The Office - Fun Facts #1

I haven’t actually done one of these since the last blog was deleted, so I figure, why not now? Start fresh!

  • In the original draft of Finale, Michael’s line “It’s like all of my children grew up and married each other […]"  was to be said by Creed.
  • B.J. Novak and John Krasinski have known each other since they were kids; they even played little league together. In fact, B.J. has a picture of their team in his house, but he was sick the day of the photo taking, so John is in a photo in his house that he is absent for.
  • According to a post in Pam’s blog during the show’s eight season, Philip Halpert was born on December 8th, 2011.
  • She is only ever mentioned once, but Meredith also has a daughter named Wendy who she deemed "The Good One” that her husband got custody over in the divorce.
  • Michael’s favorite singers are Billy Joel and Bruce Springsteen.
  • Much like Phyllis, Erin had scoliosis as a child.
  • The building for Dunder Mifflin was completely different than the one portrayed usually. The pilot episode is the only episode where an alternate exterior shot of the original building is shown. Hot Girl has the employees walking out in a different parking lot than what’s normally used. [ADDED: The original exterior of the office building shown in the pilot is actually a real office building in Scranton, PA! (I went to university there and we’d hunt down locations all the time!) - Thank you, alekasotherattic!]
  • Nick Offerman (Parks and Recreation) and Thomas Lennon (Reno! 911) auditioned for the role of Michael Scott.
  • Other than sales, accounting, reception, and regional manager, characters have the following jobs: Creed Bratton - Quality Assurance, Meredith - Supplier Relations, Kelly Kapoor and Ryan Howard - Customer Service, and Toby Flenderson - Human Resources.
  • Confirmed full names of each character: Michael Gary Scott, Dwight Kurt Schrute III, Pamela Morgan Halpert (nee Beesly), James “Jim” Duncan Halpert, Ryan Bailey Howard, Andrew Baines Bernard (born Walter Jr.), Angela Noelle Schrute (nee Martin), Kelly Erin Hannon, Kelly Rajnigandha Kapoor, Hollis “Holly” Partridge Flax and Creed Rowland Bratton. Coincidentally, Creed’s middle name is the only never revealed on the show. In 2011, it was put in a note on the Michael Scott Facebook account and again used in a Scranton Times newsletter about his death prior to the show’s end from the official NBC website.
  • Dunder Mifflin, while a fictional company, is now an actual member of the Scranton Chamber of Commerce.
