kansas city municipal stadium

17 September: On this day in 1964, The Beatles performed at the Municipal Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri.

This day was originally supposed to be a day off for The Beatles, but a wealthy promoter, Charles O. Finley, made Brian Epstein an offer (of $100,000), which Brian turned down. Finley persevered and offered $150,000 - ‘a higher figure than an American artist had ever received.’ (The Beatles - A Diary) The Beatles added 'Kansas City/Hey-Hey-Hey-Hey’ to their set for the show, which was again nearly cancelled because of the crowd’s excitement.
