They are each other’s sword carriers, their secret keepers. Betty is the only one who knows about what happened in that dark alleyway with Kate’s dad; Kate is the only one who knows what happened with Betty in front of that piano. Betty’s feelings for Kate bring her sexuality to the surface, her relationship with Kate leads her to the place where she accepts them. Kate’s friendship with Betty keeps Kate safe in a new life, and allows her to live in love rather than fear. Both of them feel there is something wrong with them, and both of them provide a balm for that pain, even as they’re exposing the wound.
This recap’s brutal honesty is well-deserved for that trainwreck of an ending to one of my favorite shows. That’s gonna go up there with the X-Files finale on my List of All-Time Craptastic Things Ever.
