October 2–November 1 Reception: Thursday, October 2, 4:00–6:00 p.m. The LeRoy Neiman Center Gallery, 37 S. Wabash Ave.
What does it mean to make a border visible? What happens when boundaries become inherently elastic and impermanent? Borderlands, a solo exhibition of works by Katie Vota (MFA 2015), presents a series of ghost prints and permeable rubber fringes that piece themselves together into a larger installation. Resonating with ritual and labor, the fringes are created through a technique of weaving discarded rubber tires from bicycles. These invented boundaries transform, reveal, obscure, and restrict depending on the viewer’s position.
