I had some free time last week, so I decided to draw a piece on the bottom of my blank longboard deck. I sanded it down and drew the piece with colored pencils, which turned out better than I thought it would. Here’s the final result with and without the trucks and wheels.
This illustration was part of Light Grey Art Lab’s ‘Cosmos’ show. Each artist was assigned a different constellation and created a piece revisiting the mythology and metaphors of their astral body. These works were then turned into an illuminated exhibition. They also used the art to create a tarot card and oracle deck, with cards for each of the constellations and astral bodies. The decks are available for purchase here.
My constellation was Lepus, the Hare constellation. Lepus is often associated with the myth of Orion. His hunting dogs pursue Lepus across the night sky in an endless chase. Rabbits represent swiftness, agility, and naivety. They were often considered one of the most elusive prey, and therefore were prized hunting quarry for nobles in ancient times.
A new screen print that I’m going to start printing in the next couple days. We had to do a piece with 8 colors so I think I’m going to try using a couple metallic inks, but keep the whole thing pretty sepia toned.
