ReibertWeek - Day 1

Hey, I never mean to let go !

All I want and you’re all I ever wanna know,

can’t hide in the attic of a pretty home.

We are young, we have heart

Born in this world as it all falls apart
We are strong, we don’t belong
Born in this world as it all falls apart

I see the children in the rain like the parade before the pain
I see the love, I see the hate, I see this world that we can make
I see the life, I see the sky, give it all to see you fly
Yes, we wave this flag of hatred but you’re the ones who made it

Watch the beauty of all our lies passing right before my eyes
I hear the hate in all your words, all the wars to make us hurt
We get so sick of so sick, we never wanted all this
Medication for the kids with no reason to live

So we march to the drums of the damned as we come!
Watch it burn in the sun, we are numb

As we walk among these shadows, in these streets, this fields of battle
Take it up, we wear the medal, raise your hands with burning candles
Hear us whisper in the dark, in the rain you see the spark
Feel the beating of our hearts, fleeting hope as we depart

All together, walk alone against all we’ve ever known
All we’ve ever really wanted was a place to call our home
But you take all we are, the innocence of our hearts
Made to kneel before the alter as you tear us apart

So we march to the drums of the dammed as we come
Watch it burn in the sun, we are numb

We are young, we have heart
Born in this world as it all falls apart
We are strong, we don’t belong
Born in this world as it all falls apart

Don’t forget that there own village condemn them to be the world’s ennemy. They condemn them to be too heavy, too tall, too strong. They condemn their own children to be tragic.

“My eyes remind me of an ant’s,” I tell him with a laugh.

He looks at me, surprised. “I think your eyes are beautiful.”

I’m taken aback. Nobody’s ever really complimented my eyes before.

“They’re like these half little shining moon things. They say eyes say a lot about a person. When I look into your eyes, I see someone intelligent and graceful. Someone worth getting to know.

"That’s why I first talked to you, you know. Your eyes. I’m not kidding. They’re special. Don’t hate on ant eyes.”

Dear Phi Phi,

I see all of the hate you’re getting and I just want to encourage you not to give up. I completely understand not going to the finale, and honestly I respect that a lot. However, please don’t give up drag. Your style is so unique and needs to be represented. I loved your evolution from season 4 to now; your art is inspirational.

I can only imagine how much it sucks to be inundated with hate from around the world. But please know that you’re one of those people who will be used as an example for kids/adults/everyone bullied throughout their lives. People will motivate each other by saying, “Look at Phi Phi O’hara! She was constantly discouraged, yet she made some of the most beautiful art of our generation. She was completely misunderstood in the public eye, yet drag would not be the same without her influence!”

It definitely isn’t fair, but there’s a reason you were chosen to be the “villain.” I really think it’s because you’re strong enough to serve as an example to people being bullied at every stage in life. You don’t deserve it, not at all, but you can shift your perspective and see that you’re going to be the reason that many people continue with their passions after watching you lead by example.

One of my favorite quotes is from Buddha (allegedly) and states, “Holding onto anger is like drinking poison and expecting the other person to die.” The people spewing hate at you are already damaged in some way; don’t let them bring you down as well.

The first picture I ever posted on Instagram was one of us because it was so lovely to meet you in person when you came to Hofstra last November.

Thank you for existing.
