yet another one of those live action kid movies that are always horrible.” However, Paddington is anything but. I loved the first so I was so excited to see our favorite bear return to the big screen and I gotta say, Paddington 2 does not disappoint one bit.
Paddington was surprising for many reasons. It had some fantastic actors, it was amazingly directed and it looked like there was an actual adorable bear on the screen. Paddington 2 is even better than the first for all the same reasons but double. First off, the performances and voice performance from Ben Whishaw are all amazing. They’re exactly what this film needs. Ben Whishaw is the perfect voice of Paddington and I don’t think it could’ve been done better by anyone else. The Brown family are all back and are as great as ever. We get to see how they’ve progressed since we last saw them and there were a lot of great scenes with them. There’s some new additions to the cast including Hugh Grant, who plays the villain this time around. I always like seeing Hugh Grant and this was a really fun performance with him. Especially with the amazing Sally Hawkins. There’s also more new characters that added a lot of great humor to this film. If you want to keep it more of a surprise however, I won’t say who all is in Paddington 2 but just know, it’s great and the new additions to this wonderful cast are some of the best things in this film. One character in particular, had me rolling every time he was on the screen. Another thing that makes Paddington so great is the humor. Paddington and especially Paddington 2, are hilarious. Not only is this one of the cutest movies of all time, but it’s also one of the funniest films I’ve seen in some time. Which might be surprising considering that this is technically a kids film. The humor ranges from some absolute ridiculous scenarios to witty lines and everything in between and I can’t get enough of it. It’s also one of the sweetest and most heartfelt films I think I’ve ever seen. It is so heartwarming and is sure to make you say “Aw” and might even shed a tear. I know I shed one… or 1000. Even thinking about how sweet this movie is brings joy to my heart and water to my eyes.
This movie is full of imagination and that imagination is brought to life by the wonderful director that has helmed both films, Paul King. Without the amazing visuals and the wonderful direction, these movies wouldn’t be near as good. The cinematography and the visual effects are what bring this film to life and it’s so special just what they accomplish. That, with King’s wonderful script and direction, this film is one of a kind. King also does a great job and crafting some wonderful sequences that are pure fun and exciting. He also crafts some wonderful shots, quite a lot of them actually, that make a film like this even better than it should be. Paul King also wrote this film and really knows how to have the perfect blend of family fare and fun and entertaining adventure that is sure to make you smile and even sit in anticipation.
Paddington 2 is one of the best times I’ve had at the theater in some time. It’s gorgeous, beautifully directed, absolutely adorable, heartfelt, and just an all out blast. With the heart of family, the pure fun and adventure and all the marmalade you can dream of, Paddington 2 is truly one of a kind. This film had me drowning in my own tears and made my heart feel so full. I highly recommend going to see this when you can and I’m already planning to see it a second time. I hope they make a third because I just can’t get enough of this adorable bear.
