For this Sunday’s Daily Dose of the Dead we mellow it out with the acoustic song Katie Mae, performed by Pig Pen at the Fillmore East (Late Show) on May 15, 1970.

The song was written by Sam John Hopkins, better known as Lightnin’ Hopkins. The dead played a few other songs by Hopkins including Walkin’ Blues and Mojo Hand.

Both the the early and late shows were with the NRPS and featured acoustic and electric sets. The Late show electric set featured a 14 minute good lovin’, a 20 minute dark star and a 27 minute lovelight.

Enjoy this easy dose of dead!

but she just can’t carry no heavy load.”
