the signs as empowering women + quotes

i thought i’d make this post in honour of international women’s day! i wish u all a lovely day - i hope u feel empowered, beautiful and inspired; and i hope that those feelings stay with u for the rest of the year.

aries: maya angelou - author, poet, civil rights activist “I love to see a young girl go out and grab life by the lapels. life’s a bitch. you’ve got to go out and kick ass.”

taurus: audrey hepburn - actress, humanitarian, film and fashion icon “the beauty of a woman is not in a facial mole, but true beauty in a woman is reflected in her soul. It is the caring that she lovingly gives, the passion that she knows.”

gemini: angelina jolie - actress, filmmaker, humanitarian “when I was little, like maleficent, I was told that I was different. I felt out of place - too loud, too full of fire, never good at sitting still, never good at fitting in. and then one day I realised something - something that I hope you all realise. different is good.”

cancer: malala yousafzai - activist for female education and the youngest ever nobel prize laureate “we call upon our sisters around the world to be brave - to embrace the strength within themselves and realise their full potential.”

leo: j.k. rowling - novelist, screenwriter, film producer “I think writing about the time in hermione’s life that I write about - growing from childhood into womanhood, literally, I think it brought back to me how very difficult it is. so much is expected of you as you become a woman, and often you are asked to sacrifice parts of you in becoming a girl, I would say. hermione doesn’t.”

virgo: chimamanda ngozi adichie - novelist, non-fiction writer, short story writer “the problem with gender is that it prescribes how we should be rather than recognizing how we are. imagine how much happier we would be, how much freer to be our true individual selves, if we didn’t have the weight of gender expectations.”

libra: eleanor roosevelt - politician, diplomat, activist “the battle for the individual rights of women is one of long standing and none of us should countenance anything which undermines it.”

scorpio: marie curie - physicist, first woman to win a nobel prize “life is not easy for any of us, but what of that? we must have perseverance, and, above all, confidence in ourselves. we must believe that we are gifted for something, and that this thing, at whatever cost, must be attained.”

sagittarius: nicki minaj - rapper, singer, songwriter “I just want women to always feel in control. because we’re capable - we’re so capable.”

capricorn: alice paul - suffragist, feminist, women’s rights activist “there will never be a new world order until women are a part of it.”

aquarius: audre lorde - writer, feminist, civil rights activist “I write for those women who do not speak, for those who do not have a voice because they are so terrified, because we are taught to respect fear more than ourselves. we’ve been taught that silence would save us, but it won’t.”

pisces: rebel wilson - comedian, actress, writer “I think women out there should just be happy with the way they look. they shouldn’t really try to conform to any kind of stereotype. just be happy and hopefully healthy.”

Haru found Bya-kun~

Continued from: [x] @100-whiteorchids

Hm? Well, that’s true that Yamamoto would be nice and humor her for some time, but it wasn’t like he could eat a lot of cake, and it wasn’t like he would be up for eating a lot of it, she’d guess. An athlete did have to worry at least a little bit about his diet after all.

“It’s not the same and he doesn’t enjoy sweets as much as you do.” She huffed. Haru would feel guilty dragging him along to get cakes with her if he wasn’t too sweets. She can’t forget the fact that he often had to go to practice too, so it wasn’t like he was free to go on a cake adventure with her. Of course, that wasn’t to say that Byakuran had all the time in the world either—but he is more likely to make room in his schedule to go on a cake adventure with her at least.

“You say that but Haru hardly thinks this is far.” She argued, glaring at him. Knowing him, she should have expected for him to do or say something that was going to send her into a tizzy with embarrassment. At first she giggled at this comment of taking her with him the next time he chose to disappear until the word ‘eloping’ escaped his mouth, causing her whole face to go red . Sputtering, she pulled her forehead away from him and pushed her hands into his stomach to push herself away from him slightly.

The way he then lazily draped an arm over her shoulder made her panic all the more, pushing herself away from him again and taking a few hasty steps away from him. “Ha-hahi! Bad Bya-kun!” She yelled at him, trying to sound as though she was scolding a naughty puppy.

Raging octopus though, that was a funny image. She’d have to try to run that by him sometime to see how he liked that—probably not much. “Haru wants to get married rather than elope!” She hissed, making the wrong point here, but it was true! Haru has always wanted to get married and be a pretty june bride so eloping was out of the question! “You’re teasing Haru too much-desu!” She complained, stomping her foot against the ground indignantly.

☣ weaponless! the only icons i have of jb in the walking dead is that first sex scene with lori. i should probably consider making more icons from that show instead of me hoarding trash of things i’ll scarcely ever / probably never use. :)

how about "this isn't a stain of red wine, i'm bleeding love" i mean obviously harry accidentally knocked over the wine glass onto the carpet or bedsheets and he thinks this poetic explanation will stop the person he's with from screaming and kicking him out but you know what? still iconic!! i support this clumsy kid with his deep lyrics

d’you know what??? you come to me,,,,, AN OLIVIA BLOG,,, telling me that, in the whole discography of 1D (where lyrics like… the entirety of the song “alive” exist) THE ICONIQUE lyric “this isn’t the stain of a red wine I’m bleeding love” is the worst? I won’t tolerate this slander

Imagine meeting you icon at a fan sign event. Imagine they message u on instagram bc you are cute. Imagine that you have a secret relationship because your icon’s company doesn’t allow dating. Your hubris gets the best of you. You make an instagram account dedicated to you and your icon’s relationship. Your icon gets kicked out of Day6. Your icon cries on their last stage.

Hi Father Angel, I'm kind of in a tough situation. I have been attending a non-denominational church for the past six years, but I'm now looking for something deeper. My family is "Catholic" (not practicing but all baptized) and I'm considering officially joining / re-joining the Church. I pray diligently about what church / denomination I should belong to. Why should I be Catholic and not a non-denom Christian? Thank you and God bless!

This is one question you have to answer for yourself. In discerning this question, I will tell you this:

—Being a Catholic is very difficult and at times is the cause of much suffering for a Christian. Our Church has a 2000 year tradition of faith received from the Apostles and we are not allowed to change it in favor of modern popularity.

—We do not get to vote on who our pastors are. We do not have conventions and vote on our doctrines either, and some of our doctrines are the most unpopular on the planet.

—Our Church does not allow you to “hip hop” around like a bunny rabbit, joining whatever church feels good to you. Once a Catholic, always a Catholic, is the saying.

—Even when you hate the rules, the disciplines, the priest, and other Catholics, you are expected to stay put and be faithful whether you like it or not, whether it feels good or meets your criteria.

—Some of our churches are filled with poor, gritty people who have lots of kids that run around, cry, and make noise. The church carpeting is stained and ugly, the bathrooms are outdated, and the music is atrocious.

—We also have some churches packed with foreigners who refuse to learn proper English, wear tacky clothes, eat spicy food that they sell at the church carnival, and do odd things and yet insist on showing up Sunday after Sunday.

—While there are members of our congregation who are dedicated Republicans, we also have Catholics who are worldly, liberal, Democrats, gays, pro-gun control, anti-death penalty, and insist on doing things which makes the rest of the congregation mad. And the priest refuses to kick them out.

—Catholics love candles, icons, incense, spooky chant, and rituals and ceremonies that pre-date Protestant Christianity and the invention of soap. They insist on remembering dead people and hanging pictures of them in churches and homes.

—Catholics fight incessantly with each other and yet love each other, and have the odd idea that even “those people” who wildly disagree with their beliefs might also be saved.

I personally would find much more comfort in a non-denom. church which is flexible on certain Bible verses, doesn’t worry about Tradition, and  usually has better carpet, bathrooms, and music than in Catholic churches. God bless and take care, Fr. Angel
