Even though we didn't get to see a full on Klaroline scene (with implied endgame) at the end of TVD, in hindsight, I'm ok that Joe didn't appear, whether it was because he was busy, refused or wasn't asked. When Julie described the scene if he appeared, it would honestly just feel out of place in the episode, a bit random whereas this felt more natural, allowing for a build up. Joe has always said how careful they have to be with reopening KC, his 10 second appearance wouldn't fit with the ep.
I agree. I think the letter served the purpose a bit better.
